Kansas University junior Alonso Rojas was named one of 42 candidates for the 2009 Ray Guy Award, given to the country’s top punter each season.
Ten semifinalists will be named on Nov. 13.
Rojas has landed 11 of his 29 punts this season inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Eight punts have been fair caught, seven downed and only nine returned.
While Rojas is averaging just 38.86 yards per punt, he is averaging 42.1 yards on the 18 punts he has kicked from his own side of the 50-yard line. He has three 50-plus yard punts and has kicked at least one 47-yard punt in five straight games.

It shows you that yards per kick is not a good way to tell if a guy is doing a good job. Rojas has been wonderful
