KU athletic department records third-highest GPA in school history

Kansas University student-athletes recorded the third-highest grade-point average in department history, the school announced Friday, with a combined 3.01 GPA for the spring semester.

The women's golf team set a new KU record grade-point average of 3.62, while the softball and football teams recorded new team bests of 3.35 and 2.75, respectively. Nine of KU's 15 teams posted a GPA of 3.0 or better.

The KU tennis team produced its second-highest grade-point average in history with a 3.48, while the volleyball team recorded a 3.46. Other sports posting a 3.0 or better were: swimming and diving (3.33), women's track and field (3.19), rowing (3.14), soccer (3.11) and men's golf (3.01).

Other team GPA's included the spirit squad (2.88), men's track and field (2.85), women's basketball (2.80), men's basketball (2.73) and baseball (2.69).

On the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, 55 percent of students on active rosters (277 total) achieved a 3.0 GPA or better. Of those 277 student-athletes, 35 posted a GPA of 4.0 or better.

Members of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll will be honored during halftime of a football game in 2010.

Yes - academically and athletically, CU matches up well with the PAC-10. LOL

In related news, the LJW has found by digging through Robert Hemenway's trash that Lew Perkins personally took all tests for each athlete rendering everyone ineligible in all sports at KU.

For those who think Lew should be held responsible for the ticket scandal because he is the man in charge, then he should also get credit for this.

Rock Chalk!

Can we get Nebraska's numbers, since they are at this moment soliciting their curators to join the 'academically superior' Big 10?

I suppose the LJW will soon be investigating the improper purchase of textbooks and hiring of un-certified academic tutors for our student athletes. Clearly everything we do here at KU looks great on the surface, but rotten underneath.

Thanks for finally posting a positive article. I know your motto is stories that bleed lead, but despite some obvious unrest, there are still plenty of good things happening here at KU.

How do you get a GPA of 4.0 or better? Good news, though.

Lew Perkins is behind this obvious cheating scandal. Fire him! And fire the chancellor too!
