Belgrade, Serbia Kansas University senior Danielle McCray turned in her second straight double-digit performance with 12 points as the 2009 USA Women’s World University Games Team (3-0) routed Serbia, 84-50, on Friday evening.
The U.S. held Serbia to just 36 points in the final three quarters and 36.7 shooting from the field overall.
“We were really excited to play Serbia,” said McCray, an Olathe native. “Coach (Charli Turner Thorne) gave us a good talk about how much this game mattered to us, and I think it just us fired up.”
McCray, who again earned a nod in the starting lineup, knocked down three of six shots from the floor and all five of her attempts from the free-throw line. She also recorded three rebounds while logging just 13 minutes in the easy victory for the United States.
The USA will advance to the second round as Group A’s No. 1 seed.
