Assists Foundation announces first awards

Over 20 foursomes, one of which included Kansas head basketball coach Bill Self, took to Eagle Bend golf course Friday afternoon to raise money for the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Dept. scholarship fund.

Bill Self’s Assists Foundation has announced its first round of grant and scholarship recipients. Five organizations were each awarded a $3,000 grant, and four high school seniors were selected to receive a $2,500 scholarship per year, up to four years, to aid in their education.

The recipients of the 2009 Assists Foundation grants are: Kansas Action for Healthy Kids, Called to Greatness, Giving Resources for Adolescent Development and Enrichment Foundation, Lawrence Public Library and Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation.

The Assists Foundation Charitable Contributions Committee selected the following students for scholarships: Alyssa Boyce, K.C. Sumner; Tawana Evans, K.C. Wyandotte; Kara Lowe, K.C. Harmon; and Phenglao Vang, K.C. Washington.

Sounds like there's a mission for you "KeithMiles"... you can start a fund-raiser for the "the rest of the state."
Why can't folks just be happy when good deeds are done? Someone is always going to be left out because there are limited resources. Some complain, some do... very happy Bill Self does what he can for his community.
