— Kansas University’s women’s basketball team overcame a 12-point deficit, but the Jayhawks eventually fell to Colorado, 69-62, on Wednesday at Coors Events Center.

KU (13-11 overall, 2-9 Big 12) got off to a lousy start, scoring just two points in the first five minutes.

The Jayhawks trailed by as many as 12 before rallying within a point at 23-22. They trailed, 31-28, at the half.

Kansas tied it at 42 and took its first lead at 50-48 on a three-pointer by Nicollette Smith with 8:53 to play. The Jayhawks led by as many as four several times before CU (11-12, 3-8) took the lead for good at 62-60 on a pair of free throws by Kara Richards with 1:33 to go.

Colorado hit seven of nine free throws down the stretch to hold off the Jayhawks.

Smith led the Jayhawks with 15 points. Krysten Boogaard chipped in 13 points, Danielle McCray added 11 and Sade Morris contributed 10.

LaChelda Jacobs led the Jayhawks with a career-high 10 rebounds.

Kansas will play host to Iowa State on Sunday.

nj - You really need to take up a hobby, as there has to be something more productive for you to do than getting up at 5 in the morning after every game just to spout off what has become a very repetitive line.

Bonnie has to be on the hot seat. She's a nice enough person and does a good job intereacting with the community--particularly youth girls basketball development. But her record speaks for itself. Either she can't recruit to Lawrence or she can't coach up the players she gets. Either way, it's not a winning recipe. Women's college basketball is growing in popularity every year. KU can't afford to have such a mediocre program.

Men's football and basketball and Women's basketball are the "front porch" of any university. You might say "Two out of three ain't bad." But we need all three to be clicking at the same time!

Or two guards go down, which lead to a lack of depth, which force a change in strategy...

it"s the bigggg twelve!!!!! Two wins, last place in the conference. I guess it is okay for nice white ladies to steal money. Bonnie is an extremely nice person. But that is not good enough. The LJ World, supports this trash.

(see headline-Jayhawks come up just short) This is a headline if you are OU, or Rutgers, or Duke, or Tenn. Not when the team will finish under five hundred, with a schedule fullied cupcakes that will make anyone a diabetic.

Mediocre is an understatement. This team could not win in the Missouri Valley Conference either. Two good wins, versus Iowa and against Missouri at home.

The team is "McCray and the Losers"--not the Jayhawks. Lew, if you mean what you said about having Top 25 team in every sport then she must go.

I could make a better team out of the Girls and the Jayhawk Invitational high school tourney last month at Robinson Gym.

Catic should not even be on this team. We recruited her from overseas! (She was not worth the international plane ticket, passport, and VISA) She must be on a Tourism VISA because she has not studied (I-20) what Coach is teaching!!!!! Boogard has good size, but cannot walk a chew gum at the same time.
