KU chancellor meets with staff about AD

Kansas University Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little met with KU athletic department staff members Thursday morning about the upcoming search for a new athletic director.

Gray-Little told 150 coaches and administrators in Hadl Auditorium that she has heard from numerous individuals from many different entities regarding the position.

“I haven’t heard from the Vatican or the White House,” she joked, “at least not yet.”

Gray-Little said she hopes to name a search committee of five or six individuals by the end of next week. She said she would like to have KU’s new AD in place by mid-spring semester or sooner.

“We want to capitalize on all the great things that athletics has achieved over the past seven years,” she said.

She said she will talk to student-athletes and KU athletics staff during the process, and welcomes comments from staff members.

Maybe instead of bickering the next post should be who would be a good candidate for the next AD? Not that we are experts, but it is fun to speculate since we as fans do that a lot. Any thoughts?

Can we focus on athletics and leave the politics behind? Don't you get enough of it listening to all of the Blunt-Carnahan tv ads every day.

2 years ago, we had just won a BCS Bowl and had the National Coach of the Year coaching out football program.

Oh yeah, we had just won a basketball national title.

Fast forward 2 years to Sept. 2010.

Our football team is on an 8 game losing streak (likely going to be 9.)

We have a football coach with a career losing record running our program, and just lost to a 1-AA program at home.

Our school has no Athletic Director.

How did things get to screwed up so fast?

"clearly Obama is in over his head?" You neo-cons crack me up. First, your statement is ridiculous and to say that the chancellor is on over head as well is doubly ridiculous. Both are doing a fine job and the Chancellor was only joking when she mentioned the President. Obviously you didn't get it which makes me think that you are the one who is challenged!

oh yeah, maybe you all want an Alden of mizzou type........this guy was used like a sheet of toilet paper by Lew during our Orange Bowl selection....Lew was the perfect hire for us at the time.....Power tends to corrupt but to say Lew was corrupt is in my book a bit too harsh....He is just what most CEO's are.. I don't want to see Kansas University as a pushover by other AD's or conferences and with Lew at the helm, that didn't happen.

Most that complain here either had their prized seats taken away because they didn't want to pony up the extra funds to keep them or felt slighted by Lew and/or the athletic department. There were some rogue employees that stole tickets/money and it was under Lew's watch but it's not like he approved the theft.

I hear you eddie. I could really give a $hti about anyone's political opinion on this website. It is completely irrelevant to the topic. If you want to whine about Obama or Bush or any other politicians, there are plenty of articles/editorials on the ljworld where one can direct their vitriol.

Now, back to the Hawks...

Let's hope she doesn't go to Obama, we'll be in debt in no time without any revenue.

Clearly Obama is over is head and she has clearly said she is over her head with making a hiring of this type. She has said several times she has never done this and needs help. Maybe we should have replaced her before we hire an AD.

Let's admit it the people that didn't like Perkins were the people without big pockets. The people that liked Perkins were the ones donating. Based on the amounts he collected, we clearly can see that he got more people donating.

"a big time athletic program is a hamper to Ku's functioning"

...depends on whether the dog wags the tail, or the tail wags the dog.

gardenjay,,i don't think a very good athletic program will interfere with the operation of KU..After all,,the athletics bulk dollars comes from donations,so i don't understand your comment. I perceive that you think a big time athletic program is a hamper to Ku's functioning.Which it isn't.

The Chancellor made a great move for the allover health of the University.

Please keep the process public, 'cause in the end we all suffer with this decision, but I applaud Gray-Little doing what she is supposed to in the unwritten laws of trying to keep KU a university and not a runaway athletic corporation.
