Blankenship, Heere all-star selections

? Kansas University baseball players Travis Blankenship and Brian Heere were selected to participate in the Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association vs. Pacific West Coast Conference All-Star game, set for 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Palm Springs Stadium.

Both Lawrence products are members of the Palm Springs Power, a summer collegiate baseball team, which currently leads the So. Cal. Collegiate Baseball Association with a 33-7 record.

Blankenship, a left-handed pitcher from Free State High, is 7-0 on the mound with an 0.49 earned-run average and 46 strikeouts in 37 innings out of the bullpen this summer. The 6-foot lefty has allowed just 29 baserunners, while opponents are batting just .191 against him. His seven victories lead the Power.

Heere, an outfielder from Lawrence High, is batting .337 with 12 stolen bases, three doubles, three triples and 27 runs scored in 26 games this summer. The Kansas sophomore also has 12 RBIs and has struck out just six times, compared to 17 walks for a .452 on-base percentage.
