KU football picked No. 21 by Lindy’s

The Kansas University football team has been ranked No. 21 in the Lindy's preseason poll.

The magazine also picked the Jayhawks, who return most of their key players from last season's 8-5 team, to earn their first outright Big 12 North title in school history.

Junior receiver Dezmon Briscoe and senior safety Darrell Stuckey, meanwhile, were named to the publication's all-Big 12 first-team.

Four other Big 12 schools earned preseason top 25 recognition, including Texas (No. 2), Oklahoma (No. 3), Oklahoma State (No. 10) and Nebraska (No. 22). Florida was picked as the magazine's No. 1 team.

Lindy's has been around a while...maybe not as long as Athlon.

This makes a hell of a lot more sense than that other mag that picked us to finish 4th in the north.

Ranking schmanking.

KU is ready for the next step. Now they should only be worrying about winning the north, and maybe about beating Oklahoma at home.

They've squashed the Nebraska hex. They've left K-State, Colorado, and now Missouri behind. They need to beat Oklahoma (and Nebraska) at home, and play for the Big 12 Championship. I don't really care if they are ranked 21st or 121st, if they can just do that.

The preseason rankings are worthless. Two years ago we were nowhere near the top 25 and then we rose all the way to #2 and won the Orange Bowl. Last year we were ranked early and then fell out and never got back in.

I'm with KG, we need to win the big games and forget about the rankings.

Last year we lost all of our big games except for Mizzou. South Florida, OU, TTU, Texas, and Nebraska. And winning the Insight Bowl was nice, but lets not kid ourselves; beating Minnesota was no big accomplishment.

Beating KSU and MU made the season a success, but beating OU would have made it special.

I agree with plasticJhawk. The thing I keep reminding myself (to temper my excitement about this team) is that KU won only ONE true conference road game last season....barely squeaking by ISU. This year we get to go to KSU (who will be worse than ISU last year, but are supposedly our in-state "rival"), to CU, to TTU, to Texas and as a bonus we get to go to UTEP (West Texas is a strange place....even mighty Texas struggled at UTEP early before pulling away late last year).

That's going to be a very tough road to travel (pun intended).

rivethead, agreed, the sun bowl is like the hilton coliseum of College Football, if you want to win there you need to be on your A game!!

If I am not mistaken, Lindy’s is loosely named after an acrobatic and seemingly impossible diving feat pulled off by Tall and Fat clothing store owner Thornton Melon in the movie “Back to School.”

yes! excellent Back to School reference, tx...

Touché, bmcmich1! That's a dandy. One of my favorite Dangerfield one-liners is:

"I'm so slow it takes me an hour and a half to watch 60 Minutes."

Agreed, Rickyonealku. The era in which our football team was rarely on TV is still firmly etched in my mind. Although we have a long way to go to get where we want our program to be, we have already come a LONG way.

To txrockchalk

I believe that was the Coup de gras "triple Lindy" pulled off by Thornton Melon. What a great comic........a little sparring by Al Czervik "Rodney" and Tony D Annunzio "Scott Colomby" from Caddyshack: Czervik... "Hey, Sabu, you know how to make a Bullshot"? Annunzio..... "Do you know how to make a shoe smell"? Good stuff......anywho, Rockchalk, take the North this year Baby!!!!

Rankings are not worth the paper they are printed on. They usually do not stay as predicted. KU should take the North this year. However, there is something that is clear..Todd "Sparky" Reesing. Todd will likely finish this season as perhaps the "Greatest KU QB Ever". Yet he will not even get a sniff from those ignorant NFL types because of his size. That is just stupid! Mel Kiper will tell you he has all the skills you look for in an NFL QB, great decisions, great instincts and he is...lets face it a walking highlight film. However, according to Mel Kiper he does not posses the arm strength or size to make it in the NFL. Hey Mel, look at this stats against top level competition and get back to me. For example how many players from Oklahoma or Texas will end up in the NFL, yet he makes the plays against them. How many from Missouri? And then ask Missouri how last year's game tasted. Oh, and by the way its not a new trend for Mr. Reesing. Check out his HS stats from Lake Travis HS in Austin Texas! That's right against Texas HS competition which is suppose to be the best in the country! Then get back to me. The guy wins at every level. Ryan Leaf had the perfect build, arm strength etc. Isn't he working at ACE hardware now? How many times have KU fans, ESPN etc..said I can't believe he just did that? No doubt Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy are great QB's but does anyone really think that Todd Reesing had the same tools to work with when he turned KU around..honestly. Oklahoma and Texas have All-Americans on their bench. Yet despite his lack of size, frankly KU's lack of competitive talent when he took over..look at Reesing's record and stats and they are very, very competitive. It just a fact. So the fact the NFL will be too stupid, and I do mean too stupid to take a chance on him makes me not really care about even my own NFL team. The guy can play. He goes down as not just as "The Man" at KU. He is, always will be one the greatest Big 12 QB ever. End of story. Right there with Sam B., Colt B., Vince Y. etc. Think not..how were we doing before? Now with Reesing we have an Orange Bowl Title, and our first back to back bowl seasons. Who has meant more to any team in the country? Someone ought to tell him he is not suppose to be this good. Now when we win the North, there will still be some dumb excuse why he cannot do it. Funny...he never got that message. He won the starting QB job in HS at Lake Travis, and if stunk..do you honestly think they would not have pulled him right away. I mean it was TX HS football after all. Instead he just killed everybody. Now at KU he unseats a highly recruited QB and may be the "Greatest" of all time at KU..but of course he would not make it in the NFL

good points Rigg.. Doug Flutie didn't get a sniff either. Well a little at the end of his career. I think Todd will be ok in whatever he does...

Drew Alan 10 years, 7 months ago

Todd has already said that he doesn't want to be an NFL quarterback... that won't win him a job.
