KU swimmer places 19th; diver takes 17th


— Kansas University swimmer Maria Mayrovich placed 19th in the preliminaries of the 100 yard freestyle Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Mayrovich touched the wall in a time of 48.51 seconds, just 0.06 seconds off of her career-best time. She also narrowly missed the finals by 0.09 seconds.

KU’s Erin Mertz placed 17th in the platform diving competition.

Mertz, an All-American on the one-meter board, scored 229.15 points, which was less than 10 points off of a season-best score.
