Former Jayhawk Morrison named to all-star team

Former Kansas University baseball player Erik Morrison was named to the South Atlantic League All-Star team this week.

Morrison, who plays for the Hickory (N.C.) Crawdads, the Single-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, is hitting .345 with a 1.025 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage). He has five home runs and 26 RBI.

Morrison played shortstop and third base in his days at KU, but has recently switched to first base for Hickory. He leads all SAL league first basemen with his .345 average. His .412 on-base percentage leads the team.

The All-Star Game is scheduled for June 23 at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, W. Va.
