? USA Basketball’s Under 19 men’s basketball team didn’t need the services of Kansas University’s Tyshawn Taylor in a 112-55 drilling of Egypt on Saturday at the FIBA Under 19 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.

Taylor, KU’s sophomore combo guard from New Jersey, sat out the action because of a bout with the flu.

“He came down with it yesterday. He had a fever and was not feeling well, so he sat out the game,” USA Basketball’s Craig Miller said. “Obviously we didn’t need him today. We don’t play tomorrow, so I think everybody thought it’d be a good idea to give him an extra day off,” Miller added.

“Tyshawn was at the game, but not feeling great. Hopefully he’ll be back for our next game.”

The U.S. led by 22 after one quarter and 38 by halftime. The U.S. was led by Ashton Gibbs (18 points, six assists) and Shelvin Mack (14 points, four assists. John Shurna had 13 points, while Howard Thompson and Terrico White each had 13 points for the U.S. (3-0).

The U.S. has qualified for the second round. The U.S. placed first in Group B. The top three from Group B will face the top three teams from Group A — likely to be Puerto Rico, Lithuania and Greece — on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
