Self makes pair of in-home visits

Kansas University basketball coach Bill Self made in-home recruiting visits with a pair of high school players on Wednesday: Josh Selby, 6-foot-2 from Lake Clifton High in Baltimore, and Roscoe Smith, 6-8 from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va.

Smith is originally from Baltimore, where his parents live and where the visit took place.

Selby’s mom told Rivals.com her son may visit KU for Late Night in the Phog on Oct. 16.

Today Self will be in the home of Doron Lamb, 6-4 from Oak Hill Academy.

Selby might be a long shot at this point...but theshiver.com seems to let us think that the visit went very well...Selby's mom said he wont decide til the spring though we it will be a while...Havent heard anything about the visit to Roscoe Smith and honestly its up in the air at this point as to whether we will get him or not...good lookin player though, he would be a nice addition.

Rivals did an interview with his mother after the in-home visit. She was very excited and they hope to get here Late Night in the Phog. NOWHERE did she ever state that Josh would commit in the Spring. I am so sick of people reporting inaccurate things and then rumours get started! Spend the 9.95 a month or 100 a year to get real info. The LJW could actually tell a little about the player but instead a paragraph will work for them. WHAT A JOKE OF A PAPER!

It would have been nice to include the Rivals rankings like has been done in similar articles in the past.

onlyoneUinKansas... Did your mom forget to warm the milk bottle this morning?

onlyoneUinKansas-Did you think for one minute that Selby's mom talked to TheShiver too? They probably asked similar and different questions and got info that Rivals didn't. Why pay $9.95 a month for info that is free and quicker on TheShiver? TheShiver.com put a tweet out about the visit with Selby and hour before Slant had anything up at all. Plus they get stuff on ESPN, which is cool. Where have they been inaccurate? The Lamb stuff? Hard to argue when the DAD of Lamb talks to them. Plus, Shay's original story said Lamb wasn't 100% - per Steve Smith and that he (Shay) would follow up with the parents or Lamb himself. He just got beat, dude. Plus they broke the UK stuff going on right now a few months before it happened.

I fear that a lot of kids will wait until the spring, which could push this class WAY out. That stinks, but really, kids should wait that long.

Hey OnlyoneUni- I read the same article. Awesome dude! Just a quick pointer for you: 95% of the community has never heard any of this information. Would you just rather the LJWorld reprint National AP sports articles? A paper should be credible and the this paper is getting it's info from credible sources. There are only so many angles you can tell one simple in home visit story. Sorry bud.

Beal is our man....love any kid that we visit, but he'll be the focus. Him and Barnes. Now these guys are out East, and that's important to keep that tie going...but our best shots this year are still closer to home.

One thing the competition should never do, is underestimate Self. he's a recruiting guru....he's excellent at it. we've had kids commit, that haven't seen the campus!

I once heard from a recruit's mother that he has...and I can't take credit for this but.... he has "KITCHEN KARMA". What she meant was, he is able to go into the heart of a household which almost always is the kitchen and sit down and project a true image of the excellence KU, the basketball program, his staff and what potential there is for the family's son.

No bigtime BS, no criticism of other programs, no promises of automatic PT...just the promise of his 100% dedication to the potential recruit as a student-athlete and as a young man.

The players who listen, are the ones we want...the players that don't listen, well...........

I don't want Selby, but Self will do whatever is best. I agree to keep the recruiting trails open all over the map, but let's get the talent in the back yard first. I will be sick if we lose Barnes and puke if we lose Ellis to Duke or UNC respectively. Deron Lamb would be a great addition over Selby.

Barnes Beal Ellis

Beal is a 2011 recruit, not 2010 in case some of you referring to him didn't know.

Ellis is a 2012 recruit, not 2010 in case some of you didn't know that either

Why would you spend $100 to get real info from a place this isn't as good as the free one. That just seems silly to me.

Selby is a stud and we will take him in a heartbeat if chooses to come to KU. Be very happy if that happens.

I'm sure Selby is a great player. Why would you decommit from Tennessee and then plan a visit? It makes little sense to me! What is his problem? Did he feel that his Tennessee commitment was too soon and wanted to milk the attention?

Check his schedule of visits and you'll see he is planning to visit Tennessee again. Also, I don't care what class each of these players are in, I only hope they commit at the appropriate time to KU. I don't want to lose any home or regional products to UNC, UK, Duke or any other school for that matter.

Next year's KU class recruited by the AP coach of the year, Bill Self:

Terrence Jones Harrison Barnes Royce Woolridge (& a yet to be determined 7 footer)

Rick Arnoldy 10 years, 4 months ago

Can you blame these guys for waiting until Spring to sign anymore? They want to see if the coach is going to be there next year before they sign.

truehawk93: I doubt if he did it for attention. Maybe it was his first visit, and he got caught up in the hype. Once he got home he realized he hadn't given himself a chance to check out his options, and backed off. When he visits Tennessee again he will have something to compare them with.
