Devens, Mass. — Kansas University senior Emily Powers fired a two-over par 74 in the first round of stroke play qualifying at the 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship on Monday at Red Tail Golf Club. The Quincy, Ill. native is tied for 28th place after the first of two qualifying rounds. After today’s second round, the low 64 scorers will advance to match play beginning on Wednesday. First-round leader Lizette Salas shot 68.
