Iowa City, Iowa Kansas University freshman Zac Elgie went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, and Tony Thompson hit his team-leading ninth homer of the season as the KU baseball team completed a two-game sweep of Iowa with a 9-3 victory Wednesday at Duane Banks Field.
Kansas (20-12) used a three-run first inning and some late offense to earn its 16th nonconference win. Iowa fell to 11-17.
KU staked starting pitcher Brett Bollman to a lead in the top of the first as Elgie singled in two runs with the bases loaded. The Jayhawks tacked on another run in the frame on a throwing error on a steal attempt.
Heere collected two hits in three at-bats.
KU will play host to Oklahoma State this weekend.
The teams will open the set at 6 p.m. Friday at Hoglund Ballpark.
