Kansas center Cole Aldrich puts his arm around guard Sherron Collins as the two make their way from the floor late in the second half against Iowa State Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Collins, Aldrich preseason All-Americans
Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich were named to the Associated Press's first team All-American list. The Jayhawks have their first exhibition game Tuesday night.
Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins, who last month were named the Big 12’s co-preseason basketball players of the year, shared another huge honor Monday.
The Kansas University standouts were tapped first-team Associated Press All-America, with Notre Dame’s Luke Harangody, Kentucky’s Patrick Patterson and Duke’s Kyle Singler.
With each passing day, it continues to be difficult — if not impossible — for anybody to differentiate between the inseparable KU teammates/best buddies, who after last season were voted first-team All-Big 12 by the league’s coaches and media members alike.
“It’s almost kind of like he’s the girlfriend and I’m the guy,” Aldrich, a 6-foot-11 junior from Bloomington, Minn., said with a laugh. He received 49 votes from a 65-member national media panel to 5-foot-11 Chicago senior Collins’ 39. Harangody led the way with 57 votes, while Patterson had 35 and Singler 30.
“Sherron is one of my favorite basketball players and favorite people in general. To have a teammate to share such an honor is huge for not only us individually but the whole state of Kansas and the University of Kansas,” Aldrich added.
Now, about that “girlfriend” analogy ...
Aldrich was informed his little joke likely would end up on blogs all over America.
“I know it’s going to be,” Aldrich said. “I just like to tease Sherron about little things. I say Sherron is from the suburbs, but he’s not really from the suburbs. That’s the greatest thing about our relationship. We can have a little fun with you guys (media) and fun with each other.”
Collins never knows what Aldrich will say next. “I don’t know what he meant by that. I’ll have to ask him when we get out there,” Collins said.
The two are the sixth set of teammates to be named to the AP’s preseason All-America squad and first since Duke’s J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams in 2005-06. KU’s Raef LaFrentz and Paul Pierce were honored in 1997-98.
“I think you’d be hard pressed to find two better players in the country than those two,” coach Bill Self said.

More importantly, let's discuss the accolades at the end of the 2009-'10 season.
John Wall will be:
SEC Player of the Year
Naismith National Player of the Year
1st Team All-America
2010 Final Four Most Outstanding Player
The #1 pick in the NBA draft
and most importantly...
Starting PG on the NCAA Tourney championship team
Yes, he's not only that good, he's flat-out the best.
What a wonderful year to be John Wall and a Kentucky Wildcat!
Go Big Blue!!!
UK Wildcats

Here's the way I see it - UK will make it to the Final 4 only to lose in the Championship Game to the Jayhawks, after which, UK will have to forfeit all of it's games due to recruiting violations from its sleazy head coach, who before suffering another embarassment, will bolt for the NBA. Damn, I'm glad I'm not a UK fan!!

Except that it isn't gonna happen. We already know that HCBS already owns Cal in championship games.
Besides, Cal learned at the feet of Larry Brown, a KU head coach who led us to another championship. Adolph Rupp learned at the feet of Phog Allen, the father of basketball coaching, another KU coach.
The K in Kentucky might as well stand for Kansas, because without the Crimson and Blue, there would be no big blue.

You are a joke! I've read some of your comments and never bothered to respond to any of them until now. Are you just in denial or are you really that uninformed/clueless??? Are you aware that your new head coach had his last season at Memphis forfeited? I beleive the same thing happened when he coached at UMass too. Are you also aware of the fact that he clearly got outcoached in the championship game?? Not to mention the fact that John Wall is not even elligible to play. No need to worry though, I'm sure coach Cal will make sure everything is taken care of legally and compliantly, just like he did with Derrick Rose. Oh wait...nevermind.

Chicago - Wall is eligible to play. However KYCATS is delusional. There is no way that Wall's name is mentioned for any of the accolades you mentioned. Honors such as those do not go to freshman in the SEC. Wall is no Durant, or Beasley. Trust me, he will not have that kind of impact. You're foolish to talk this much on our board because you just look ignorant. Your team will be exciting to watch, but leave it at that

Guys, I know we hate kentucky and we love kansas but have you watched any clips of this kid? He is as talented as Rose, Griffen, Beasley, Durant. That being said, for the 2010 season I'll take Sherron because of his experience and his leadership. But if I'm gonna draft a point guard that will run my team for the next 10 years its Wall.

He could post on KY message boards – but he would be ignored there because of the high rates of illiteracy. I am guilty of responding to KY_mange too – but will now stop.
This news of Sherron & Cole is great, but not unexpected. In 1997-98 we had Raef & Pierce as preseason All Americans. But, this year the supporting cast is much stronger than Ryan Robertson & TJ Pugh. I feel a bit sorry for Ft. Jangaroo,
I haven't seen Wall play yet, but based on recent experience, it seems kind of pointless to claim that Wall is the most talented player this coming season.
Let's put some analytical lenses in our Persols and look at the guys you claim (as if mastering the obvious) Wall is as talented as.
Rose--a big PG with no SAT; uncertain level of intelligence, coasted through a lousy conference; couldn't take a stacked team with CDR and Dorsey to a ring; couldn't produce in the biggest game of his life; got guarded out of his jock by shorter guys than him in NC game; gets drafted numero uno by his crazy home town franchise; scores nearly 17ppg in the L, but is an atrocious three point shooter (22%) that opponents sag off of.
Griffen--a fine big man who could look overpowering when he played healthy, but could not get it done in college, or the pros, because of injuries.
Beasley--a scoring machine who wasted his year in college at KSU; master flamer; did not make those around him better the way great players do; not an incredible professional scoring machine at all (13ppg, 6rpg); does not make those around him in the pros better; substance abuse resort attendee; reputedly posted images of himself with 'huna; maybe not the sharpest tack in the box.
Durant--a scoring machine on a deep Texas team lead by two future NBA draft picks at guard (Augustin and Abrams), could not take down KU at crunch time and could not take his team even near a ring; as a pro, a very good professional basketball player, who nevertheless does not make his teammates better.
If Wall were as talented as these guys, UK is a cinch not to win it all.
If Wall were as intelligent as Rose and Beasley, UK's chances just went to slim and none.
If Wall were as dominant as Griffen and stayed healthy, UK would have a chance, but he's 6'1" guard. Not a super carrier like Griffen.
If Wall were as good at making his teammates better as Durant was; UK would be out in the cold.

Hey, maybe Wall is as talented as OJ Mayo. Mayo turned a pretty talented team before he arrived into...a pretty talented team the year he was at USC.
Or maybe Wall is as good as that guy that came to KSU the year before Beasley? The one who blew his knee and ran around his last year looking like he could beast but then never did beast. I can't even remember his name now.
The difference between talent and excellence is the difference between Darryl Dawkins and Bill Russell. Talent means almost nothing in terms of who wins championships. Excellence, making others around you better, making your match-up advantage work in a team framework, these are what matter.
If the guys you list as the most talented persons who have played college basketball lately really are the most talented, then talent is neither something to covet, nor worry about when it comes to winning rings, or in several cases even going deep in the Madness, and in a few cases (Mayo) even winning a conference.
KU has 4 guys that can guard John Wall and make him miserable. And even if Wall fouls out three of them on a night when the refs are homing for him, we have another guy that can guard him and make him miserable. Even a great player of average height at his position is hardly an insurmountable edge to opponents with depth there.
Wilt Chamberlain was not an insurmountable edge to North Carolina in '57.
Xavier Henry is probably the most talented freshman in college basketball by a considerable margin, given the match up advantage he will probably bring to his position by the end of the season.
But even Xavier's talent means diddly unless he can do one of two things: 1) make everyone better as he carries the offensive load (the way MJ did as a pro); or 2) fits in as a glue guy willing parse his phenomenal gifts for the team (the way MJ did in college).
If Calipari had recruited a bunch of winners to UK, if Wall were the capstone winner at UK, then I could see getting hot and bothered about UK and Wall.
Otherwise not.
They are going to run Princeton on Jack Daniels.
Wall will dribble around a lot and score a lot.
Then the competition will get stiff.
Then Wall will not be able to carry UK past the best.
Then Wall will truly and rightfully be a member of the list of talents.

I don't even think we will have the chance to meet them at any point in the tournament. They are sure to lose at least 4 games during the regular season. The SEC is not CUSA. Cal will have to actually coach every game and hope to win the SEC conf. championship to get a number one seed. We will not be playing number two or three seeds until the Elite 8 and beyond. Yes, wall is amazing. He will be the best rookie this year, and might actually make the 1st team All American list at the end of the season. He will be the #1 draft pick without doubt. However, in regards to KY as a team, that's exactly what they lack. The team part. They have a new coach, which brings a new playing style, coaching style, and an adjustment all around. Add that to a team FULL of newcomers and you don't get a championship team. You get a very good team capable of doing a lot, but not a championship. That's where Kansas wins. They may not have as much pure talent top to bottom on their roster (not off by much), but they are a team and can play D.
Now, about this article. I was a bit disappointed that it was all about Luke. He's gonna be great, but it would have been nice to read more about Cole and Sherron.

Wall will not be able to drive the lane and put up shots like it's nothing. Not when there are guys 6'10" waiting for him. They don't have to block his shot, they just need to alter it....a little thing called intimidation. John Wall will be in for a rude awakening. Things didn't come easy for Derrick Rose.

To whomever commented about how UK struggled in the turnover and three point shooting areas, I dont think KU will look great either. I expect KU to have a ton of turnover as well considering Collins has new weapons to work with. This team probably has not meshed yet and with that their will be some turnovers.
But considering Fort Hays State doesnt have anyone taller than 6'8, KU should dominate the game inside and out. Dont read too much into how our big men look because there is no one that really matches up with them. Look for Tyshawn Taylor and see how he is coming off that thumb injury. Look for how much the Morris twins have improved since last season. And lastly, look for how good our freshman play, in particular X and Trob...When X played in that scrimmage he looked very nervous in front of that huge crowd at Late Night and Trob looked very nice and quick in that scrimmage...Hopefully we see X look better and more under control and I hope we see much of the same out of Trob.

Some things came really easy for Derrick Rose -- after a near failure on his first SAT test in Chicago, he ROCKED that second SAT test in Detroit! It was "easy"!
~€((eerilly similar to how easilly awesome Wall's 4th SAT test was after he flunked with a dramatic flare his first 3 sat/psats))€~

Actually, sutton, I would be extremely dissapointed with our boys if we turn the ball over 23 times. I agree, there will be a "gelling" period with these guys, but with an established senior point gaurd and center(junior), I would be extremely dissapointed if we turn the ball over more than 15-17 times. 23 times is unacceptable and shows a lack of maturity in many facets of the game, which is how I would desribe any team led by a group of freshmen(UK).

Yeah I could see where you're coming from...I would be disappointed for sure but I dont think I would be too surprised...Im more interested in how our guards play since there is no match for our bigs in this game. Xavier needs to play well and give us fans a chance to support him for his numbers and not for his recruit ranking last year...I support him but I want numbers to back that up.

Jayhawkerjoel,
Great comment about Uncle Roy. What you said is so true. I truly believe, aside from a few other important people such as James Naismith & Wilt Chamberlain, Uncle Roy's heart was one of the best things that ever happened to Lawrence Kansas.
That said... thank God he moved on.... I don't know if I could handle any more tears & having to explain it to my friends in New York how our coach "cares".... sometimes that explanation could take up our entire week of vacation!
Truth be told, my New York City buddies are now firm Jayhawk supporters who could've cared less about college basketball before I brainwashed them into watching Michael Lee get his shot swatted by one of their local college players (I must say, I still wonder why Uncle Roy didn't have a better inbounds play with a full second to go, after the swat, heck Kirk didn't have to catch it at 19.9 feet with two defenders in his face, we all know Kirk could easily hit a 30 footer better than a guarded 19.9 one... but I digress).
Needless to say after my explosion on the TV that night, my New York buddies quickly became a fan of Bill Self...
"He doesn't cry & he's a good coach!"
Back to the point at hand -- what Uncle Roy gave to Naismith Campus:
Aside from bringing in the local Kansas colleges for great community building, I see Uncle Roy's 15 years worth of precious non-John Calipari type gifts to the University of Kansas in a miriad of ways. Here are just a few off the top of my head, starting from least important to greatest:
6. Dec 1989 game at Allen Field House against Rick Pitino, Billy Donovan & Tubby Smith's "Wildcats". Don't remember the score offhand, but I do remember a very special bird from the guy who made a baby in the restroom years later... After a few f bombs were dropped, I remember we won quite handly. I can remember looking up at the scoreboard with a couple minutes to go until a break thinking, "We might just score a hundred... by halftime!"
5. Putting the name on the court that has always been deserving (we all must keep in mind not only Fieldhouse was originally slated to be named after him, that's where the first few dollars came from, but also the Basketball Hall of Fame was planned for Lawrence, by the inventor's request. Then he died & Springfield got it's mojo back & changed the location). Long live "James Naismith Court"! Thank you Uncle Roy.
4. 2008 Final Four. Thank you Uncle.
3. 2008 Champioship game with Larry up in the crowd to boot. Uncle proudly wearing "the sticker". He will always be a fan fave after that one. Thank you again, Uncle Roy for standing up for what's right, even after a severe beat down of Tyler Hansborough (who was slated to be a Jayhawk until Uncle Roy gave into the need to rebuild his alma mater from ashes, which is a side "thanks Uncle" that Tyler never became a Jayhawk)
2. Bill Self!!!
1. Lastly.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bbxrze...
Thanks again Uncle Roy!

Jaybate - Nice analysis. Further clarification tho - Wall and Rose are the same height. As you mentioned, and 100 also, I agree there are likely plenty of other similarities in their games.
Personally, I'm looking forward to a UT - UK match-up. Bradley was considered by many outside of KY to be the best HS player last year, and a beast on D. The fact that uK is spinning the media wheel so much for Wall and "the best recruiting class ever" makes me worried for the Big 12 and excited as well. Bradley, Hamilton & UT should be plenty motivated, and IMO KU's class of '09 (including CJ & Withey) is even better than uK's. So was the 4 x 5* class of '05, even if Downs flamed out here.

100, thanks for the kind words and adopting my term of endearment for ole Uncle Roy.
The mangy blue felines of corruption-hoops-U have many hurdles to overcome this year. They are ALL new to the Calisleazy dribble drive offense and will never man up defensively as preached by the truth, HCBS. It will take that team at least 2 years before they could be in Final Four contention. That also assumes everyone stays.
We will know a lot more after Calisleazy actually has to compete against a BCS caliber league and not some pitiful mid-major pretender conference. Remember how Calisleazy lost to Tennessee at home in 2008! There will be a lot more of that in 2010 and beyond for the mangy blue felines.
Go Hawks – got the TV set for 7:00 already.

What a great accomplishment - savor the moment C&C. I had no idea Cole had such a wicked sense of humor. I have read about it but now I have proof. The dude looks like nothing but business on the floor, who would have thunk it.

Ky_Cats is an idiot. It's insane to talk about how great a player is until he has some college games under his belt. A lot of factors go into how well a player performs--quality of his own team, quality of the opposition, injuries, emotional issues, ability to handle the pressure of expectations, conditioning and temptations (alcohol, marijuana, girlfriends, etc.) affect a player's game. Wall may be a great player, but until he proves it, there is no way of knowing for sure. I'd rather pin my hopes on a TEAM like KU than on a player.
