Kansas University has set up a Sept. 14 in-home recruiting visit with Adreian Payne, a 6-foot-10 senior center from Jefferson High in Dayton, Ohio, according to Rivals.com.

Payne, who is Rivals.com’s No. 20-rated player has a final five of KU, Kentucky, Michigan State, Arizona and West Virginia.

That's great.

Speaking of KU competing with Calipari again, the UK fans have crashed the ESPN website -- overloading votes for Patterson & Wall (who isn't elgible) for preseason player of the year.

If you have a minute vote for Sherron & Cole. You have to vote for five, so leave their inelgible player off the list if you can help it.

mjlindsm, You're up kind'a late to be so serious. I was quoting Jeff Spicoli (out of context of course, he was talking about other surfers who were his betters actually, and I didn't intended to go that far with my comment.) I'm really not a mean poster but you must be really uptight if you can't let a little put down of our excellent competition slide. P.S. Your political comments are really what this message board is for.

PLEASE tell me this kid has a good nickname - that spelling of his first name is brutal.

Derek Conway 10 years, 5 months ago

Landing this kid would be huge! Payne would be the next great jayhawk center.

Joe Ross 10 years, 5 months ago

This Payne kid would fit Kansas like a hand in a glove...

There is a local bike ride affectionately (massochistically speaking) referred to as the House of Pain. He'd need to play pretty good before it'd be reasonable to refer to the Fieldhouse that way.

Some people can be a real pain in the ***. Hopefully, Adreian can become a real Payne in the lane.

Others?

I havent heard of Payne setting up any other in home visits besides KU yet so this is a very telling sign...I have not heard anything real definitive about him other than there is a really good chance we could get him which will help us out in recruiting guards like Deron Lamb because they will know that they have a talented big to get the ball to...KU really needs a big man out of this recruiting class and I think Payne is going to be the man.

Tony Bandle 10 years, 5 months ago

Let's see...Kentucky dribble-drive orientated, Michigan State goon ball, Arizona post Lute won't be cute, West Virginia...can anybody name the state capitol of West Virginia?

Kansas history of big men is both long and impressive. Coach Self and Coach Manning rock!! 2010 team to be loaded with ball handlers and drivers just dying to pass off to a big guy who will have a 7'-0' twin tower to keep him company.

The first name is problematic. Nickname is critical:

No gain, no Payne AD 'The Main Man" Payne Bloodstain Payne "The Rain" Payne The Paynisher Payne Man Playing in Payne Feel Our Payne Payned in Full

C'mon Jaybate, you love this stuff!!!!!!!

KanKu 10 years, 5 months ago

100- I went to ESPN.com, and put in the proper rankings of Cole 1st, then Sherron 2nd (with Scottie Reynolds and Kalin Lucas afterword).

Oops! I left off the 2 Kentucky buttholes.....

Chezlog, get outa here with that garbage. Just a suspision but you may be a muzzy fan...... Possibly propaganda, possibly your a turd.

Regarding constellation names (and in a more reverent vein): Adreian is supposed to have jumps and he's big and fast. There's always Pegasus Payne. Pegasus means Winged Horse. Horses are big and fast. And with wings they are excellent jumpers. :-)

Big Payne on the glass.

Could rename AFH to House of Payne.

pnose1000 10 years, 5 months ago

Sounds like Mr. Payne would be a good addition. After doing some research on his current skillset, it's plain that Payne reigns mainly in the paint.

KGphoto 10 years, 5 months ago

I like a lot of these, but really get a laugh out of a few of the bonks. A few from the bonk/Pitino list. (Pitino being disgusting)

Big Drain Payne -that's just oozing with foulness, but funny.

Feel our Payne -sounds too much like a peeper in the kiddie park.

Bloodstain Payne -probably not anything with stain in it.

kupark had a nice submission.

Self-inflicted Payne - i get the double dip, but I keep envisioning him wearing a foam helmet, upper body padding and a harness, desperately trying to score some chocolate. Or maybe with a patch over his eye and a cork on his fork.

House of Payne -not so much funny, but blasphemous. you know this.

Okay, some keepers.

Citizen Payne -classic. easily the winner. i can already hear another mysterious AFH chant. every time payne comes into the game or makes a play, the crowd whispers... "rosebud". that'll keep em guessing.

Major Payne -duh. it's even spelled right. wish i'd thought of that one. it was right there in front of my face.

Prediction? Paaaaaayne!! (in your best Mr. T voice) -okay not a nickname, but another cool chant for sure.

jaybate's best

Pulmonary Payne -i know it was a joke, but it's kinda catchy. gets the heart racing and rolls nicely off the tongue. plus it has a great beat and i can really dance to it. i give it about an 8.

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

Oh, I say, pnose1000,

What you meant to say was:

"It's plain that Payne reigns mainly in the lane."

Good show, old chap, good show!

Best regards, Professor 'enry 'iggins

KGphoto 10 years, 5 months ago

Now that's a T-shirt!

Wait. Are we getting a little ahead of ourselves?

He still needs to turn down KY, where he would mainly reign in vain. Arizona, where there is plainly no reign. Also State and WV who's coaches remain insane.

pnose1000 10 years, 5 months ago

Professor 'enry 'iggins,

Re: substituting "lane" for "paint."

Much better; don't know 'ow I missed it.
