Rich Dalrymple, vice president/public relations for the Dallas Cowboys, contacted the Journal-World on behalf of his boss, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, to issue the following statement:
“Mr. Jones has not been involved in any discussions recently or within the past several months regarding conference realignment in college athletics. He has emphatically and deliberately made all efforts to steer clear of the recent issues involving realignment. Any sources who provide information to the contrary are absolutely incorrect.”
Dalrymple’s statement came in response to Tom Keegan’s column that cited a source saying that Jones has a vision of Big 12 Conference expansion that includes Notre Dame and Arkansas.

Remember, Keegan's "source" was someone "familiar with his thinking" .. not even someone who allegedly spoke with him about it.

If your first name isn't Chip then don't even try.. I knew something was fishy when the only news stories I could Google all led back to one place: KUSports. Yeah right..

So much for Arkansas joining.

After all the "junk" that has been published about college football realignment in recent weeks, I don't believe anything I read. Arkansas may be looking for a move and Jerry Jones may be right in the middle of it.

LOL.
Keegan gets called out as a crappy writer and a liar by Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.
Too Funny.
I guess that's what happens when his "source" is his own butt which he pulls stuff out of to write his articles.

Keegan is like Joe Schad of ESPN, his source on the Texas & OU going to the Pac-10 was his gut and he had the stones to say it on ESPN News.

For all you Keegan haters here is a link to an interesting article posted on Orangebloods http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?C... Chip is as good as it gets so all the Keegan bashers can apologize now. As always Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!!!

Totally agree, where there is smoke there is fire, Chip Brown has been right on with all of his sources, so Arkansas obviously at least kicked the tires. Probably won't happen, but to say they weren't interested at all is wrong. Now the Notre Dame rumor, does seem to originate here with Keegan's article, but nobody said Notre Dame was interested, just that Jones would like them in the Big 12. Nothing will happen unless Arkansas adds $15 million to our TV deal, then I wouldn't be surprised if we become the Big 12 minus 1.

I think there is a lot of reasons that Notre Dame would be interested in the Big XII over the Big 10.
1) Revenue sharing isn't equal. It's based on appearances, and we know that Notre Dame will make appearances
2) In the Big XII North, they would probably win the North 3 out of every 5 years (KU the other 2 - ; )
3) With consistent wins in the Big XII North they would probably get a game against OU or TX increasing money as well
4) Can create the Irish Network and not share a penny.
5) Increase their recruiting footprint in TX
I'm sure there is more, but these are some good reasons, none of which the Big 10 can offer. Keep in mind with the Big 10 option any revenue they bring in they have to share. Adding them into the Big 10 doesn't increase their recruiting ability.

Notre Dame is a much better fit with the Big 10 than the Big 12 football and competition wise, but there are other reasons why they've been with the Big East for everything but football.
There are lots of teams that they have in non-revenue sports that the Big 12 doesn't that compete at the highest levels in the NCAA. They'd also have long trips for all their competition.
Notre Dame coming to the Big 12 was never going to happen.

Are you Joe Barton? Who else are you going to apologize for today?
You quote some crap on a message board and call that a source?
Keegan is an idiot and a liar. He has no source other than pulling stuff out of his backside. When is the last time Keegan ever tried to get ANY source to go on the record with breaking news anyway? Oh wait... if he put his butt on the record he would be exposing himself... as a fraud.

Jerry Jones is interested in having this happen, however by saying he's been out of it the last few months is obviously true.
Did he ever say he doesn't want Arkansas and UT in same conference?
No. He said essentially he's been picking his ear wax for the last 6 months and hasn't had time to think.

I think that Arkansas would be interested in the Big 12 for several reasons.
Their old rivalries from the SWC would be reinstated.
Would help recruiting in Texas. (This is critical)
They have yet to rise to the top of the SEC after 17 long years. .
Florida, Alabama and LSU will win the conference for the next 17 years unless something changes.
Geographic proximity, bordered by two Big 12 states. Arkansas is more of a Southern Midwest than it is a Southeastern state. Heck, its west of the Mississippi. Ya know maybe we could get LSU too.
inteldesign (anonymous) says…
Why is it that we have no problem seeing our best teams in the Big 12 leave the No. 2 football conference in favor of the no. 4 football conference, but we cannot see one team leaving the No. 1 conference for the no. 2 conference? We have way too much of an inferiority thing going on here.

Add Louisville.
DCLawHawk (anonymous) replies…
Yes. Louisville makes way more sense than Memphis, both academically and athletically. I lived in Louisville for awhile. Folks there care most about the UK rivalry, but they aren't in the same conference with them now anyway.
jhawkrulz (anonymous) says…
I've said these are the best options in the following order:
1) Notre Dame
2) Arkansas
3) Memphis
4) tcu
5) byu
6) Houston
Remember that an average team is supposed to make about $20MM/year, now the smaller schools will make about $14-17, but avg is $20MM. So if you are going to add a team, they have to be able to add that $20MM to the TV contract. Notre Dame - Yes, Arkansas - Yes. Memphis - Maybe not quite, but with the Fedex owner offering $10MM/year it makes it close and expands the geography. 4) No, but Texas legislature may push it. 5) Maybe - BYU with Utah leaving might have options, big following and picks up another TV market, BYU fans also travel (ask OU) 6) Houston - 4th largest city in the US, but doesn't seem to be able to pull its weight, probably not.
Just my thoughts.

jaybate news service (jns):
Dateline: Campanile overlooking Potter's Lake
Slug: Tuna caught Tom Keegan, who took the bait hook, line and sinker.
jns stringers lurking around the Campanile today reported a rumor that Tom Keegan was seen leaping out of the water of Potter's Lake and trying to spit out a hook set by a fisherman at lake's edge calling himself Tuna. Tuna was being exhorted to land Tom Keegan by a tall, belligerent and white haired man going by the nickname of General Pattton. jns stringers report that each time Keegan jumped out of the water he shouted, "I didn't know the tip came from Parcells, I didn't know the tip came from Parcells."
The man called General Patton reputedly laughed gleefully and said, "I knew this would send Jones into an ambiguous press release.
Probably not developing...
(Note: All fiction. No malice.)

It is absurd to think that Arkansas would consider leaving the SEC, a stable conference, for the dysfunctional Big 12. It's a pipe dream. I don't doubt that Jerry Jones would like to see it happen, and I strongly suspect he's tried to broker such a deal, or at least get the discussion started. But let's be honest, it's never going to happen.
