Wichita prep Perry Ellis to visit Memphis

Wichita Heights High School sophomore forward Perry Ellis, who attended Kansas University’s Late Night in the Phog last year, has decided to attend Midnight Madness at Memphis on Oct. 16, his mom said via e-mail Tuesday.

Perry’s sister, Savannah, is a junior center at Memphis and will be participating in the Tigers’ Midnight Madness festivities. Perry has decided to head to Memphis to support his sister.

The 6-foot-8 Ellis has attended several games at KU and has KU on his list along with Kentucky, Memphis and North Carolina.

Perry is a great kid, only a sophmore -- he'll have two more years to attend late night in the Phog.

Rock Chalk, Perry -- best of luck next year.

Brad Avery 10 years, 5 months ago

An unfortunate byproduct of the women's program to recruit good Kansas players. Savannah was an excellent player from Wichita.

Aligned 10 years, 5 months ago

It's all good. As a sophmore, I'd say his timing will be about right to lead the charge for Bill Self's 3rd National Championship.

Tony Bandle 10 years, 5 months ago

Not to worry...his sister will be long gone from Memphis by the time he is ready to go to school. Just shows what a good kid and a good brother he is.

Maybe his sister will want to stay in the sport and Bonnie can use another grad assistant????

westwoodjayhawk 10 years, 5 months ago

I wouldn't be too concerned about Memphis and recruits. They really had nothing to offer prior to the used car salesman coaching there, and they have nothing to offer now that he is gone. They will become just one more "also ran" in their conference.

swunruh 10 years, 5 months ago

I'll bet Perry won't be making any visit to coach Pitino and Louisville....and most other recruits won't be either.

Joe Baker 10 years, 5 months ago

Little off this story but does anyone know if LaBryan Nash is related to former KU forward Bryant Nash?

LaBryan is from Dallas, Cedar Hill or Lincoln HS and Bryant was from Carrollton, Texas Turner HS

just curious if there was a relationship

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

I want Perry Ellis to choose KU, because I am still sick about losing out on X McDaniel. KU deserveth the best the state hath to offer.

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

Man, I tend to use Firefox with No Script, which virtually eliminates all the crapacious advertizing on this site. I just used IE to gauge the difference in experience. It is night and day. The web site looks like a video arcade with naked IE. It looks like a very civilized place with Firefox with No Script. The only downside is I miss out on all the bimbo cleavage ads. :-(

Tony Bandle 10 years, 5 months ago

swunruh

Exactly... especially if their mothers have anything to say about it!!

angusmcpherr 10 years, 5 months ago

jaybate - are you talking about Xavier McDaniel who played for Wichita State 25 years ago?? He was from Columbia, South Carolina.

kansaspike 10 years, 5 months ago

Seriously.....what the F is Roy doing recruiting in Kansas?

GET OUT!

Joe Ross 10 years, 5 months ago

yes truehawk...

they were married! lol.

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

angusmcpherr,

You made my day! Here I have been bitter all these years without need. And you know what? Now that you mention it, I think someone else gave me a wake up on this a year or so ago and I slipped back into the old recollection. Early on-set dementia.

By the way, it is good to have a Scot aboard descended from the Eustaces of Clay County Kansas and the Burnets of Vermont. Any man who's father used gee and haw on the farm is a friend of mine and "exetra" drives me mad, also. Enjoy yer porridge and be thrifty, but that picture of the man with the finger through eye is pretty repulsive to look at when I turn my box on in the morn. ;-)

Robin Smith 10 years, 5 months ago

I think Ellis will choose KU ultimately, but Memphis is going to continue to be good. They've already got some good recruits coming in for next year so don't count on them returning to their pre-Calapari form anytime soon.

Eric Williams 10 years, 5 months ago

I played basketball at Wichita Heights, I just hope Coach Auer doesn't limit his potential too much.

The sad thing is Perry is so good, he will make Auer look like a decent coach.

Joe Baker 10 years, 5 months ago

Perry knows there's no place like home!!

I say Perry will wear the crimson and the blue in the end.

The UK hillbillies are sure dreaming hard for him to consider UK. Roy left Kansas and is now returning for this recruit? I'd think twice about both of these coaches before leaving home. There is no other HCBS and there is no better place to play b-ball than KU.

JayhawkCasey 10 years, 5 months ago

anthonyzal, Are you for real? "We just can't measure up w/ the tradition rich schools like UNC, Duke, Memphis, and USC." One could argue that we are just as tradition rich as UNC and Duke, but one thing is for certain Memphis and USC are not even close to KU. I see a lot of ridiculous comments on this site, but that was probably the most absurd I have ever seen. You must be a poser.

Joel Hood 10 years, 5 months ago

anthonyzal, Surely you're trolling - right?!? What type of asinine responses were you hoping to elicit with that stink bait?

Gil Ek 10 years, 5 months ago

WHAT???????? ((( "I know that we just can't measure up w/ the tradition rich schools like UNC, Duke, Memphis and USC. ")))

goshenjhawk 10 years, 5 months ago

anthonyzal, Seriously, that was one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever read on this site. Go play with the Antlers -- you are definitely a poser!

Kent Wells 10 years, 5 months ago

This is a lot like his "Pacific Northwest - Too cloudy" comment over at:

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2009/aug/08/ku-basketball-makes-offer-portland-native

Just laugh and move on... Otherwise, he started quite a fued over on that post...

Now, lets get this kid onboard!

Jaybate: Use IE, otherwise you miss that blonde hottie. It type to hard with there that screen. Too bad the button doesn't say "Tap it" instead of "Play"

Tony Bandle 10 years, 5 months ago

Far be it from me to judge so I will only observe, but I do believe anthonyzal has had more posts rejected by LJW then any poster in recent memory. Given the somewhat lenient attitude to our comments, I find it interesting to see this tend.

I see what you are trying to say, but AZ, you need to understand that to be bigtime you have to recruit bigtime. You set your sights for the fives, so if you do fall short, the fours and threes are there. I know it apears to be a waste of time but you've got to continually show each class that KU is a "Player" on the national recruiting scene. And, yes if you shoot for a dozen five stars and get one, so be it.

Tradtion Rich- Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Duke, UCLA, Indiana......period!!

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

Oh, I say, OakvilleJHawk, old chap, KU is aristocracy.

Kentucky and North Carolina are old money.

Duke, UCLA and Indiana are new money.

One lump or two in your tea, my good man?

Rick Arnoldy 10 years, 5 months ago

Indiana "new money"? Their championships date back to the 40s and 50s. If anything, they might have lost their luster over that last couple decades. I expect Coach Crean to bring them back, however.

anthonyzal has to be about 14 years old if he thinks USC and Memphis are tradition rich. Either that or the worst troll on these boards ever.

Joel Hood 10 years, 5 months ago

UCLA... nouveau riche??? That is debatable, old bean.

I prefer three lumps - please don't think me gauche.

Chris Shaw 10 years, 5 months ago

ohioburg: Indiana's championships date back to the 40's and 50's? Really? Let's see, they have 5 championships total and 3 of them were in the 70's 80's (76,81,87). You are right they had two championships in the 40's and 50's in 1940 and 1953, but a majority of their championships happened in the 70's and 80's.

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

ohioburg,

Come, come, Kansas won its first in 1922. The Hoosiers are but new lads on the block.

jayhawkerjoel,

Pish, pish, my good man. UCLA didn't even exist in 1922. There were still bean fields around Westwood in 1952. And the bloody wogs didn't even get their first national championship until the 1960s. UCLA? Why all of Pauley couldn't even hold our student section. They're only finally expanding that frog pond now, in 2009. When was AFH propped up? 1957? And you say they are not Johnny Come Lately's?

Kent Wells 10 years, 5 months ago

It's a simple argument based on wins. KU, KY, and UNC. Anyone else are chasers. Wannabes.

Going 6-0 (or 4-0) doesn't equate to a winning tradition. It just equates to winning. 3 NCs in 11 years (Indiana) is a great run. It does not equate to decades of 20 win seasons that establish a winning tradition.

Tony Bandle 10 years, 5 months ago

Jaybate..give me the whole damn sugar bowl!!!!

Points well taken although UNC may be closer to aristocracy than old money.

Spans between Final Four Appearances.

Kansas: 1940-2008......69 years UNC: 1946-2009..........64 years KY: 1942-1998............57 years Indiana: 1940-1987......48 years UCLA: 1963-2007........44 years Duke: 1963-2004.........42 years

I think one measure of tradition is not only getting to the top of the mountain but getting there over the course of time, even into different centuries. Kansas appeared in the second NCAA Final Four and has appeared in the second last NCAA Final Four. That's almost seven decades. At Kansas, the Final Four is always the goal...'nuff said.

vmwskywalk 10 years, 5 months ago

Oakville...Good research. I've never looked at such a stat comparing decades.

Jolly good show!

Kent Wells 10 years, 5 months ago

Oakville: Slight correction

Kansas: 1940-2010......71 years

Tony Bandle 10 years, 5 months ago

vmwskywalk....most gracious of you.

kuwells....excellent, well played old chap!!

Jaybate, you old scoundrel...it is you who have parlayed us into 19th century vernacular. A pox on you, sir. :]

3 & 4 Star recruits? Starting 5: BRush= 5 Mario Chalmers= 5 Darrell Aurthur= 5 RussRob= 4 DJax= 4 Bench: Sasha= 4 Collins= 5 Aldrich= 5

Not to mention the fact that not on this team, but in the Chalmers/Rush class were: Julian Wright= 5 Downs= 5

What makes us KANSAS is that 4 & 5 star recruits stay for 3 & 4 years before they go on to start in the NBA; and that is after they win a NC. anthonyzal, you sock.

BTW, this years' starting 5: Collins= 5 TT= 4 X= 5 McM= 4 Cole= 5 (and the bench is all 4 talent)

Anthonzal, you can argue the order, but you cannot argue that these 6 schools are College Basketball Tradition: Kansas UNC UK UCLA Duke Indiana - UCLA and Duke and (for the most part) Indiana are nothing more than 1 coach. UK's and UNC's best coaches/ winningest coaches/ coaches with the most championships/ coaches that created their respective programs/ names of their respective arenas are Kansas boys who played basketball at Kansas for Phog Allen, who learned the game from the inventor of the game: James Naismith (the only losing coach in Kansas history). Allen just missed out on coaching Wilt Chamberlin, the greatest player of all time that changed the most rules in the game (for a player). The rules of the game were created, shaped, and molded at Kansas. Where would this game be without Kansas? Who, BTW, has the 3rd most wins, 5 NC's, 14 (I think) F4's, 52 Conference Championships, and is ranked #1 to start this upcoming season.

So I ask you, who are you? Because I'm with those guys.

Joel Hood 10 years, 5 months ago

Well-played Oakville! Although your prep school arithmetic could use some brushing up – no matter – good ciphering is rather bourgeois. That’s what the help is for.

Jaybate, point well take regarding the youthfulness of the Westwood pedigree, although the contributions of Sir Wooden certainly places said Bruins well above the recent successes of that bombastic lout, General Knight.

Chicago_JHawk 10 years, 5 months ago

I don't think most of what anthonyzal posts is meant to be taken seriously. Most of them drip with sarcasm.

Damnation, where was that arithmetic ninny when I needed him. Good help is getting harder and harder find. My formal garden is an absolute shambles and my Jayhawk Topiary looks more like a ragamuffian than a noble bird!!!

Kent Wells 10 years, 5 months ago

What the hell? Is it talk like a pirate day on kusports.com?

I think the goal of anthonyzal is to get as many post deleted as possible.

Allrighty then. Tally ho, mates.

Kent Wells 10 years, 5 months ago

Jayhawkerjoel:

I think that is way to complicated for this dingleberry.

A better example of trolling would be posting that a recruit from Portland would not be any good because it is too cloudy in the Pacific Northwest.

Tony Bandle 10 years, 5 months ago

anthonyzal

For everyone's clarification, when comparing conferences you have a point Since the Final Four started, 43 teams from the Big Ten made the Final Four while the Big Six, the Big Eight and the Big Twelve combined for 25.

Also, the Big Ten has 5 schools splitting 9 NC's vs the Big 6,8,12 has one school, KU, winning 3 NC's.

Subtract the number of Final Four appearances by Kansas and you do see a trend. You do have a point about this subject, however, there is also a trend which shows less Big Ten players make the NBA but that's another subject for another day.

Your position about Wisconsin over KU, however subjective it might be, seems somewhat misplaced, none the less, you have the right to your opinion, but Wisconsin hasn't won an NC since 1941 and have only one other appearance in 2000...not exactly an overwhelming body of work.

I do take issue with your comment "as big a KU fan as anybody". I think KU is the premium school with the potential to win almost any year and no school compares. I would say that puts you below at least one person for sure.....me.

PS Trolling means looking under bridges for big ugly creatures. :}

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

OakvilleJHawk,

Bravo, bravo, braaavo! my good man. 69 bloody years. That'll show'em. And its Bill, Bill, Bill...

YOU may talk o' Coors an' beer
When you're quartered safe out 'ere,
An' you're sent to Stables-fights an' Eldridgeshot it;
But if it comes to Big Ten slaughter
You will play your game on sugar water, 5 An' you'll kick the Missouri ass of 'im that's got it.
Now in Edmon's rotten clime,
Where Bill used to spend his time
A-settin' illegal picks and shootin' over screens,
Of all them straight-faced few 10 The finest kid I knew
Was our regimental William Our coach who saved our asses Gunga Bill.

It was "Bill! Bill! Bill!
You touped lump o' brick-dust, Gunga Bill!
Hi! slippy hitherao! 15
Okie, get it! Panee lao!
You high-foreheaded old idol, Gunga Bill!"

The uniform 'e wore
Was nothin' much before,
An' rather less than 'arf o' that be'ind, 20 For a twisty piece o' Orange rag
An' a OSU stencilled bag
Was all the field-equipment 'e could find.
When he was uh sweatin' the Okie way
In a Stillwater kind of day, 25 Where the 'eat would make your bloomin' eyebrows crawl,
Paul H shouted "Harry By!"
And ran Will till his throat were bricky-dry,
Then KU wopped 'im 'cause 'e wasn't yet a Jayhawk.

It was "Bill! Bill! Bill! 30
You 'Okie, where the mischief 'ave you been?
You blew yer knee and never made it,
And then Larry gave you a New York minute,
And you came to Lawrence as his assistant, Gunga Bill!"

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

'But when we played 'im as a player E would dot an' carry one
Till the longest day was done,
An' 'e didn't seem to know the use o' fear.
If we charged or broke or cut,
You could bet your bloomin' nut,
'E'd be waitin' at mid court near.
With 'is mussick in 'is head,
'E would defend till 'e was dead,
As we beat the Cowboy's at the wire
An' for all 'is Okie 'ide,
'E was Kansas blue deep inside
When 'e went to serve old Larry under fire!

It was "Bill! Bill! Bill!"
With Ron and Calvin bringing rain.
When the cartridges ran out,
You could 'ear the front-files shout:
"Hi! ball racks here an' Gunga Bill!"

I sha'n't forgit the night
When I dropped be'ind the fight
With an elbow where my belt-plate should 'a' been.
I was chokin' mad and cursed,
An' the man that spied me first
Was our good old willful', skillful' Gunga Bill.

'E lifted up my 'ead,
An' 'e plugged me where I bled,
An' 'e guv me 'arf-a-pint o' ade—green;
It was crawlin' an' it stunk,
But of all the drinks I've drunk,
I'm gratefullest to one from Gunga Bill.

It was "Bill! Bill! Bill!
'Ere's a Cowboy with a tear inside 'is knee;
'Ere he'da been playin' the game around here still:
For Gawd's sake, git back to Stillwater, Gunga Bill!"

'E carried himself away
To where Leonard Hamilton dooli lay,
An' an ADs ax come an' felled Ol' Leonard clean.
'An put Eddie safe inside,
A bit before ol' Henry died:
"I 'ope you liked your drink," sez Gunga Bill.
To Eddie later on
Cause now ol' Henry Iba's gone—
Where it's always triple weave and double screen;
'E'll be squattin' on the coals
Barkin' plays to pore damned souls,
An' someday be rejoined with Gunga Bill!

Bill! Bill! Bill!
You Saint Crispin-leather Gunga Bill!
Tho' KU once belted you an' flayed you,
By the livin' Gawd that made you,
You were born to be a better Hawk than me, Gunga Bill!

Mr. Kipling is smiling right now, Jaybate!!

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

anthonyzal,

Isn't it obvious why this happens? I am the lead agent in a vast global conspiracy against you. I represent a convergence of the Illuminati, the Black Jesuits, Bilderberg, the Trilateral Commission, the Rosicrucians, and assorted 32rd Order Masons out to get you and you alone. We meet secretly in an underground network of tunnels connecting seemingly abandoned Masonic Temples in major cities with the houses of the local leaders of all these organizations and we sacrifice spoonbill sturgeon on altars made of basalt and elm wood. We are all out to get you, Mr. Zal and we will, too, because we are all being directed by a race of aliens on the planet Dido orbitting the star that forms the jock strap of Orion the hunter. Frankly, the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and the remake of it, also, were intended to foreshadow your fate. There is a pod under your Barca Lounger, Mr. Zal. At this very moment, it is replicating you and soon you too will be one of us!

Actually, this isn't true.

Joel Hood 10 years, 5 months ago

Posting ridiculous comments on a message board is akin to throwing a Baby Ruth bar into a pool – is serves no purpose, other than to watch people scramble. Posing as an idiot doesn’t make one “thought provoking” – it makes one a troll.

As for attacking jaybate… you sound like a sniveling K-Stater. “Why does KU get all the attention?!? We are just as good as them – in fact we’re better! We have an Ag school and a Vet school – KU doesn’t have that! Why doesn’t ESPN pay any attention to us! We had Bob Huggins and Michael Beasley, once! Bill Snyder is coming back! Its not fair, its not fair, its not fair…(we’re just as good as them…sniff.)

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

azal,

Sometimes the patient has the best prescription, so Dr. jaybate is going to concur with you this once.

Stick to trolling.

I must, however, correct you on the following: mind-numbing drivel?

This is a redundant.

In the Venn Diagram of mind-numbing, all drivel is included within the circle for mind-numbing.

Therefore, it goes without saying that you numb minds with yours. :-)

Kent Wells 10 years, 5 months ago

Anthonyzal,

Dude; if anyone finds your posts thought provoking they are probably, like yourself, some institutionalized mental patient with internet access. Quite frankly, I find my IQ dip at least 20 points when I read one of your posts (the few that don't get blocked by the LJW).

Good luck with your thorazine treatments. Don't go out of the institution you are in without your helmet secured.

Kent Wells 10 years, 5 months ago

Ahole,

Final thought. Dr. Bate is being very generous with his free psych consulting. As with any EAP, your first three consultations are free. After, any services are your own financial responsibility.

There are clearly lingering side effects from either a Mizz or K-State education. That or you've had a lobotamy. Rock Chalk

Joel Hood 10 years, 5 months ago

Anthony,

Defend jabate? Where did you get that? I made two separate observations: 1. YOU are a troll. Trolling serves no constructive purpose.
2. YOU snivel for attention when people don’t react to your posts.

My observations were limited to only your activity. I have no interest in defending anyone on this board. I simply enjoy pointing out trolls so others don’t waste time and board space responding to inflammatory drivel. Truth be known, I ignore a lot of what jabate posts – not that it matters.

Thanks for being so concerned about my ability to acquire life, curfew, and mother. Although getting up in years, my mother is doing pretty well. I wish I could come inside and go to bed when she tells me to. I’d probably get a lot more sleep and have more patience with my own kids and those pesky children who frequent the neighborhood. Cheers.

jaybate 10 years, 5 months ago

azal,

No matter what anyone else says, there remains a conspiracy aligned against you. It includes the far right, far left and deep center. They are watching you from behind trees and they are looking in your windows. They have bugged your phone and many of the persons that you meet are plants. One satellite is entirely dedicated to mapping your scalp. There is a massive file kept on you and it resides on a hard drive buried deep in a salt cavern under Salina.

None of this is true, of course.
