Recruit Knight enjoys visit to KU

Brandon Knight, a 6-foot-3 senior basketball point guard from Pine Crest High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., completed his official recruiting visit to Kansas University on Sunday morning.

Knight’s dad, Efren, said his son, who also has visited Kentucky and UConn, likely would visit Florida on Nov. 13-15. Rivals.com’s No. 1-ranked player nationally also has Miami and Syracuse on his list.

“Brandon was able to do quite a bit during his visit this weekend. We all had a great time. It was a great experience for us,” Efren told Rivals.com. “The school is a great school. Kansas is a great place, and Brandon really liked his visit.”

Have you ever heard a recruit "bad mouth" his campus visit? They are treated like Kings and always enjoy the lavish attention that they receive from everyone! I don't Knight any differently.

I'm glad he enjoyed his visit but it would have been better if he had come for late night/for a game. That way he could have seen all the support from fans, & got a better idea of what its like playing in Allen Field House. Oh well, not too worried about that. I know Self will work his magic, like he always does.

I am pretty sure that either Knight or Selby will be attending KU.....it will depend on who commits first.

Losing Payne is a pain [at least he skipped Kentucky]. Kansas is still on Josh Smith's list [along with about 30 other schools, so maybe the strategy is:

1] Condor comes back for a fourth year..[in my dreams]
2] Withey, Mr.Robinson and Markieff are the triple towers for 2010/2011.
3] Coach Self has a surprise up his sleeve a] Josh Smith, b] JUCO transfer, c] Other
4] Jaybate starts emailing Adriean, shows him the error of his ways and gets him to decommit from MSU and go KU!!!

Oakville - Knight and Selby are necesarily an "or", since Knight is a Sr and Selby is a Jr. Brandon, and all top HS players, are possible OAD.

We pushed Payne away. Not the other way around. No spot for a big next year, let's load up on top notch smalls this year and grab a high profile big, as well as a sleeper big, from the 2011 class.

Letter to Adrien "Big Crane" Payne:

Dear Adrien,

Whatever your problems are, do not let them divert you away from your best opportunity.

Whatever people say they will do for you, or give you, do not listen to them.

However many bigs KU has, do not cheat yourself out of working with Danny Manning.

Whatever they say about the offense that is run elsewhere, this is the greatest offense in the history of basketball and Bill Self is the greatest practitioner of it.

No matter how much you may think your height makes you a 4, remember that great 5s are not any particular height. They are a personality type with a skill set and a dominant will. Bill Russell was the greatest center of all time, because he was the greatest defender/rebounder/winner of all time. He was your height. Dave Cowens was your height. Spenser Haywood was your height. And so on up to present. Do not run from your rendezvous with destiny. You are "The Big Crane."

No matter how goody goody you may think KU's image is, no matter how much you think Lawrence may not be cool enough for you, no matter how disconnected you may feel from all the WASPs in the stands, no matter what, you are a great talent and KU basketball, especially the 5 position, is about developing the great talents.

Some other coaches can sweet talk you and make you feel better, because they have to.

But no coach can do more to turn you into the team player that you need to be to be a top professional center, than Bill Self can.

And no other assistant coach can teach you all the tricks there are to being a college and pro big, than Danny Manning.

No one can resist their destiny ultimately.

See you in Lawrence next summer.

sincerely,
jaybate on behalf of jayhawk nation

Brandon.
You lead your team in assists, nice work, we value team work + defense over individual awards. HCBS has brought us a tremendous defense tradition, we love it.

You wear #11- you may wear #11 @ Crimson & Blue, seems that number is waiting for you here.
Jacque Vaghan wore #11 for 5 NBA teams, one of our best ever guards, back when you were 10. His KU team went 35-3 can you beat that with your Kansas team? A nice goal.

You live 15 miles north of Mario Chalmers, have lunch with him and get his Kansas insight, he'll share the Kansas spirit and how it is hard to verbalize, just come and see for yourself.
Don't violate any NCAA rules though so if not legal, then cancel the meeting, you can speak with him after you comit. Our program staying clean is more important than any one recruit. Therefore, don't meet Mario unless it is legal. And since it isn't likely legal then just forget the thought. Yet if you run into him at one of your games wearing a Kansas shirt, just smile.

We have a pretty darn good guard in his last year here, would you come and lead us next?

NC has the Dean Dome, coach Smith played here. KY has Rupp arena, C Rupp played here. UCLA has Pauley and he didn't play here, but C Wooden spent a summer here playing summer ball and helping to build our memorial stadium. He was on his way to Calif. on his way from Indiana, as he wanted to soak up some real basketball spirit from it's roots. The place coach Naismith coached and is buried, so Wooden spent a summer in Lawrence. In closing,
NBA & College coach, Larry Brown, coached and played a lot of spots, google what he says about the Kansas mystic and basketball tradition, did you know in every city of his ABA/NBA career he also wore #11. Do you believe in karma?

We know for recurits it isn't about the past, that's for fans, for you it is about the future, come to Kansas, wear # 11 and build new traditions and create tomorrow's history, the past is past the future is up to you, the tradition lives on.

best wishes with your selections, I for one, hope we extend you an offer.

Jaybate, I respectively disagree with you. The greatest center of all time was not Bill Russell. That honor goes to Wilt Chamberlain. Here are a couple of reasons: What player had more rules changes (e.g. widening of the "paint") to diminish his domination of the game? It isn't or wasn't Bill Russell !!. What player is the only NBA player to score 100 points in a game (again, it isn't or wasn't Bill Russell !!). I could give you more, but the L J W staff may get tired of facts that they already know. Championship rings are a moot point, because a center doesn't win championships, the team wins the championships. Championship teams are made of 8 to 10 superior players that know their roles and perform to "championship" levels in those roles. Even the greatest center would struggle without an outstanding group of surrounding players. Russell had those at Boston. Wilt had those with Jerry West, Elgin Baylor and others in Los Angeles - where were the Celtics and Bill Russell during those years? Finally, my reply is a discussion of center and not teams. Personally, I am glad that Wilt's number is retired in the "Phog" -- it should be because he is the greatest center of all time. Like you, I hope that the "Big Crane" chooses the Jayhawks and is as great as Wilt !!!
