What matters is the ranking at the end of the year...

To get there it really is a simple formula...

Each & every game, own the stat sheet Jayhawks.... Make each possession count....

Take pride in crisp passes....

Tough hard nosed D.....

All for one & one for all!!!!!!!!!

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

Hmmm not sure i want the target of being 1 in the country... We have the potential to be that but i don't think we deserve it the way we have been playing lately. We deserve top 5 but we could easily have had a couple losses on this years record.

Who cares about rankings anyway? As long as you take your conference and stay hot in march rankings mean nothing.

Random thoughts here------

1) Duke fell hard from #1, in my opinion. 2) If the NCAA Tourney pairings came out today, there would be some really tough #2 seeds in the Big Dance. It seems more glaring this year because of the parity in the Nation. 3) After today's game, K-State probably will not be ranked---the Drill Sargent/Geigo commercial comes to mind right away.

Go Jayhawks---hope this #2 ranking isn't a curse for tonight!

KState ranked ahead of Colorado in both polls, what a bunch of bullsh&*

TenaciousD 9 years, 1 month ago

Agreed. Guess Colorado will just have to thump them in Boulder too.

Keegan.....why do you make two articles out of this?

Why don't you just have the new poll & how you voted in the same article?

It seems like your duplicating work and not being as productive for as you should be.

You're Fired!!!!

(j/k....kind of)

For anyone who may have an interest:

Cormac Gordon of the Staten Island Advance in New York voted us 6th behind three 1-loss teams -- Duke (3), Pittsburgh (4), and Villanova (5th) respectively.... hmm, all East Coast schools. Interesting.

Dick Weiss of the NY Daily News also voted us 5th behind Duke and Pitt. He was one of the 8 votes for Syracuse at #1, btw (Keegan, of course, being another). Not much love from New York.

On the other hand -- as pnl14 pointed out on the other post -- Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herold in KY was one of our 6 first place votes. (Alabama, 2 of the 3 NC reporters, Tennessee, and Seth Davis are the other 5).

Polls don't mean much, but it's interesting to see how AP voters look at KU.

When you say 2 of the 3 NC reporters, I assume you are speaking of North Carolina. If so, such voting doesn't surprise me. A few weeks ago when I was perusing one of the Duke message boards, most of their fans seemed extremely knowledgeable and had many great observations. What led me to the forum was someone on kusports being ticked off about some of their opinions of Bill Self as a coach. However, I came away quite impressed. The ones who were critical of Self made coherent and pretty convincing arguments (they weren't simply bashing him), and there were others who gave him and the Jayhawks a lot of praise. They reminded me of most of the great bloggers on this site whom, although they may dislike Duke, still acknowledge the fact that it is a great program and Coach K is a tremendous coach. If you think otherwise, you're being irrational and a hater.

Anyway, thanks for posting the way some of the writers around the country voted. Very interesting indeed.

Yes, I did mean North Carolina. Steve Wiseman of The Herald-Sun and Bob Sutton of the Times-News, to be specific.

I remember that posting on here that you speak of (re: Duke message boards), and I also went on to check them out. I didn't read a ton of it as I didn't have that much time, but I came away rather impressed as well. Informed fan base. A bit of an over-inflated view of Coach K (he deserves a lot, but the guy is not God... I don't think), but that is to be expected on any school message board. Certainly we have that around here (with basketball, I mean... the Gill haters are another story). It was interesting to see their point of view with regards to Self. Informed outside opinions that gave something to think about.

I guess maybe Pitt should be up on Syracuse don't ya think? And if we are overrated where might Baylor be now?

Jeff Coffman 9 years, 1 month ago

I know people say there isn't an East Coast Bias, but when you are voting 3 one loss teams ahead of a top-notch basketball program that is undefeated, there is some bias. Like I said in another post, I can see 1-3 being in any order, but having Duke, Pitt, and/or Nova ahead of KU all three of which have lost to unranked teams now, to me is not good reporting. Undefeated is undefeated in a big conference. And if I'm not mistaken we would have already captured the PAC-10 conference.

DCLawHawk 9 years, 1 month ago

I don't know about East Coast bias, but there is an East Coast Bilas who usually gives KU a fair shake.

NJHAWK 9 years, 1 month ago

Big East is the most overrated conference. Nova is not a top-10 team.

Larry Smith 9 years, 1 month ago

It is an interesting dynamic here. On one hand, you have a good majority of posters saying how we don't desreve to be ranked so high, we play down to competition, we are overrated, we are lazy and unmotivated, etc.. On the other hand, there are posters who claim east coast bias because an east coast writer didn't rank us as high as other quality teams.

bocktar 9 years, 1 month ago

Anyone who claims there is no east coast bias has it. We are probably ranked too high, but if we pull through tonight I'll no longer think so. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
