KU chancellor meets with staff about AD

Kansas University Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little met with KU athletic department staff members Thursday morning about the upcoming search for a new athletic director.

Gray-Little told 150 coaches and administrators in Hadl Auditorium that she has heard from numerous individuals from many different entities regarding the position.

“I haven’t heard from the Vatican or the White House,” she joked, “at least not yet.”

Gray-Little said she hopes to name a search committee of five or six individuals by the end of next week. She said she would like to have KU’s new AD in place by mid-spring semester or sooner.

“We want to capitalize on all the great things that athletics has achieved over the past seven years,” she said.

She said she will talk to student-athletes and KU athletics staff during the process, and welcomes comments from staff members.

Please keep the process public, 'cause in the end we all suffer with this decision, but I applaud Gray-Little doing what she is supposed to in the unwritten laws of trying to keep KU a university and not a runaway athletic corporation.

GardenJay, there will probably be a lot of candidates that we won't hear about because they will already be employed by DI top schools and don't wish to have their names publicly brought out. Unfortunately, if it were a democracy of alumni voting for the new AD, somebody unqualified with a big name would be voted as our AD. The committee knows how to pick somebody qualified. Fans don't.

Makes sense. In any case, have enjoyed the visible portion of this process, it feels fresh.

The Chancellor made a great move for the allover health of the University.

So a good athletic department needs donations from rich alumni? How are you doing that without a strong academic university? Not to mention KUAD is an embarrassment that needs house-cleaning, now headed up by a Lew hire a week before he was fired.

"a big time athletic program is a hamper to Ku's functioning"

...depends on whether the dog wags the tail, or the tail wags the dog.

Sounds like you should have gone to Williams or MIT. Or maybe you just couldn't have been admitted.

Good thing Lew isn't in on this search, he would want the AD from Buffalo!!!! LMAO

Let's hope she doesn't go to Obama, we'll be in debt in no time without any revenue.

Clearly Obama is over is head and she has clearly said she is over her head with making a hiring of this type. She has said several times she has never done this and needs help. Maybe we should have replaced her before we hire an AD.

Let's admit it the people that didn't like Perkins were the people without big pockets. The people that liked Perkins were the ones donating. Based on the amounts he collected, we clearly can see that he got more people donating.

For the sake of fairness, the national debt has grown under every Republican presidency since Nixon. Tripled under Reagan, even.

Taking the nation into debt is an American pastime, not a specifically Democrat or Republican thing.

jhawkrulz, for the record Obama inherited a debt built over eight years of a completely irresponsible administration.

why in the hell do some of you a** clowns try to spoil this site w/ inane political missives? this is our one place of refuge! back to all things KU sports please

bad_dog 11 years, 1 month ago

I hear you eddie. I could really give a $hti about anyone's political opinion on this website. It is completely irrelevant to the topic. If you want to whine about Obama or Bush or any other politicians, there are plenty of articles/editorials on the ljworld where one can direct their vitriol.

Now, back to the Hawks...

oh yeah, maybe you all want an Alden of mizzou type........this guy was used like a sheet of toilet paper by Lew during our Orange Bowl selection....Lew was the perfect hire for us at the time.....Power tends to corrupt but to say Lew was corrupt is in my book a bit too harsh....He is just what most CEO's are.. I don't want to see Kansas University as a pushover by other AD's or conferences and with Lew at the helm, that didn't happen.

Most that complain here either had their prized seats taken away because they didn't want to pony up the extra funds to keep them or felt slighted by Lew and/or the athletic department. There were some rogue employees that stole tickets/money and it was under Lew's watch but it's not like he approved the theft.

"clearly Obama is in over his head?" You neo-cons crack me up. First, your statement is ridiculous and to say that the chancellor is on over head as well is doubly ridiculous. Both are doing a fine job and the Chancellor was only joking when she mentioned the President. Obviously you didn't get it which makes me think that you are the one who is challenged!

Throw in the UNI debacle, and I agree.

What the Hell happened?

steamboat 11 years, 1 month ago

About the UNI debacle??? 1 and done Bill is what happened!! You remember him, the same guy we had coaching when Bucknell and Bradley took us down. He won't never change his coaching style to fit the opponents style of play. To quote "full court pressure isn't Kansas BB" unquote!!! But we still got our asses kicked. So we win the Big 12??? Wow that means we're better than 11 other teams. And the 30 games we win?Half are against cupcakes. The same cupcakes that take us down in March.

Can we focus on athletics and leave the politics behind? Don't you get enough of it listening to all of the Blunt-Carnahan tv ads every day.

Mark Lindrud 11 years, 1 month ago

Maybe instead of bickering the next post should be who would be a good candidate for the next AD? Not that we are experts, but it is fun to speculate since we as fans do that a lot. Any thoughts?
