Kansas University senior quarterback Todd Reesing is one of 33 college quarterbacks named to the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Watch List, the O'Brien selection committee announced Monday.
Reesing, who was a finalist for the award the past two seasons, is joined by Big 12 quarterbacks Sam Bradford (Oklahoma), Colt McCoy (Texas), Robert Griffin (Baylor), Zac Robinson (Oklahoma State) and Taylor Potts (Texas Tech) on the preseason watch list. The award is given annually to the nation's top quarterback.
Reesing enters his final season at KU as the career leader in nearly every significant passing category and finished his junior season in the top 20 nationally in passing yards per game (299.08), total offense (316.31), completions (25.31), points responsible for (16.62) and pass efficiency (148.52). He has thrown for 7,578 yards, 68 touchdowns and completed 64.2 percent of his passes for his career, meanwhile, while leading the Jayhawks to back-to-back bowl victories for the first time in school history.

That should be indicative that the talking heads think the Tech offense is pretty good regardless of who is running it. Although this is just a preliminary list, I'm sure they could have found someone who has actually started a game to round out the list. I know it hasn't done much in the past, but let's back Todd and vote for him as many times as we can. Show the nation what we think of our Lil Sparky.

Jayhawkinatl is absolutely correct! this award is a joke! Two years ago Reesing won the fan voting, yet wasn't even on the list of finalists. If I remember correctly, Mizzery's "Being Chased" Daniel made the finalist list. It is all based on the votes of sportswriters and urinalists ......er ......journalists. The same so-called "experts" who picked Kansas to finish sixth the year we went to the BCS Orange Bowl.
Vote if you want to, but it is a big waste of time! I even sent e-mails to the director of the O'Brien Award and told them that I thought their award was a joke.

What's the point of even having an official watch list?

If I remember correctly, fan voting only accounts for ten percent of the candidates score. It is based mostly on the sportswriters votes, and you know the east and west coast sportswriters aren't going to show KU any love!

Displayhawk - "The same so-called "experts" who picked Kansas to finish sixth the year we went to the BCS Orange Bowl." Where did you have us picked that year? You are a total homer if you had us picked anywhere near tied for first after the implosive year (? 4 big leads blown in the 6 losses ?) we had in '06.
That doesn't justify Todd not being a finalist over some of the others, but a chunk of that is due to respect for the program (and a lack of EZViewers or other kids toys). Reesing, and future "Todd" will get the respect they are due and more as we continue to win and build a program.
It is the reason that Potts is on the list. TTech has been putting up big #'s for most of the last decade so it is come to be expected. The rest of the country doesn't have those expectations of KU, in much the same way that mizzoo is picked so low this year. If they have no drop off with Gabbert and the other newbies, they'll get the "Potts" respect. The same will be true for us in '10.

sevenyearhawk - I like your idea. What do you think are the odds that an AD like Lew could present to a group of outsiders, such as the Orange Bowl committee, the overwhelming fan support for Todd as one indicator of the fan support for the team? It is good to have positive, enthusiastic fan support, even if it isn't always immediately obvious.

Of course the award is a joke. It's an "award". Somebody is making some chingin' change every time we talk about it. Davey Obrien?
Davey F'n Obrien?!!
WTF did he do? TCU won games on defense. Reesing has completed more passes, won more games, raised the bar higher, moved a program further, got the fans standing taller, than Sammy Baugh's backup could ever have dreamed.
RIP Davey. But Todd Reesing should BE the award. Todd is why the NCAA is inspired to give these things out. Todd breaks the mold. Taylor Potts is being poured into one.

Dagger, I know better than to make predictions, but I thought we would be better than what the sportswriters predicted for us that year, because of all those close losses that you mentioned. My contention is that the fan voting for this award counts for so little, and that the so-called experts don't know any more than we do. The publicity for the program would be minimal unless Todd Reesing actually won the award. Nobody remembers five years down the line who finished second.
