DeAndre Daniels delays decision until Thursday morning

photo contributed photo

DeAndre Daniels, the No. 10-ranked player according to in the class of 2011.

DeAndre Daniels, a 6-foot-8 small forward from IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla., has delayed his decision on a college until Thursday morning.

Daniels, the No. 10 player in the nation according to, will choose between Kansas, Texas and Oregon. Duke also is a factor in his recruitment. national recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer believes that Daniels' choice is Texas, as written on the national recruiting board.

The 180-pound Daniels originally committed to Texas on July 3, 2009. After decommitting in August of 2010, Daniels last January was believed to be KU-bound for second semester of the 2010-11 school year with his IMG teammate, Christian Garrett.

Garrett did join the KU program as a walk-on, however Daniels returned to IMG to complete his senior year.

baldwinjhawk 6 years ago

We still win the big 12 for the 8 th year in a row...even without Daniels.

Jack Wilson 6 years ago

Wow .. and is that why we play the game? Big 12 titles. Boy am I excited.

Philip Garver 6 years ago

The longer this goes, the better it is for newcomers (Oregon).

Dyrk Dugan 6 years ago

Two IMG kids now with the Jayhawks....i would say we're the favorite. we can still circle the bases on this recruiting class....c'mon DeAndre! let's be Jayhawks!

osagefire209 6 years ago

This is starting to sound more like trouble more then anything else, to much like Josh Selby recruiting and in fact Selby was a one in done player, this is KANSAS not KENTUCKY.

nicka 6 years ago

This is 2011...get with the f'n program.

lee3022 6 years ago

No, it is definitely not UK. But a single one and done player with a solid nucleus of veterans is not a bad thing. This way the talent is bumped up while forcing the newby to earn his spot. X was good for us. Josh had too many injury and suspension lost games to find his rhythm. DeAndre will be fine here and a solid contributor. With him we have another shot at a #1 seed (3rd year in a row).

Jonathan Allison 6 years ago

I've never seen Self set the table for a guy like this before.

Coming to Kansas should be a dream come true. You get to play with your buddies at a premier basketball program, where you're almost guaranteed to be a star.

I can't help but believe that KU is the favorite. Hopefully he's just letting Traylor have the spotlight today, before he steals all of the attention in the morning.

Remember that the IMG announcement said that both of these guys would let the coaches know their decisions before they make them public. He probably has already faxed in his LOI and is just waiting to announce it.

ahpersecoachingexperience 6 years ago

I've got the exact same feeling. If this is true (sharing the spotlight) what a team player!

lee3022 6 years ago

The best record in college basketball the past two years. The recruiting is going fine except for negativists and fans of other teams.

The object is not to have the #1 recruiting class. The object is to win games and championships. Seven straight years conference champions and a national title as well. Pretty negative to you? Sweet to me!

Sam Constance 6 years ago

Stunning. Simply amazing ignorance.

How someone can type that Self has struck out in the two years he nabbed the highest-rated recruits in KU basketball history is just mind-boggling.

Xavier ended the year #1 according to Rivals in the 2009 class.

Josh ended the year #1 according to Rivals in the 2010 class.

What a whiffer. But I don't mean Self.

bad_dog 6 years ago

Well, pigball did say Self "stuck" out. Can't disagree with that as lee3022 and marchphogso amply demonstrated...

jayloco 6 years ago

Ahhh...I was looking for the douche on the board. LOOKS LIKE I FOUND HIM!! Thanks Buddy! C'mon son, Self's recruiting since he came to KU has NEVER been a problem. Say what you want about Self, but he is a HE** of a recruiter bro'. Take that stupidity elsewhere.

jayloco 6 years ago

Also, remember that Robinson is a SOPHOMORE. I don't think you are a KU fan, so you probably can not logically look at the twins progression, but no one saw them as having the ability to shoot 3's when they first came in either. Shows you what hard work and dedication can do for your game. T Rob will have that jumper by the time he leaves KU dude.

Clarence Haynes 6 years ago

I only hope that we are not in this last minute predicament in the coming years. Too stressful for all involved.

lionhawkward 6 years ago

I hope we get this kid ,maybe . We need to worry about the team chemistry, Bradley, Bucknell, Northern Iowa, VCU ..... I dont see any of these schools on the radar for the "big"boys.... I remember when we won with 2 or 3 star kids .... Piper , Turg , Barry, Woodberry, RIchard Scott, Magley, Kellogg etc.....

Andy Tweedy 6 years ago

Maybe, but that was in a day long ago when the recruiting services weren't nearly as big business and didn't have the long reach they do now. Who knows what those kids would be rated today. But who is Magley. I only go back to 1986...just curious.

Funhawk 6 years ago

Jayhawk Dave Magley was All-Big 8 in 1982, including academic All-American. Dave was the 1978 Indiana Mr. Basketball. The Indiana Mr. Basketball honor recognizes the top high school basketball player in the state of Indiana. The award is presented annually by The Indianapolis Star. Its a big deal in Indiana. He was good!

Andy Tweedy 6 years ago

Learning is fun! Thanks for getting me squared away on Magley!!!

TommieSmithElbow 6 years ago

We lost to "Bradley, Bucknell, Northern Iowa, VCU" because of "team chemistry"?

So we've also won more games than any other program because of "team chemistry" too, since the timeframes overlap?

Magley was "Mr. Basketball" in Indiana, if memory serves correctly, and while I don't know what the exact star ratings were for Woodberry and Kellogg, they were outstanding high school players. I also love Piper and Barry, but do they win anything if that don't have a 5-star guy named Manning on their team? It's the old line about "we're two players away from a championship - Ruth and Gehrig". Any one or two star player could have played with Manning or Jordan or Magic and won championships. Sometimes, winning has a lot to do with talent. The 1988 and 2008 teams had excellent chemistry, but they also had great talent. (The 1997 team had GREAT talent AND chemistry, and just ran into a super-talented and hot Arizona team.)

At the same time, if your premise was solely that it is fun to watch 2 or 3 star kids succeed, we're in complete agreement!

Andy Tweedy 6 years ago

Well put!!! I was in the same class as Pritchard, Randall, Harris, etc, and that was a good recruiting class. Those names were on the recruiting lists of many a major program!

Mike Bratisax 6 years ago

I'd trade 'won more games than any other program' for a couple more wins in the NCAA. Basically, I agree with you but it seems Self has continued Roy's great regular season but inexplicable early outs in the NCAA. Hope springs eternal..

lee3022 6 years ago

No, Roy's record in the conference was inferior. Conference championships are the first goal each year. One game elimination tournaments never prove anything. Anyone can win that way.

Mike Bratisax 6 years ago

"One game elimination tournaments never prove anything" Congrats on one of the dumbest comments ever lee3022.

Chicago_JHawk 6 years ago

From the beginning of his reopening his recruitment, wasn't the generally accepted impression that he preferred UT, but his father preferred KU? If so, it's like the BMac situation in reverse. Better for him to ultimately go where HE wants to, instead of where family may wish.

irunsowhat 6 years ago

What was the BMac situation?

I know he was recruited pretty heavily by Wyoming, wasn't he?

bad_dog 6 years ago

Ben Maclemore (sp?)-he was from St. Louis and Mizzery wanted him badly. His Mom and family wanted him to go there but he wanted to go to KU. That was the BMac situation, thus this is the reverse-not to be confused with the guy from Wisconsin that claims to have eaten 25,00 Big Macs or Brandon Macallister former running back for KU.

DRsmith 6 years ago

Although KU needs a stud, not sure this guy has it all together. Might be better if he went elsewhere.

Andy Tweedy 6 years ago

I've never seen the Traylor kid play, but he looks like a beast physically from what I can see. Everybody gives so much attention to points, but I just simply cannot imagine this kid will not be a horse on the boards. Whatever the case, it will all work out. If he goes somewhere else, just leaves another scholarship for 2012.

hailtoku 6 years ago

Its times like these where I don't believe the recruit has been to a game and Texas or KU.

I just can't imagine going to a Texas game and then a KU game and saying "Oh yeah, Texas is where I want to be".

selfishhawk 6 years ago

It's statements like this that make me think that people on this board have never left the state. Don't get me wrong: I love KU, Lawrence and treasured my time there. But anybody who has spent more than 15 minutes in Austin knows that the town is an absolute gem and the women are unrivaled anywhere in the country.

ku_foaf 6 years ago

Many people have said the campus culture was similar to KU. And don't forget the weather! Simone who has been living in Fla may not be thrilled about going back to snowy winters.

Michael Pannacciulli 6 years ago

True. We never talk about the females role in choosing schools enough...Austin has a ton going for it. I don't see this kid as a hawk and its the last time I plan to comment on the topic of DD. I'm bored. Rather focus on who we do have now.

nuleafjhawk 6 years ago

Believe me, there is more than enough eye candy in Lawrence to keep everyone but maybe Magic Johnson happy. Lily has threatened to send me back to Germany more than once for looking!

Steve Quatrocky 6 years ago

Maybe you hit upon something. There may be a subplot going on such as a fine young lady in Dallas who doesnt want him to leave the state?

Basketball-wise, would you rather play for Rick Barnes or Bill Self? His Dad says Self! Does TX have a mentor program like D Manning's big man school? His best friend has already enrolled and walked onto the team and now his front court mate, Traylor, is a Hawk.

Does anybody know if he has already qualified academically, or could his high school transfers plus extra coursework at IMG still be under review?

tis4tim 6 years ago

"But anybody who has spent more than 15 minutes in Austin knows that the town is an absolute gem and the women are unrivaled anywhere in the country."

Not to dredge up the number 20,000, but if Kansas University was able to satisfy Wilt Chamberlain's ... um ... "needs" while he was here, then it should have no trouble doing the same for any other recruit for the remainder of recorded time.

Brad Boline 6 years ago

But the hottest women in Austin go after the football players, in Lawrence they go after the basketball players.

Sally Presson 6 years ago

come on DeAndrea--be a Jayhawk!!! We love our players and fight to the end for you!!! Texas is a great school, but KU is the BEST!!! Hope you pick KU. Just don't do the hat trick--that makes you look silly. Be strong and just say "KU"

bhol 6 years ago

I remember things working out well when Darrell Arthur delayed his decision by one day. Let's hope the results are similar this time around.

woodscolt 6 years ago

So far I think we have the kids that wanted to play for KU. Daniels seemed like he would have come here if he could have managed to get financial aid as a student last semester. That was our chance , if it was one at all, and it didn't pan out. I have said all along lacey would stay home and Daniels would go to Texas. Kentucky is second for Daniels. It would have taken an unusual set of circumstances to hedge hedge things towards KU. Hope I'm wrong because we need immediate help up front.

lee3022 6 years ago

Don't believe all you read on the Internet.

woodscolt 6 years ago

believe me, I don't. But you can believe my post. So far I'm batting a 1000. Heres to hoping I am wrong.

AndOne 6 years ago

I'm hoping he has a Darrell Arthur-style dream tonight!

AndOne 6 years ago

On the radio today his coach called him "a guard". He said if he wasn't so tall he would play the 2.

Lin Rahardja 6 years ago

No dream tonight... very simple - if DD wants to win, he will come to KU. KU has strong returning players such as T Taylor (PG), T Robinson (PF), key supporting role players in E Johnson (SG/PG), and Jeff Whitey (C). DD plays a different role than these guys mentioned. If he goes to Texas, who will support him to get the "W"? Texas top contributors are either in the NBA draft or graduated. Texas lost all 4 front-court players. Texas' best player next year will be their bench player in J'Covan Brown?

Come and join KU!!!

Lin Rahardja 6 years ago

DeAndre Daniels shoots like one of the greats KU had (P Pierce), smooth shooting... also penetrates like one. Same position, about the same height... Pierce was a starter for 3 years. DD looks more skilled as a HS player than Pierce was. Let's see...

Mike Bratisax 6 years ago

Really.... Sorry but Pierce knew how to make a decision.

lee3022 6 years ago

Yes and some were errors (remember his knifing?) He learned. Daniels does not need to please us with his timing. He needs to get it right for him.

Mike Bratisax 6 years ago

Pierce was stabbed in High School also? What a coincidence.

Cameron Schienebeck 6 years ago

If he does go to Texas it will be a disappointment, but at the same time there are a lot of great recruits available in the 2012 class. I'd much rather have the extra scholarships available for them.

Jaminrawk 6 years ago

His coach said something on the radio today that I thought seemed interesting, something to the extent of "KU fans have waited a long time, one more day won't kill them." Almost seemed promising. I'm probably reading in though. Hope he has a dream about KU tonight.

Jaminrawk 6 years ago

His coach said something on the radio today that I thought seemed interesting, something to the extent of "KU fans have waited a long time, one more day won't kill them." Almost seemed promising. I'm probably reading in though. Hope he has a dream about KU tonight.

CrodieBroyle 6 years ago

Darrell Arthur had a good dream the night before as well

Laura Hrabak 6 years ago

Hey the video every one keeps posting saying that he has made his decision for Texas is from Dec...he is just delaying to give Traylor a lil love...tommorow he'll be rock chalking it up!

Trey Hohman 6 years ago

Penny Hardaway was also a "whippet". 6'7" 195. I think D. Manning could teach DD some NBA-ready post moves. That is where his game is probably lacking.

AZHawk72 6 years ago

Though I doubt many will agree...

...we probably landed the player we NEEDED the most, now we need to pull off an upset to get the player almost everyone WANTED the most. Our assets seem to be his two former teammates now here and the departure of Morningstar and Little, which, seemingly, has left the wing up for grabs. It sounds like Daniels is a wing who can play shooting guard while McLemore is a shooting guard who can play the wing, which might be the bone of contention.

When Daniels seemed to be headed this way at the mid-year, he must have been given the impression that Hamilton was staying due to another late-season fade. With Hamilton booking with the two freshmen studs, Texas must have crawled to IMG begging for another shot.

If D.D. is, indeed, a potential one-and-done, he has to see the advantage of having Taylor and Johnson setting him up well instead of a very talented freshman. The talented veterans who've been through the wars will make D.D. look better quicker. This, along with a wide-open shot to start at the wing, is why he should sleep well tonight, enjoying the peaceful silence because it's going to get really loud once he steps into the Fieldhouse.

LaJHawk666 6 years ago

Of course, it's way too early to tell, but I don't think DD is any more of a one-and-done than McLemore, whom I think will be here for at least two years. DD needs to bulk up some more.

Robert Brock 6 years ago

The way the Daniels recruitment has gone, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't hold a press conference to announce that he is going to re-classify to the Class of 2012 and will start over.

Brad Boline 6 years ago

Come on DD you want to see a sell out crowd every night you got to come to Kansas, the only sell out you will see at Texas is when KU comes to town.

lee3022 6 years ago

I love the passion among Jawhawk fans. It shows here and it really shows in Allen FIeldhouse. I trust his coach that we can wait one more day. It is a good sign to me that that day has been delayed.

I say the decision in KU.

Mike Bratisax 6 years ago

Coming from someone who believes NCAA titles are meaningless..I'll take that with a grain of salt. This is your quote right 'One game elimination tournaments never prove anything. Anyone can win that way.'? Any other pearls of wisdom?

cobweb 6 years ago

Kids wait until the last minute because they want to see who stays in the draft so they can get playing time. Not Self's fault. Besides, he had a great Tulsa team with guys you never heard of.

Jack Wilson 6 years ago

"Great" Tulsa teams? Tell me one. Great teams win national titles. Was the 2009-10 Missouri team "great" .. i.e. reaching the eliite 8 like Self's best Tulsa team?

Find me a "great" team -- national title team -- in the last decade that wasn't loaded with four and five star recruits.

Tony Bushard 6 years ago

So I'm guessing, since the criteria on which your argument is based deals with talent, you're not talking about great teams in a "team chemistry" sense? For every "great talent" team that wins a national title, there are just as many who lose out in the crap shoot that is the NCAA tournament. Were the 1996-97 Jayhawks not a "great" team? Think of the 2000 Cincinnati team. If Kenyon Martin doesn't get hurt, who knows how their season ends? I think most would argue the 1991 UNLV team was clearly better than everyone they played, but had one bad night against Duke. Most objective Jayhawk fans would probably agree that Oklahoma in 1988 was a "greater" team talent wise, but one exceptionally gifted player and a group of decent role players came together and overcame a team with greater collective talent. Moreover, there are probably even more Jayhawk fans that would cite the 1986 team as the best in our storied history. The point is, great teams win national titles ... sometimes. 2011 is certainly evidence that great teams do not always win the big one. One cannot equate "great teams" with "national title teams" because the latter is objective and the former is subjective.

cobweb 6 years ago

The point I was trying to make is that the game has changed because of the one and done. It's why the Butlers are doing better with guys hanging around for four years and learning how to play as a team instead of trying to do dunks for prospective agents. Give KU some slightly less talented overachievers instead of the Selbys and Henrys and see what we do. Oh, yeah, they also might be real students instead of pretend ones.

Tony Bushard 6 years ago

Thanks cobweb. I was referring to HighEliteMajor's false equivalency.

Jack Wilson 6 years ago

Ok .. how do you judge "great" teams?

With the end of the standard 4 year player in colleges brought a different era.

BHerrrmann: You can "if" this to death. And you state the obvious. An NCAA title is objective, someone's view of greatness is subjective. That's not new info.

Were the Vikings great in the 70s? Or were the Steelers. Were the Bills great in the 90s? Or were the Cowboys, or 49ers?

How about the Celtics back in the day, or UCLA?

Titles define greatness in my book. Anything else waters down the phrase. You define it however you want, all to make the point that Jamari Traylor is worth our recruiting ecstasy.

tis4tim 6 years ago

To win a national title, you must be both great and lucky.

Mike Bratisax 6 years ago

HEM, you have a talent with words.. Don't forget that great Baylor team from a year back. It seems more and more we are satisfied with best regular seasons and conference titles.. They are accomplishments to be proud of and we all remember the fantastic reg. season and conference title in '88. Oh wait..they only won the NCAA title. So disappointing.

JHAWK34TRUTH 6 years ago

Some of you guys sound like trolls...quit blasting the kid before he even make his decision! Just enjoy the ride and quit having your panties in a bunch..patience, that's the name of the game wait before you make any assumptions.

drewsmith84 6 years ago

If you are speaking of Xavier, then he brought us probably the 2nd or 3rd best season by a true freshman in KU basketball history. (Behind Danny Manning, and maybe tied with Brandon Rush)

Steve Gantz 6 years ago

Theutus, Yeah, a little bitter taste left by them. I guess my point was we shouldn't be expecting this kid if he comes to lead us to the promised land. Some people here seem to be thinking he's going to make all the difference next year.

drewsmith84, I'll take your word for it. You must have researched everything to come up with that statement.

Troll_or_AntiTroll 6 years ago

His coach said the "decision" would be this morning. He did not say the "announcement" would be this morning. We should probably have that in a month or two.

Michael Auchard 6 years ago

No, actually this, from, says the exact opposite:

"After it was expected that the 6-foot-8 forward out of Bradenton (IMG) Academies would announce Wednesday for either Texas or Kansas, IMG coach Andy Borman said it will now happen Thursday.

'Going to announce tomorrow a.m.,' Borman said by text."

But is anyone here really surprised?

brooksmd 6 years ago

If you read the latest post on Zagsblog, he says DeAndre's dad likes KU and ultimately the two of them have to be on the same page as both have to sign the letter, so I'm thinking DeAndre wants to go to UT. I like his dad's thinking, but I would rather DeAndre want to come to KU and not because his dad pushed him. However, if it is supposed to be between KU and UT why does Zagoria have a Kensucky image in the posting? Could it be another late phone call from Calisleazy has thrown a monkey wrench into it?

Kevin Heath 6 years ago

With that in mind I guess it makes even more sense that the decision was delayed another day. Now that the signing period is over there will be no letter of intent, therefore he and his dad do not have to sign anything.

Sounds to me like it is a chicken match where kid wants Texas and dad wants Kansas, we will just have to see which one turns the wheel first. It might be a long time before that happens.

Plus, now without the letter of intent he can always change his mind, so, again, whatever he says today is virtually worthless in my opinion. He will be giving nothing more than a verbal commitment.

eddiesuttonschoolofdriving 6 years ago

If he comes to KU, I don't care how he ends up picking KU, even if he just accidentally signs the wrong letter of intent. He wants to advance to the next level and is going to play hard no matter where he goes. Xavier deferred to his brother's wishes by coming to KU, and regardless of what you thought of his game, he was a good teammate. Its not like Daniel's dad wants to send him to Siberia and he wants to go to the French Riviera, he's picking between two great places.

Kevin Heath 6 years ago

Correct me if I'm mistaken here, but I'm fairly certain there will be no signing. There will be no binding commitment of any kind. The signing period has ended, and NCAA rules stipulate a LOI is invalid if signed outside the signing period. At this point all we have to go on is his word when he makes the announcement. I don't think anything is binding until he has attended class at his school of choice at this point.

He can say he is coming to Kansas or going to Texas, but he won't need a release to change his mind...he can just change it as the wind blows until he enrolls and attends class at a University.

johnsont1 6 years ago

I'm out, don't care any more. If he comes here he obviously isn't 100% committed. If he goes to Texas he obviously isn't 100% committed...either the people doing his PR are total idiots.

DeAndre, good luck with your decision. You have the second winningest program in college basketball with a fan base that would love to have you, a team with 5 national championship banners hanging from the rafters, the court named after its first coach who happened to invent the game, a team that just lost three players early and by some projections (whether we all agree or not) may all three be lottery picks in the draft, and you have a team which has won the last 7 conference regular season championships. You have guaranteed playing time on that team. Oh, and you have two of your current teammates and friends who will be on the team. If you are still struggling with your decision I'm concerned you won't qualify because it doesn't take a brain surgeon to see which is the better deal.

RockChalk26 6 years ago

I feel the same way. IF he chooses KU, every mistake he makes on/off the court will be heavily scrutinized. As KU fans we have high standards and by yanking us around for this long does not bode well for his popularity.

I think he decides to go to oregon, figures out they can't compete with the elite and transfers to Texas! Then while at Texas suffers an injury and yet transfers again to Kansas. Plays one season for us then decides for the Nba. That has what this recruiting process has felt for me!

Hank Cross 6 years ago

This is absurd. I'd love for KU to pull the offer just to show that it won't get jerked around like this. As it stands now, the team is good enough to compete for the B12 reg season and tourney titles and can make a run at the S16 from a 4-5 seed. Spend next year building the core and reload for a title run in '12-'13.

BTW this isn't a life changing decision for him. If he's as good as they say, he'll be in the NBA in a year or two anyway and it won't matter if he wore crimson and blue or dirt-colored burnt orange or puke green.

orbiter 6 years ago

"I'd love for KU to pull the offer just to show that it won't get jerked around like this."

--hahahaha. that would be great for recruiting.

Do you wet yourself constantly, or just when the refresh button doesn't give you what you need?

Hank Cross 6 years ago

Looking desperate and weak may work for you, but most people don't respect that type of behaviour.

jhawkd 6 years ago

"As KU fans we have high standards and by yanking us around for this long does not bode well for his popularity."

This cracks me up. Really?? Yanking us around? Nobody knows why it is taking this long. For all we know, he got in a car wreck or had a family emergency. People need to relax and not take EVERYTHING so seriously. Enjoy life people, it doesn't last very long (apparently we only have two more days anyway).

BTW, my guess is that nobody will even care about this day in 6 months.

Jayhawklegacy 6 years ago

Well when you have crazy Hawk fans like most of us are, then this type of thing drives us nuts! I have been checking his status everyday for 6 months. My wife thinks I'm crazy, my friends think I'm crazy, but hey I bleed everything crimson and blue!

He could be having a heart to heart with CS right now that has lasted an hour or two! I hope that isn't the case unless he is telling him how much he can't wait to be here!

I'm out too. And I just became a grumpy old guy that doesn't get today's youth. If you can't understand 16300 fans at every game, the best facilities, and coaching staff in the country then. . .This is the part off college athletics that every coach talks about when they have to describe the part of the job they don't like. Being strung along by a high school kid while aau coaches, agents, and financial advisors operate in the shadows (and don't kid yourself, they work for us too).

So if he comes, great, welcome to the family. If he doesn't, who cares! turner!

I have to give you some points for persistence ahp. A bit frustrating at times, but you are persistent. While for the sake of the program I hope you're wrong about Gill, I'll give you props if he doesn't get it turned around within 2 years.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Daniels? Daniels? Has anyone heard from Daniels?

Just saw on ESPN that Turg snagged Martin's top assistant/recruiter.Dalonte Hill to join him at Maryland. And Oklahoma linebacker Austin Box has died after being found unresponsive in El Reno, OK. No cause given.

Just thought I'd provide some kind of news since nothing seems to be coming out of Florida.

missourijayhawk 6 years ago

How can noone know what this kid is doing. Maybe he doesn't really want to play college basketball!!! Why is it that we cannot get these big time recruit's anymore. We have been missing out on all of our big time targeted guy''s the last couple of year's what's going on. Thought Bill and his staff knew how to recruit...He got better guy's to go to Illinois....

I41R4KU 6 years ago

MO-J...uh...we got top-5 recruits (arguably the top recruit) each of the last two years.

It is indeed amazing that nobody that knows anything hasn't let something "slip" yet. It's clear, at this point, that he's a tight-lipped

One way or the other, I'm just ready to move on. I mean, if I hit "refresh" one more time on the three pages I have open...welllll...I might just throw the computer out the window instead.

missourijayhawk 6 years ago

What top five recruit did we get coming in this year???? And the one we got last year was useless, and because I apparently think bigger pictue than you do, I am talking about three or fours guy's coming in you know like uk and nc and duke do EVERY year!!!!

Sam Constance 6 years ago

Simmer down. Seriously.

I41R4KU said "the last two years". That would be Xavier Henry (finished #1 overall in Rivals' final rankings) and Josh Selby (finished #1 overall in Rivals' final rankings).

I think his point was that it sounds ridiculous to complain about us not getting our "big time" guys when the last two years we've gotten--LITERALLY--the two "biggest time" guys available.

Say what you will about Selby. Personally I think people who call his contribution "worthless" are ignorant of even the most rudimentary basketball knowledge, but there seem to be more and more of those types of KU fans these days. Success (2008 title) apparently brings out all the people who just like to cheer for a winner, and may not have an ounce of basketball IQ.

And while you're talking "bigger picture", Kansas has never gotten the stacked recruiting classes quite like UNC, UK and Duke. We've still managed to be pretty successful in spite of it, however.

William Weissbeck 6 years ago

I really don't think Self got better recruits at U of I. Champaign-Urbana is a hard place to recruit to, even for kids from Chicago. He recruited a different level of recruit and had the luxury of filling in spots with serviceable players from Illinois. There just aren't that many serviceable BB players in Kansas. At KU, he is up every year against the cream of the recruiting schools. It's always Duke, UK, UNC and resurgent west coast schools, not to mention Texas in the local neighborhood. We had Selby. Would have been nice if Harrison Barnes saw some regional loyalty, but maybe for an Ames, Iowa guy, leaving the Big 12 was the best thing if he wasn't going to Iowa State. We just don't have the advantage of having a local stud in the neighborhood every year, like Michigan State or Ohio State. And while I love KU, it is not UNC or Duke, nor is it in the Big East. And I have no idea what Calapari puts in the UK vending machines.

BewareOfThePhogOnTheWater 6 years ago

@missourijayhawk You have apparently been in Mizery too long. Get out now while you still can and are somewhat sane.

We will be just fine with or without DeAndre. I would rather have him, but I'm really over these primadonna one-and-done, media-hype types. Come on, DeAndre, either commit to KU or not, but it is time to move one way or another.

brooksmd 6 years ago

+1...You know I realize it's a big decision, but come-on. KU, HCBS, Big Man Coach DM, Hudy, PT, 7 straight B12 Championships. UT, huh, UT, huh, UT, huh, oh yeah, cute Texas girls in tight jeans and ca-boy boots. And runner-up to KU.

What I'm afraid of is he keeps dragging this out, then comes to KU and doesn't live up to expectations, some fans can be very unforgiving.

missourijayhawk 6 years ago

Well be fine with Jeff Withney in the middle???? Are you insane??? pplus it doesn't matter where you live as long as your heart and loyalties are with the Crimson and Blue, so get over that!!!

Tony Bandle 6 years ago

Let's assume DD is gone.

Front line has Braedon and Jamari on board to give 10 hard fouls to protect TRob and Jeff Point guard is covered by Tyshawn, Elijah and Nadiir. Shooting guard is covered by BenMac, Conner and Christian Swing man is Travis and Justin.

On paper from the 2010-2011 team, that's 1 starter[Tyshawn], 2 first off the bench guys[TRob, Elijah], 1 redshirt[Conner], 2 walk-ons[Justin, Christian], 2 reserves [Jeff, Travis] and 4 frosh[Braedon, Jamari, BenMac, Nadiir]

I'd say this coming season will be very interesting and we won't have to worry about the curse of being a #1 seed.

brooksmd 6 years ago

"I'd say this coming season will be very interesting"....especially with the early part of the schedule we have. But, if there is a coaching staff that can put it together, it's right here at KU.

Ryan Sullivan 6 years ago

I'd obviously like to see Daniels come on board, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for us to have just a nine man rotation for a change. Self always says that he prefers to use 5 guards and 4 bigs. How's this...

Guards: Taylor, Johnson, McLemore, Releford, and Tharpe Bigs: Robinson, Withey, Traylor, and Anderson

Not bad at all. A little heavy on the youth, but a decent mix of experience and youth. 1 senior, 4 juniors, and 4 freshman.

The next couple of classes look seriously loaded, so I'd be ok to stick with this and have more scholarships to give out next year and the following. Big 12 is going to be down a bit this year no matter what, so this lineup still makes us a threat. But again, I wouldn't mind seeing Daniels in the mix for us.

Once again it's prom season and once again we Jayhawk fans sit and wait for some primadonna high school hoopster to accept our invitation to the dance. It's getting really old. It's a trend unlike any other school in the country. These are just the names I recall of the top of my head: Charlie Villinuava, Brandon Rush, the Morris twins, Xavier Henry, Josh Selby, and now three guys in one day.

Someone please explain to coach Self that there's an EARLY signing period designed to avoid this fiasco!

For us to say that Texas fans want DeAndre just as bad as we do, well thats just not true. I guarantee Texas fans havent been watching and refreshing their equivelant like most of us have. I can honestly say that we are watching this sooo closely b/c the fanbase believes we need this kid to compete next year for a Big 12 minus 2 title. UT fans are only refreshing their page to see if Mack Brown killed Austin Box. Too soon?

cobweb 6 years ago

It's nice to be wanted. I'm jealous. Let the kid take his time and get it right. I couldn't find my ass with both hands at his age.

sekjayhawker 6 years ago

i've crunched the starting lineups as has most fans for next year...we need this guy...we need added play our everyone plays style of game, we can only hope for a down conference year, which is likely. Just remember this last year was to be a "rebuilding year" as well. We laugh at that! HCBS, DM and the gang will coach up everyone. TT will know he's the one leading the team, instead of always wondering about who's team it is. TR will be sick inside and dipping out as well. He will find himself on the line a bunch! DD...KU is the place for you! You will find no better experience and lifelong connection in any other program.

It's been a while since I was in class, but as I recall, Friday comes after Thursday, and the headline still says "Daniels delays decision until THURSDAY morning." Well???????

The way i see it, DD could end up being a cancer. If he can't agree with his dad on where to go, tells me he needs to grow up. Stay away if your heart isn't 100% Kansas Jayhawks. I'm done checking for updates on a kid that will end up being another Xavier Henry.

David Leathers 6 years ago

I would take another Xavier Henry before I would another Selby... Just sayin'

Thomas Matlock 6 years ago

  1. I know this has been mentioned, but which Thursday are we talking about?

  2. If he is this messed up on his days of the week- a. How is he going to make it to class? b. How is he going to do in class? c. How (in the world) will he remember the number of the player that he is supposed to be guarding?
