Stephenson picks Cincinnati

— Lance Stephenson finally has found a college he can call home.

The 6-foot-5 high school basketball sensation from Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Lincoln High, on Tuesday signed a financial aid agreement with the University of Cincinnati.

“We are very excited about Lance’s decision to become a Bearcat,” Cincy head coach Mick Cronin said. “Lance has terrific talent as a basketball player and is also a fierce competitor on the court. His desire to win will help us compete for a Big East Championship.”

Stephenson at one point favored Kansas University. He also considered St. John’s, Maryland, Memphis and Arizona. KU dropped him as a recruit after receiving an April commitment from Xavier Henry.

Various of his other finalists also dropped him, either because of his pending court date over an assault charge or questions about his eligibility.

This isn't the last of Lance. He's got staying power. Too bad there wasn't room for him too.

What a shame! This kid has so much talent but surrounded by so much mess. I can't believe he lands in Cinci !!

Good Luck Lance!

Can we go with a swap....

X for Lance???

Not doubting X's talent, just his ability to cope with the scrutiny of big time college basketball...

Good for Lance. I feel bad about how the KU situation turned out for him. I hope he doesn't get into any trouble about the Lance TV thing. Good for Cincy, we may see them in the tourny again.

I'm glad we got X and CJ, I think we got the best players. Good luck to Lance though and hopefully this signing doesn't come back to bite Cincy in the butt. There's a lot of questions surrounding Stephenson as a person and his status as an amateur.

Good for him. I kind of wish we had him. We'll see how this turns out for everyone in the next year or two...
