Band Day to skip parade this year

Bands from 25 Kansas high schools will converge on Memorial Stadium Sept. 26 for Kansas University’s football game against Southern Mississippi.

Because of the game’s 11 a.m. kickoff set by Fox Sports Net, there will be no parade. Bands will gather at 8 a.m. to practice for the halftime show.

The game will be nationally televised. Fans may take a shuttle bus from downtown to football games, with buses leaving from the Riverfront and New Hampshire Street parking garages, where parking is free on game days. A round-trip ride costs $1.

Apparently Lew is unable to generate money from the parade.

I remember going to KU Band Day in 1976 when Nolan Cromwell was the Quarterback. His hometown (Ransom High) marched in the parade and then went to the stadium. It was the hottest day of the year and members of other bands were dropping like flies. It was a long hot day and a long bumpy bus trip, but it was worth it.
I hope KU has another successful football season and will go to another bowl game.
