Hancock: Big 12 shakeup won’t affect BCS

— Bowl Championship Series executive director Bill Hancock says the defections of Nebraska and Colorado from the Big 12 will not influence the BCS.

Hancock spoke Friday at the Mid-American Conference's media day at Ford Field in Detroit.

Nebraska announced recently that it will leave the conference for the Big Ten, while Colorado plans to join the Pac-10, along with Utah. The two defections leave the Big 12 with only 10 teams.

Hancock says: "As far as the BCS's future and operation, there's no effect."

He also says any potential playoff system would have to include 16 teams, although he wants it known he's not in favor of a playoff system for college football.

BCS is stupid. Just give us an 8 team playoff... NOW!

I hate the BCS but I think this is a huge development, if true. There is no reason to break up the Big 12 if they are still benefiting the same as a "super" conference trying to expand. At least for now it's that way. Good news.

How about some recruiting news instead: Jason Hensley, a linebacker from Alma, Arkansas committed on Tuesday JaCorey Shepherd, a wide receiver from Mesquite, Texas committed today.

That puts us at 14 guys in the class before the season even begins.

People who post a simple "I have the BCS" have no idea what they are talking about. The BCS is flawed like everything including a playoff system (they still can't stop expanding the basketball playoffs we love so much). I always get the sense that these are the people who grew up with the BCS and don't know how mind blowingly awful the old system used to be.

Those of us who do remember want a playoff too. We just don't act like the BCS took our lunch money and stole our girlfriend.

The interesting part of this article is that it sounds like the BCS would, if it was forced, jump to a 16 team playoff. I always assumed they would just ramp it up one level at a time and go to a 4 team playoff first and so forth.
