KU vs. Howard

Kansas defeated Howard, 89-34, on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Howard University’s 34 points scored were the fewest by a Kansas University opponent since Alcorn State totaled 31 in KU’s 98-31 win on Dec. 2, 2009, in Allen Fieldhouse.

It marked the third-fewest points allowed in the Bill Self era. Dartmouth scored 32 points in a 83-32 loss to KU on Nov. 28, 2006, in Allen.

Kansas held Howard to 13 points in the first half. It was the second-straight game that KU has held its opponent to 13 points in the first half, the other at USC. It marked the first time the Jayhawks have held back-to-back opponents under 20 points in a half since the 2007 season (Washburn, 18; Northern Arizona, 10).

The 81 points allowed by KU over the last two games mark the fewest in a two-game stretch since before the 1988-89 season.

Howard’s 22.2 percent shooting (12 of 54 overall, 3 of 18 from three) was lowest by a KU opponent since Dayton shot the same percentage in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

Howard’s 12 total field goals were fewest by a KU opponent since Alcorn State had 12 in a game on Dec. 2, 2009. Howard also set a season-low by a KU opponent in free throws (seven) and three-point field-goal percentage (16.7).

I suppose it's nice that TV stars and other celebrities show up, but I'd rather that a few uncommitted recruits were in attendance.

And yes, thanks Mr. Frankamp, for committing early and for attending. Bring a few possible BBall recruits along with you next time.

Frankamp drove to the game from his home in Wichita. I seriously doubt he had time to swing through Texas and pick up Randle.

Uh Oh!...........Trouble in Fizouri?

" Missouri denies allegation of Khem Birch tampering

Staff report

Sporting News

Missouri coach Frank Haith emphatically denied a CBS Sports report Thursday that Pitt had declined to release former Panthers center Khem Birch to possibly attend Missouri because of suspected tampering.

“We haven’t asked for a release,” Haith told Sporting News. “We haven’t done anything with the kid.”

Khem Birch played just 10 games for Pitt. (AP Photo)CBS reporter Jeff Goodman wrote Thursday on Twitter -- but not in his story on CBS' website about Birch's future -- his sources told him that said Missouri was the only school Pitt denied a release for Birch to attend.

Haith, however, said Missouri had made no contact with Birch and had done nothing in regards to Birch that would warrant a tampering allegation.

A 6-9, 220-pound import from Montreal who made McDonald’s All-American as a high school senior, Birch announced in mid-December he would leave Pitt after playing in only 10 games. Birch said Thursday that he had narrowed his list of possible transfer destinations to six and hopes to start visiting those schools soon.

Birch, the highest-ranked recruit ever signed by Pitt coach Jamie Dixon, told CBS that he will transfer to Florida, UNLV, Gonzaga, Washington, Xavier or New Mexico State.

Birch said he didn't leave Pitt in a rush to the NBA or over any sort of personality dispute with Dixon. Instead, it was simply about his role. Dixon wanted Birch to play in the post, and Birch preferred to work on his perimeter skills.

"I want to play more (power forward)," Birch told CBS. "That's one of the main reasons I went to Pittsburgh in the first place. I know I don't have the four-man skills yet, but I want to develop them."

Birch averaged 4.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks for Pitt but showed flashes of being a dominant force. In his first start, he had 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks against Penn. In his second, he had eight points, 11 rebounds and six blocks against Robert Morris. However, those were the only two games in which he played more than 17 minutes.

"Coach Dixon is a great coach and a terrific person," Birch said. "I just didn't think it was the best place for me.” "

I hope Mizzou remains undefeated until Feb 4th so KU can go into the Walmart Dome and destroy their perfect season.
