Former Kansas University basketball coach Ted Owens is one of 14 individuals to be inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame today in Wichita.
Owens, who coached at KU from 1964 to ’83, will be enshrined in a class that includes the late Paul Endacott, a former KU basketball player who led the Jayhawks to mythical national titles in 1922 and ’23, and former Oklahoma State hoops coach Eddie Sutton.
Others to be enshrined: Jesse Barnes, Don Calhoun, Orlis Cox, Gwinn Henry, Steve Henson, Ken Mahoney, John Mason, Harold Patterson, Ken Roberts, Janell Smith and Ken Swenson.
Owens back in August was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.
“No matter how hard you work and how big your dreams are, if you don’t have the help of other people, it’s difficult to experience success,” said Owens, who led KU to six Big Eight Conference titles, nine Big Eight tourney titles and a pair of Final Four berths (1971, 74). Owens, who played college hoops at Oklahoma, was 1978 national coach of the year.

Sutton is being inducted into the Hall of Fame, but he got a DUI? Dammit, now I'm confused.

I won't downplay the seriousness of a DUI, but I don't see why one transgression should erase a lifetime of achievement. Eddie was a heckuva coach and a classy guy.
My question, why was Endacott left out of the title?

Let me get this straight: one of only a handful of persons to win 800 games and the greatest strategic basketball mind of his generation and the mentor of our own Bill Self gets reduced to having been the head coach at Okie State?
Unacceptable.
