KU women defeat Emporia State, 85-48, in exhibition finale

Krysten Boogaard and Aishah Sutherland both contributed double-doubles, and the 20th-ranked Kansas women used a late first-half run to pull away in an 85-48 victory over Emporia State in the Jayhawks' exhibition finale.

KU held ESU without a field goal for 10 straight minutes in the first half, posting a 28-2 run during that time to turn a 17-14 advantage into a 45-16 lead.

Boogaard led the Jayhawks, posting 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go with 10 rebounds. Danielle McCray added 14 points, while Sutherland contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.

KU dominated the boards, out-rebounding ESU, 51-30. The Jayhawks had 24 offensive rebounds.

ESU is preseason ranked No. 7 in the Division-II poll women's basketball poll.

KU opens the regular season with a home game against Oral Roberts at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Way to go, ladies. Sounds like a nice, balanced team effort.

I wish I lived in Lawrence so I could get to all the games. I did make in in for last week's opener, and the attendance was pretty slack. Hopefully, it will begin to build as the season progresses.
