Jayhawks unveil soccer schedule

Another challenging schedule awaits the KU soccer team as nine games versus NCAA Tournament participants highlight the 2011 schedule, released Monday by 12th-year head coach Mark Francis.

The season kicks off on Aug. 14 with a 1 p.m. contest versus Horizon League regular-season champion Butler in the first of 10 games scheduled at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex in Lawrence. After hosting the Bulldogs, KU will cap a three-match homestand, hosting SEC schools Tennessee (Aug. 19) and Arkansas (Aug. 21).

I've said this before and I will say it again. Kansas City has some of the best girl's soccer talent in the country and yet they don't get recruited by KU. I guess our soccer coach feels that the grass is always greener outside of Kansas City or he's too lazy to get off his couch and make the 30 minute drive to Johnson County to watch the local MRL and/or ECNL teams square off every weekend. Either way, the KU women's soccer program has really deteriorated the last 3 years. I hope our AD gets a clue and starts making some coaching changes. It would be nice to have some winning programs other than our men's basketball program once in a while.
