Damn, I planned my whole weekend around watching those two powerhouses clash. Sadly, ISU has the better team these days.

DocBean 9 years, 4 months ago

Now if we can only convince ESPN, and every other sporting news program to not run KU football scores across the scroll-board then we might have a chance convincing recruits we're not that bad!!!

Andrew Moore 9 years, 4 months ago

yep, we really suck. Its easier to lose as a fanbase when we don't care. Its easier to handle losing to good teams. But when you suck so bad that Baylor and KSU blow you 114-14, you really really suck. This is epicly bad.

I just don't understand how we beat Georgia Tech.

Thats looking more and more amazing every week, despite the fact the GT hasn't played very well this year.

jayhawkjoe98 9 years, 4 months ago

I didn't even know football was still being played.

Hmm. Interesting.

jcsmith 9 years, 4 months ago

Football season is still going.

Football being played, now thats a different story.

vmwskywalk 9 years, 4 months ago

Hey, that's halloween weekend. Maybe we can dress up as another football team and fool someone.

Tom Wilson 9 years, 4 months ago

Sorry I will miss watching that 52-3 game. Do you think they will at least show a replay of KU's field goal in the 4th quarter?

tpatt 9 years, 4 months ago

Do you really think that we will actually score?

nottheman05 9 years, 4 months ago

I will be the Guy at the Colorado game with a Paper Bag on my head with " 2 Steps Back" I feel that is what this team is doing, taking steps in the wrong direction!

Tony Bandle 9 years, 4 months ago

The Geneva Convention rules on human rights will not allow this cruel torture to be imposed on anyone in the nation unless they choose to go in person.

This reminds me of an ancient conundrum....if a Jayhawk or a Cyclone scores a touchdown, is it really a score if no one sees it?

Maybe we could jazz this game up a little. Have each offense take turns running plays with no defense against them and see how many times they score. For that game my prediction would be, Iowa State 2, Kansas 0. :)

Posted for sheer fun and no malice.

{Call me crazy but I think we're going to win!!}

LAJayhawk 9 years, 4 months ago

Seriously, though, I was kinda bummed when I saw this article, because I thought this might actually be the one game we're able to win the rest of the way out.

Of course, I watched almost every snap of the last two games, so, perhaps, there is a God that no longer wishes me to be a masochist....

LAJayhawk 9 years, 4 months ago

Wait... does that make this game "the revolution"??

Ashwin Rao 9 years, 4 months ago

Following the logic: "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" you can say... "If you lose a game and no one is around to see it, did you lose the game?"

Dyrk Dugan 9 years, 4 months ago

we've beaten ISU five times in a row.....i don't think we'll make it six...and thank goodness we won't be able to witness it. with that being Halloween weekend, it could get scary in Ames.

Jeff Worthington 9 years, 4 months ago

For all the people out there making comments like "I'm just glad its basketball season," and "I didn't know we still had a football team." You are exactly what is wrong with the KU fan base. I love our sports teams, but I can't stand our fans.

Ashwin Rao 9 years, 4 months ago

jhawkjdub, just take it easy! Everyone is just having fun. I am sure everyone is feeling terrible about our situation and hope that things were better... I don't question anyone's commitment towards the school/program at this point... the only thing you can do now is have a laugh and hope things improve!

LAJayhawk 9 years, 4 months ago

Dude, we've lost 114 to 14 the last two games against two very average at best Big 12 teams. I think it's ok to make a few jokes. Lighten up. We all still support our team.

ahpersecoachingexperience 9 years, 4 months ago

they should play it with yakety sax in the background

Ben Kliewer 9 years, 4 months ago

How about we get somebody besides Gill or Mangino? Like, somebody good.

Jack Wilson 9 years, 4 months ago

Hate to break the news, but Mangino was good. Bowl appearances, a BCS bowl. What more do you want? That's our peak, my friend.

Ted Adams 9 years, 4 months ago

IF (big IF) KU decides to dump Gill after this season, I would vote for the self proclaimed pirate of college football, Mike Leach! ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH! We may lose but we're going to score 50 doing it. LOL.

jman18562 9 years, 4 months ago

The coming years aren't going to get any better. What kind of kid wants to attend a D1 school to play football.... but not be aloud to have a cell phone or a girl? Thats 75% of college! Never thought I'd say it... But I would rather go to K-State. (On the bright side there is no chance of losing recruits to Missouri. They are lucky to even pick up a phone signal and there isn't a girl for miles worth looking at...)

OCJHAWK 9 years, 4 months ago

75%of the good schools already do it including no Twitter accounts including TTin BB thank goodness for our sanity.

gorilla10 9 years, 4 months ago

Great!!!!!! Not only do we have a horrible team, we also have horrible fans. You people are all a bunch of babies. Stand by the program in the tough times. Its easy to love KU football when they are winning but now that we are facing a whole lot of adversity, our fan base is gone for football. It makes me sick to hear some of the comments on here. Fans like this are no good for the program! Yeah, we are a bball school but we will always have bball. Support the athletic program and quit complaining about the jayhawks. Its annoying to us fans that care...........

kranny 9 years, 4 months ago

What he said! A lot of folks have some pretty short memories. We lost a lot of good kids from last year's team that lost the last 7 games of the friggin' season-what do you expect, North contenders!? Hello, we have no speed, no size, and no talent. Give it 2 years and we believers will be saying "Bon Appetite" to you non believers before your meal of crow while wiping the proverbial egg from your faces.

Michael Leiker 9 years, 4 months ago

This attitude is what is wrong with KU fans and why Kansas needs a strong willed, tough demeanored coach for it's football team. The majority of the fan and alumni of KU are too content to hit The Wheel or The Hawk, drink their sorrows away and not say a word about football all night. You just can't do it at KU with a humble, overtly Christian, mild mannered guy on the sidelines. There are not enough people out there willing to be pissed off and not accept mediocrity. I have to admit I have some of it in me. I'm considering still making the trip to ISU (more for Halloween in South Campus than the game) and will probably be down high fiving and praising the players as they come out of the locker room like I have the last 4 times. I hit the Cave immediately after the game and thought not one thought about football the rest of the night. It just doesn't work. We have a naturally apathetic fan base and this coach is the wrong fit for it. Where are the people behind the bench reminding the players who are turning around looking into the stands that their ticket says $90 on it? Why in the name of Whom you can't use on the KU practice field would one KU fan be in that stadium after halftime? Be Pissed Off!!! And don't be such a freaking hippie that you don't think it's ok to be pissed off after the last 6 games!!

OCJHAWK 9 years, 4 months ago

How long have you been a KU fan? Not long is my guess. We don't have 10 years before the next conference alingment.

I flew over 3K to the Obowl cause I worried this acceptance of cellar dwelling might set in again.

Actually I was pumped that KU actually was relavent and I had run into a TV producer in LA that doubted KU would travel as a fan base. I guess Mu (VT) wished that was the case.

I refuse to accept the crap that our "team " produces lately.

I buy into the the past GE model of Up or out when backed with the resources provided.

hawkop 9 years, 4 months ago

I'd have to say gorilla10's post is about at dumb as they get. How about this, before you get a say in the deal, you put some money on the table (ie have something other than a $10 scalped gameday involved). Either buy season tickets, or better yet, be a Williams Fund donor.

Until then, shut your mouth regarding the "how to be a true fan" talk.

GoodGrief 9 years, 4 months ago

Hawkop: Did I miss something here, or is it true that you have absolutely NO CLUE whether gorilla10 is a season ticket holder or not?! For all we know, he/she could be one of the most generous donors to the Williams Fund.

Problem is that you, hawkop, are too busy trashing Jayhawk fans that actually care about our school's athletic programs. Has this season been tough to watch? At times. Will we probably lose some more games by a comical amount of points? Probably. But does that mean that everyone should just sit around whining on message boards and talk about how much they'd love to fire Coach Gill (even though he's only been in Lawrence for half a season)?? Heck no! The sign of a true fan is sticking by their team when the chips are down. It sure makes the good times (Orange Bowl, National Championship, etc) that much sweeter.

I would like to thank gorilla10 for his/her comments, and find it sad that other people would criticize them over an unknown amount of money donated to the Athletic Department.

shelleysue 9 years, 4 months ago

We care. However we have a hard time feeling good about a program who hired a 500k coach with a losing record and gave him 2 million. Who then put an apparently experienced staff that he touted highly who get out coached every game. Suffered two of the worst losses in history and now have a team full of players hanging their heads in disappointment and can't even experience the pride of wearing their name on their jersey. We paid damn good money for game tickets, have all the expense of attending the games and drive five hours to attend games that are NO fun at all. We have every right to be upset. BTW Baylor tickets are a fourth the price for example.

KU_FanSince75 9 years, 4 months ago

@ gorilla10----Although I try to respect each individual's point of view most of the time, unfortunately, you are probably in the minority here.

Game #1---VS North Dakota State---bitter defeat but I listened to former KU coach Don Fambrough and he said, "the football team needs lots of love." I said, "OK, I will be patient and do as Fambrough says."

Game #2---VS Georgia Tech----unbelievable win against a ranked team at the time, or was it? Maybe Georgia Tech was overrated.

Game #3---@ Southern Miss.----KU gets exposed on the road for the first time---although I was upset with the loss, I got over it quickly because it was a young KU team against a very speedy So. Miss. team. Looking forward to the next game.

Game #4---VS New Mexico State---We were suppose to win and we did. Let's face it though, NMSU was not a very good team.

Game #5---@ Baylor----big concern facing RG III----boy, I was right on! He killed us---period! Defense was genuinely a swish cheese defense.

Game #6---VS K-State----coming off a bye week, optimism is sky high for the Jayhawks---it's a televised game on a Thursday night and we can handle the wild kitties, right? NOT! Got smoked by the Cats---very humbling!

I believe that Coach Gill can turn this thing around, maybe not this year, but maybe next year. Maybe. Get beat 59-7 every week, there will not be very many in Memorial Stadium. My focus now is on Bill Self's 2010-11 basketball team. Yea, if the football Jayhawks somehow get motivated and win some games this season, then, I will be happy for them. I will always cheer on the Jayhawks, win, lose or draw. My frustration though, is that the KU football team is not only losing games but they look like they are not very interested in being on the football field. All I am asking is to compete! There is still one huge game left in my book (although, every game left is important). It is the Missouri game in KCMO. We get beat 59-7 in Arrowhead, well, one can only imagine. Pretty safe to say Coach Gill will not be employed by KU for very long. He will definitely be on the "hot seat" next season if the Tiggers put the hammer down on us. RCJH.

OCJHAWK 9 years, 4 months ago

Although you want to compete you are comforted that BB season is here. That is KU's problem period. We are a BB school in a footaball world.

I love KU BB and travel around the country to watch, but you have to be blind not to know FB has to be at least competitive. ( See Okie light) to be relative in a public school environment. (see wac or mac).

Ashwin Rao 9 years, 4 months ago

I am not a fortune teller so I don't know how the coach will "turn around" the program in 'x' amount of years, but as I indicated in another post: http://www2.kusports.com/weblogs/tale-tait/2010/oct/18/monday-rewind-k-state/#c1395904, I do believe that the coach needs to better learn to manage the fan base fast to ensure that we do have some fans left over, if and (hopefully) when he gets the turnaround. Fans have expectations that have not been met so far in his tenure. He now needs to do a better job in managing those expectations. That action would be good for him, and for the program.

gorilla10 9 years, 4 months ago

I am pissed off about whats going on.....who wouldn't be??? But at least I stand by the team and program....

TexasHawk44 9 years, 4 months ago

shocking that nobody wants to broadcast two of the worst football teams in the country playing a game! hard to imagine why...

Kent Wells 9 years, 4 months ago

I'm stunned this isn't on TV.

But, I'd rather watch this anyway:

http://www.hotforwords.com/2010/09/27/the-great-sphinx-of-egypt/

And I learned a lot watching this too!

gchawk 9 years, 4 months ago

This is sad news indeed for both people who were planning on watching.

gchawk 9 years, 4 months ago

No, the producer and announcer for Funniest Home Videos.

slowplay 9 years, 4 months ago

Gill was brought here at a very good salary, to win games. Period. That said, to jump all over the program, including his religion and player curfews, in his first year is wrong. Mangino left the cupboard bare and it will take at least 2 years to see if Gill has what it takes to be a successful HC. Mangino was an embarrassment to KU. His attitude and demeanor were not acceptable. Was he a good coach? That's debatable, but he was not a great coach and not worth the extra baggage (literally and figuratively). KU could have hired Nick Saban and the results would probably be similar. Lack of talent = lack of wins. I really think Gill has the potential to be a good if not great coach. He's been around some quality people during his career and regardless of the record, I thought he did a fantastic job at Buffalo with the material he had to work with. This year I'll give Gill some slack, but he is going to have to show us continued improvement over the next 2 years or he'll be gone.

slowplay 9 years, 4 months ago

LOL, OK. KU should be undefeated with the wealth of talent that was left behind by Magino. Your hate for Gill has blinded you to the truth. Mangino never was a good recruiter.

ZDKC 9 years, 4 months ago

Likewise, slowplay, your blind love for Gill is far from the truth. How about using some facts to support your statements instead of words such as would, could, should, probably, etc?

Heck, the way you're talking up Gill, the guy deserves the key to the city because .

ZDKC 9 years, 4 months ago

because (insert faith based statement).

mtdewjunkie 9 years, 4 months ago

last 4 years recruiting according to rivals (big 12 rankings) 07-9th, 08-9th, 09-5th, 10-9th...yup...mangino sure was cleaning up on the recruiting trail. having four 4* players is nice...to bad about 40 players play every week.

dtownhawkfan 9 years, 4 months ago

thank god i wont be obligated to watch now. it just makes my liver hurt when i do

Kent Wells 9 years, 4 months ago

So, this gives me the idea of some sort of class action lawsuit against KUAC. Hell, I have liver damage dating back to the Bob Valacente era, continued with Terry Allen, and on to last year and this. And with significant spikes as a result of the basketball program associated with Rhode Island, Bucknell (what the heck is it with B-teams? Just seeing us against a B team makes me thirsty for Vodka), B-something before them (see, evindence of reduced mental capacity), Arizona (associated class action lawsuit associated with the destruction of a remote control - thank goodness I missed the TV), Duke (1986), and UNI. Heck, I need a drink.

Maracas 9 years, 4 months ago

This is just like the old days, where football season was nothing more than a signal that basketball season was just around the corner. Congratulations Mr. Gill.

Benjamin Piehler 9 years, 4 months ago

guess i wont need to make an excuse for not watching it
