RB decommits from Jayhawks

Rivals.com reported Tuesday that Blue Springs (Mo.) High running back Darrian Miller has decommitted from Kansas University.

Miller, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, was the first member of the Class of 2011 to give KU coach Turner Gill an oral commitment. He committed to Kansas following a trip to Allen Fieldhouse for the KU-K-State basketball game earlier this year.

At the time, it seemed as if Miller’s commitment was rock solid.

“People have asked me about decommitments and whatnot,” the Blue Springs junior said in March. “But I honestly don’t see that in my future. If I had any doubt in my mind then I wouldn’t have made the decision. No one pressured me.”

Miller, the 2009 runner-up for the Simone Award — given annually to the top football player in the Kansas City area — rushed for 2,798 yards and 37 touchdowns in 14 games as a sophomore.

Although his latest move seems to indicate that he is not entirely sold on the Jayhawks, there still is a chance that Miller could wind up at KU. Oral commitments are not binding and he will have two opportunities to sign with the school of his choice in the coming months, one in November and one in February of 2011.

“There is still a good chance I could end up (at KU),” Miller told Rivals.com’s Jon Kirby. “I want to make sure there isn’t a school out there that can compete with Kansas. I still feel strong about them. They are definitely still right there in the running. I just need to make sure that’s what I want.”
