Manhattan Sophomore Allison Mayfield's team-high 14 kills powered the Kansas University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) sweep over in-state rival Kansas State on Saturday afternoon.
The win, which was KU’s first conference road victory of the season, marked head coach Ray Bechard's 900th career win.
KU stopped a five-match losing skid against KSU as it improved its record to 10-8 overall and 3-6 in the Big 12. K-State dropped to 7-11 on the season and 1-7 in league play.
“Getting career win number 900 is nice, but what’s really important is the fact that the team won a conference match on the road,” said Bechard, who is in his 12th season at KU. “We played well in all phases of the game today and we had a good balance on offense.”
“Late in the sets we made some good volleyball plays,” Bechard added. “From start to finish I thought we played very consistent.”
The Kansas offense had its best showing in eight outings recording a .312 attack percentage.
