We're sorry to announce that we won't be running the Kream Keegan football pick 'em contest for the 2009 football regular season.
A technical problem prevents us from receiving entries and scoring each user's submission. While the error is repairable with enough time, part of the reason we won't be fixing Kream Keegan this season is because we're developing new contest tools that we hope will replace the many-years old Kream Keegan contest.
By basketball season, we hope to roll out a score predictor contest, that will allow fans to guess the score of each KU men's basketball game. One winner each game would win a T-shirt and possibly other prizes. We also intend to build some more contests around the NCAA Tournament in March and possibly around the NCAA football bowls in December and January.
In the meantime, you can still sign up for a drawing to win your own Kream Keegan T-shirt. Send an email with "Kream Keegan" in the title, along with your name, address and shirt size in the text of the email to jnewell@ljworld.com. Five winners will be picked from the emails received, with each winner receiving a free Kream Keegan T-shirt. The deadline for receiving entries is noon CST on Tuesday, Sept. 15. One entry per person please.

I remember winning the week KU beat NU for the first time in 36 years. I can't remember the final score that I called but it was pretty close. I'm still waiting for my t-shirt.

i'd love to see a fantasy player type contest for march madness.
give me ten teams
you would draft players, say 10.
they can be from any teams in the big dance - and you get points for various stat categories - pts, reb, ast, blk...
any way you accumulate points through the whole tournament.
i would like to see teams be able to pick up say 2 free agents per week or something...
ok ... develop it. thanks!

Jimmy (or Alan), to say that nobody cares about basketball season now or at any point during the year means you don't know anything about Kansas Basketball. Also, are you that small minded that you can't follow what's going on in both?? Come on!

I am feelin Jimmy_Dean's pain here. I love KU basketball and love reading about hoops, but I'm a little embarassed that under the 5 Active Discussions it's Hoops BBQ, BBall Recruiting, Kream Keegan, Greg Ostertag, then finally KU v. UTEP. No one's talking about KU football right now. Not ESPN, not Fox Sports, heck KU fans are hardly even talking about it. The LJWorld has done a good job covering football. They give us good material every day of the week. Yet it still seems like they're just catering to a very small percentage of the KU fanbase. I'm partially to blame. I read all of the football stuff, but comment fairly infrequently. Oh well, people will jump on the bandwagon when we're 6-0 and about to welcome OU to Memorial Stadium for the first time in a long time.

What the heck are you talking about? There's a good conversation under each and every football story on the site right now.

Plastic has a point - I have been trying to post on football news exclusively, but when I tried posting an appeal to the basketball fans on one of 'those' articles to get involved in a new memorial football stadium design that would make them more comfortable and cause them to attend some games, they became a bit hostile.
This KU basketball fan focus group LJW panders to should be paid to go to KU football games by the AD, they are exactly what Mangino hoped for in a recent article.

KU basketball...111 years old, 5 championships, 3rd all-time in wins, one of the most storied histories in college basketball, Naismith, Allen, etc. etc.
KU football...119 years old, 6 bowl victories
Given history, I don't blame anyone for putting basketball ahead of football. But you guys need to relax. After attending games at Memorial where many times the opposing crowd outnumbered our fans, the football following now is nothing short of a revolution.

I must be reading a different paper. There have been plenty of football articles and discussions regarding them. The most common posts are from gardenjay whining about the lack of football support. I have season tickets, went to the first game, and I saw a record crowd at memorial. What the hell else do you want? We chat all the way up to game time and everyone and their dog are at the stadium for game time. Calm the gdamn down! Your BS is going to turn into a self fulfilling prophecy before long.

jwliddell... Exactly. Although, since you asked what else I want... You could cook up some BBQ for me when I come up there for a game in October. Or was that a rhetorical question?

If you guys want to talk football. I have something for you. Todd Ressing has not looked good at all thru two games. He is inaccurate with his throws and can't seem to throw down the field at all. Hopefully he will get this corrected before the "real" games begin. We have been fortunate to have played a couple pretty sorry teams. What are your thoughts?

JayhawkJohn,
I think the center issue is leading to that. If you listen to Coach Manginos latest press conference, he basically says that the issue will be corrected. I would imagine it is difficult for Reesing to be as efficient as possible since he has no clue where in the hell the football is going. I think he is doing pretty awesome given that issue.
Sorry jwliddell, look what I started. So, where is it that we can find you tailgating before the games?

I wish to lodge a formal complaint that the hed does not read, "Kream Keegan Kontest Kanceled for 2009." To whom should I address my strongly-worded letter?

FarneyMac-
I think you have captured the spirit of that contest. LJW should be forced to eat at Krispy Kreme and use a Kar Wash.
