Obama: No. 1 seeds will rule in NCAA Tournament

— March Madness is back at the White House, and President Barack Obama is picking the top seeds to advance to the Final Four.

For the third straight year, Obama has filled out an NCAA Tournament bracket for ESPN. He says Duke, Kansas, Ohio State and Pittsburgh will make the men’s Final Four.

Obama predicts Baylor, UConn, Stanford and Tennessee will advance in the women’s tournament.

The president’s entire brackets, including his choices for national champions, will be revealed on ESPN on today,

The basketball-player-in-chief is 1-1 when it comes to college basketball’s national championship.

He correctly picked North Carolina to win in 2009. Last year, he went with Kansas, but Duke ended up taking home the trophy.

brooksmd 8 years, 8 months ago

With all that's going on in the world that he doesn't have time for, but finds time to play golf, talk about equal pay for women and fill out his bracket. Can't wait for 2012.

Jeremy Wilhelm 8 years, 8 months ago

Were you also complaining when GW was taking more vacation time than any president in the history of our country?

jayhawkdonna 8 years, 8 months ago

Where is the proof of your statement? BO does not appear to be engaged on any foreign policy, just campaigning.

hawk_of_ages 8 years, 8 months ago

Here come the Fox News talking points...

Andrew Dunlap 8 years, 8 months ago

c'mon, this isn't politics. The man lives a balanced life and he's not God. on Jan 20, 2013, he will be taking the oath for his 2nd term

God I HOPE not! This country can't afford another 4 days much less 4 more years!

okjhok 8 years, 8 months ago

Ah yes, the teabaggers must have been practicing hate rhetoric during spelling class. Your people must be so proud...

jayhawkdonna 8 years, 8 months ago

I don't know what the original comment said but your use of teabagger tells me you are on the same level or worse. Grow up and let others express their opinions without being hateful.

okjhok 8 years, 8 months ago

Whoops, meant teaparty...surely you can understand such a simple mistake. But you're right, I'm probably much worse. As far as growing up...I'll work on that while I continue to defend your freedom to spew nonsense over here in Iraq. Isn't there a basketball game soon?

Ty Mar 8 years, 8 months ago

So are you in combat arms? If you are a soldier you should understand and follow the constitution. The tea party fully supports the constitution. I'm a constitutionalist but the "tea party" has better points than democrats or republicans.

okjhok 8 years, 8 months ago

Nope, not a soldier...but the soldiers I do know don't know d!ck about the constitution, so I'm not sure where your comment is coming from. Of course I support the constitution, as I would hope even the teabaggers (whoops, did it again) do. It's the other views that they hold that I disagree with. Anyway, I've wasted enough time with this, and yes, I understand it's of my own doing. Beat BU.

Robert Brock 8 years, 8 months ago

The article is about basketball. Please go away and find a political rock to crawl under.

Matt Bowers 8 years, 8 months ago

Maybe President Obama is trying to play catchup with Bush, who took more days off as president than any previous president...oh' wait, that was different. By the way ZIG, your "douchebag" comment was unacceptable. If you want to go sip tea with the teabaggers, do it somewhere else.

Rock Chalk

Brianna Zaleski 8 years, 8 months ago

Unacceptable to whom? You? I'm so sorry I didn't consort w/ kustrong's rule book before I posted. The article was about Obama so I posted about Obama. I am entitled to my opinion still aren't I? Or are you wanting to tell me what to do w/ my opinion as well as MY money. Socialist. BTW, Bush "vacationed" the majority of his time in Crawford, TX. He took his staff w/ him as well as a press corp. It was basically a western White House, so you really can't compare that to Barry's multiple days off frolicking in the sun somewhere new each time. Bet.

Steve Gantz 8 years, 8 months ago

I'm not a Obama supporter in the least, but I believe your comment was unacceptable as well.

Jeremy Wilhelm 8 years, 8 months ago

Yeah, he was 'mending his fences, and clearing brush' - that's a much more effective use of time. I don't care if you or anyone else hates Obama - that's anyones right. I do think your willingness to hold such a dramatic and obvious double standard is amazing. Obama has actually represented more of an extension of GW than any major shift in direction or 'change'; to wit - multiple extensions of the Patriot Act, escalations of the conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq, hand-outs to corporate America, tax breaks for the wealthy, etc. The only thing that he's done that GW wouldn't have is the healthcare act, and he just took the teeth out of it by essential making it optional at the state level.

grrttweaver 8 years, 8 months ago

Have you perhaps considered that President Bush had two terms and that figure includes 8 years?

Since you like figures, how about this one:

More money was spent during President Obama's 3 years than all the other Presidents combined.

That fact actually says something...

hawk_of_ages 8 years, 8 months ago

I don't believe that to be a "fact" at all, but it's fairly obvious that when you inherit two expensive wars, a massive entitlement regime, and a massive economic crisis you're going to be forced to do a lot of spending while not collecting a lot of revenue. The deficit would have exploded over the last two years regardless of who the president was.

John Boyle 8 years, 8 months ago

His policies of entitlement have made a bad situation worse. I am an independent and this is not what the country needs. Don't assume that everyone that dislikes the direction Obama is taking the country is some FOX zealot. I am a black man who will not be voting for Obama in the next election.

bigjay83 8 years, 8 months ago

And I'm a old white man who will. So, I guess he's even now, huh? Being that elections are measured in race.

Dan Harris 8 years, 8 months ago

your use of the word "teabaggers" is unacceptable, please do it somewhere is else!!!!!!

Viggo3003 8 years, 8 months ago

I hate it when they mix politics and sports in ANY way including the POTUS.

Can we keep the discussion to basketball please? Politics are personal. KU Basketball is FAMILY! FOE (per the Morris twins)!

It would seem so w/ how bad it was mishandled and f-ed up. Like everything else he is involved w/

Martin Rosenblum 8 years, 8 months ago

All politics aside, he DID pick KU last year. If it weren't for a player named Ali, we would have had the chance we neded to fulfill his prophecy. So, once again Obama was in a controversial dilema with his Muslim roots. Poor guy, he just keeps steppin' in it!

One of the reasons I cheer for Duke over UNC is that Coach K once said that Obama should work on the economy and not his brackets. OTOH Roy invited Obama to play a practice game with UNC.

jayhawkdonna 8 years, 8 months ago

Good reason to cheer for Duke- thanks for sharing that info.

hawk_of_ages 8 years, 8 months ago

And Self disagreed with Coach K on that very point, saying that everyone deserves a little recreational time, including the president. Are you actually siding with Coach K over Self?

hawk_of_ages 8 years, 8 months ago

If I didn't know better, I'd almost start to get the feeling that some people will attack the president for... ANYTHING.

I am now announcing an exploratory committee for Dynamite 2012. Or as my slogan will read: Twenny Twen Twen Twelve!

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I am thinking my chances are really good, so I'm putting out a potential list for my running mate and staff:

Running mate: jaybate - because he knows a lot, and I can use the copy and paste method of leadership and secretly play video games and chill while American pours through brilliance.

Press Secretary: kushaw - have you ever seen anyone more plugged and in tune with media?

Chief of Staff: OakvilleJhawk - he's really good at making lists, and lists are important for getting things done.

Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy: Kuwells - mainly b/c I think it would be fun to do drugs with him.

Senior Advisor to the President - 100 - he's really positive and that's nice to have around.

He actually picked UNC to win it and they won. He gave the same logic this year. He is the kiss of death the first time he picks it, the second time it holds up.

bigjay83 8 years, 8 months ago

Total kiss of death! He's only correctly chosen every Superbowl champion since being in office and UNC to win it all in 2009!

God, I hate that guy.

LAJayhawk 8 years, 8 months ago

Kinda funny?? Come on, the President taking a chili-smelling dump on your lawn and telling you to "spread the wealth"? I take no political position here except to say that's the funniest thing I've read in weeks.

shawk13 8 years, 8 months ago

Nope, its on ESPN. He did indeed pick us to win it all.

Go to K-State," brooksmd" teabagger loser, with the rest of the losers.

Brianna Zaleski 8 years, 8 months ago

I sure hope you are not a KU fan, because you make us look bad.
There are just as many losers in Lawrence as there are in Manhattan. So don't make such blanket statements that make you look bad and throw your credibility out the window. However, if you were to toss a blanket statement over Columbia, MO, such as "all Mizzou grads or current students are meth snorting/ dealing, incestuous losers", then you might be on to something. But then again that's where you probably hail from isn't it? Hankdog?

Down with Comrade Obama and his communist tax cuts for the rich and Goldman Sachs bailouts!

Hmm, some cognitive dissonance there.

brooksmd 8 years, 8 months ago

I am not sure about that. You realize he watched the KU-Tex game naked, while eating summer sausage and Ritz crackers? Doesn't seem appropriate for the Oval Orifice.

bigjay83 8 years, 8 months ago

He also might choke on a pretzel. Ifffffff you know what I mean.

BCRavenJHawkfan 8 years, 8 months ago

Well, I'll be damned. What's The Matter with Kansas?

For those that have bothered to pick up and read the Thomas Frank book, these arguements and themes are all too familiar. But hey, some of you have forgotten those social issue stalwarts.

I'm sure Fred Phelps and his group can make ZIG and jayhawkdonna feel right at home with his hate and vitriol. Or how about the guy out in St. Mary's Kansas that has proclaimed himself Pope (Pope Michael I). For those with a more scientific approach there is the group that insists dinosaurs were on Noah's Ark. They were little baby dinosaurs, seriously.

Only in Kansas.............and I was born and raised in Kansas.

And while we're on that socialist agenda let's really define what we hate. I mean after all don't we just hate: +Social Security +Medicare be careful on those two, your parents might be on them or your grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, the list goes on and on. +Homeland Security +The Pentagon +Local Fire and Police Protection +Public Education be careul again, KU is a State school isn't it?

I know, I know, BCRaven only mentions the good socialist things that even rich people get a slice of. What about the others that we really, really hate: +Medicaid +Welfare +Foodstamps +Tax Credits oh wait those aren't just for the low income folk, after all I just did my taxes and for those upper incomes (which I only wish I were) is the opportunity for a tax credit if you purchased a new vehicle worth at least 45k. Come on, a tax credit for buying a Hummer, please.

Warts and all, it's what makes this country great!

bigjay83 8 years, 8 months ago

I once met a guy who gave to government his money. I said, "you're stupid." He said, "No I'm not."

True story.

A C.E.O., a tea party member, and a teacher are sitting around a table with a plate full of a dozen cookies. The C.E.O. reaches out and grabs 11 cookies. He then turns to the Tea Party member and says, "see that guy over there? He wants a part of your cookie."

--"rockingthechalk, you're such a commie."

--"Yeah, I know."

--(pause) "Um, what?? You aren't supposed to agree with that... calling you leftist names is all the power I have... It's supposed to insult you and demean you so that I can feel better about myself! You're ruining my entire existential shell that I have built around me!! How do I feel less important and insignificant if I can't place you in a neat little category for everything that is wrong with the world and our country and have you feel bad about yourself thereby making me forget how unimportant I am in the grand scheme of things before my life extinguishes before my eyes??? How can you do this to me??"

--"Oh, I'm sorry..." (clears throat) "Don't call me that!"

--"Ah, thank you. Phew."

--"No problem. Glad I could help."

Alohahawk 8 years, 8 months ago

Hate the fact that politics has been brought into the NCAA basketball discussion. But, with Obama's pick, and this article being written about that pick, it has.

I always refuse to "argue" politics because everyone has the right (supposedly, in the USA) to believe in what they want, and as long as they vote in the elections, they should be allowed their sayso. I've learned that once a person has made up their mind about a politician, it's nye impossible to change their mind(s). Argueing, while not using a debating format, only leads to animosity and hatred.

Obama's choice of who will win the tourney doesn't effect me one way or the other, kiss of death or otherwise, and it won't (or shouldn't) effect the final outcome of the tournament. (Perhaps a player, who is adamently anti-Obama, on the winning team would refuse to meet the president and shake his hand.)

The Jayhawk Nation would be better served to move on to supporting the Hawks in a positive, not argumentative, way. Just saying.
