The Kansas women's basketball team is ranked No. 22 in the recently released Athlon Sports College Basketball preseason issue. KU is one of four Big 12 schools to make the preseason top 25.

In addition, KU senior Danielle McCray was honored by the magazine as a preseason second-team All-American.

The Jayhawks were 22-14 last season, ending with a run to the WNIT title game.

Late Night in the Phog will officially open the basketball season on Oct. 16.

Go KU Women! Bonnie Ball is alive and well. Mens BB, Football, and now the Lady Jayhawks. Keep the momentum growing.

That is great news! I wonder if there are still critics on this board about Women's BB.

There better still be critics if the greatest accomplishment is making the WNIT title game. Talk to me when they actually make the tournament that matters. Polls mean nothing. It's time for Bonnie Ball to win some games and prove they belong. I'm hoping they've turned the corner.

okjhok you are showing your IGNORANCE. I guess you think Bonnie inherited a Top 25 program? No hardly Washington had ground us into the ground below most D2 schools in the state of Kansas. Marian didn't recruit Jackie Freakin Stiles, Kendra Wecker or Koehn. Do you really think it was easy for Bonnie to recruit in the borders let alone nationally when you have that kind of a rep? NO it wasn't but we still landed highly recruited McCray and slowly but surely built a program the RIGHT WAY(we could have hired Kurt Budke like Okie State did and just sign JUCOs year in and year out and win NOW but not later......) Sorry but Lew knows what he is doing with WBB. Ask Geno today and he will still tell you that with Lew and his support UConn wouldn't be what it is today.

We have only gotten better and this year are going to be one of the top teams in the Big 12. You take baby steps and then grow up. Had Angel not gotten hurt last year we would have made the NCAAs maybe won a game but in no way would have the experience we do now because of the NIT. Also got some fans to AFH for NIT finals. Generated some excitement and this year go in with a buzz around the program. Watch out this year Bonnieball has finally arrived!

I'm showing my ignorance because the program should be critiqued? How many years has Bonnie been there? My point was that they still haven't accomplished anything yet. If you think they have, we're in different camps. NIT MEANS NOTHING. I hope they earn the preseason ranking, but I need to see some evidence on the court.

No your ignorance comes from the fact you have NO CLUE how far this program has come. Bonnie has done wonders in getting us competitve and this is the first time they have received any recognition in preseason mags. I sure in the hell don't think that matters unless we win but we are flat out set up to kick some a s s.

Winning for the long term sometimes means not winning early and building a strong foundation to win down the road. Coach Mangino and Bonnie are very similar(Bill Self took over a program that is a power and just came off two Final Fours) watch and see. Patience is the key.

Preseason 22. Great. OF COURSE, the play on the court will determine whether the ladies move up or down from there. I'm voting for up!

Nice work, Bonnie. Keep it up.
