Orlando, Fla — Kansas University pitcher Val George threw a one-hitter over the full five innings as Kansas University’s softball team finished the UCF Early Bird Tournament on Sunday with a 9-0, run-rule-shortened rout of Bowling Green.

George (3-3) struck out seven. She was backed by nine hits, including four doubles.

The Jayhawks (4-5) scored three runs in the first three innings before pulling away with five runs on four hits in the top of fourth.

Junior Amanda Jobe started the fourth off with a single through the right side and was immediately brought home off an RBI double from sophomore Liz Kocon. Kocon advanced to third after an illegal pitch by the Falcons, and junior Sara Ramirez drew a walk and sophomore Kolby Fesmire drew walks.

Senior Stevie Crisosto doubled down the right-field line to drive in Kocon and Ramirez.

Dougie McCaulley, also a senior, scored Fesmire with an RBI single up the middle. Before the inning was over, McCaulley worked her way to third base and eventually scored, taking advantage of a wild pitch by Bowling Green.

McCaulley led the Jayhawks with a 3-for-3 outing at the plate and added three runs and two RBIs. Kocon was 2-for-2.

KU will travel Thursday to the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
