Search committee leader says no finalists yet to replace former KU AD Lew Perkins

The head of a committee looking for a new Kansas University athletic director says no finalists for the job have been found yet.

Search committee chairman Ray Evans told The Kansas City Star on Monday the effort is moving faster than expected. He says the search committee has interviewed several candidates, but no finalists' names have been presented to the Kansas chancellor.

Evans, a Kansas football player in 1979-80, says he expects recommendations in the "not-too-distant" future.

On Sunday night, "Sports by Brooks" reported that Kentucky AD and Kansas native Mitch Barnhart was a candidate for the job. Sources also named Tulsa University athletic director Bubba Cunningham as a candidate, but university officials declined to comment on the situation in a statement released by the university's athletic department in late October.

The next athletic director will replace Lew Perkins, who retired in early September.

Kansas chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little says the search for Perkins' replacement would be done by the end of the spring semester. staff contributed to this story.

Mitch Barnhart? Bubba Cunningham? Interviews scheduled for December?

Amazing how the AP can correctly identify the University of Kansas instead of the mythical Kansas University of the LJW.

Uh, what exactly did the AP "correctly identify"? All this story does is regurgitate the same crappy anonymous source story from Sports by Brooks that the LJW cited as well.

Wake me when someone actually goes on the record. Until then, it's all blather.

If Ray Evans played football at KU from 1979-1980 it was after his eligibility had expired, after his professional career had ended and after his service in World War II.

Which, I guess, is kinda cool if you think about it.

This is what happens when I become a smart aleck and think I'm clever. I end up looking stupid. Please ignore the idiot.

Recognizing that you're an idiot is the first step towards treatment of your affliction.

... just kiddin' ...

... perhaps "Jr." should be attached to his name. After all, how were YOU to know which one they were referring to?
