North Carolina natives haven’t forgotten the athletic accomplishments of Danny Manning, who led Greensboro (N.C.) Page High School to a large class state championship back in 1983.

Manning, who won national titles at Kansas University as both a player (1988) and assistant coach (2008), on Monday will be inducted into the Guilford (N.C.) County Sports Hall of Fame.

The 6-foot-11 Manning averaged 18.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game his junior year in leading Page to a perfect 26-0 record. He led Lawrence High to a 22-2 record and state runner-up finish his senior campaign.

Manning on Nov. 23 will be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City, Mo.

¢ In-home visit: KU coach Bill Self, as well as assistants Manning and Joe Dooley, on Tuesday visited the home of the country’s top-rated player – point guard John Wall of Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C.

The 6-4 Wall, who will make an official trip to KU this weekend, is considering KU, Baylor, Kentucky, Memphis, Oregon, North Carolina State and Oklahoma State.

“I had some questions and coach Self said some things that I will remember when it’s time for me to decide,” Wall told Rivals.com.

Baylor recently hired Wall’s AAU coach, Dwon Clifton, as Bears’ director of player development.

Thomas Robinson, a 6-8 forward from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., also will make an official visit to KU this weekend. Xavier Henry, 6-6 from Putnam City (Okla.) High, will be on campus for an unofficial visit.

¢ Clinic: Self, Memphis’ John Calipari and Chicago Bulls assistant Del Harris today will be guest speakers at the Elevate Your Game, Inc., Coaches Clinic at Prestonwood Christian Academy Fieldhouse in Dallas.

The game program states Self will speak about “disruptive Jayhawk defense” and Calipari “devastating Tiger offense.”

¢ CBE update: The CBE Classic is expected to today make official the pairings for the season-opening tournament. The semifinal doubleheader will pit Syracuse versus Florida at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 24 at Kansas City’s Sprint Center, with KU and Washington to follow at 9 p.m. The consolation will be played at 6:45 p.m., Nov. 25, with the title game to follow at 9:15 p.m., again at Sprint Center. Early-round games – which will have no bearing on the teams that advance to KC – will be held Nov. 16 and 18.

KU will meet UMKC at 7 p.m., on Nov. 16 and Florida Gulf Coast at 8 p.m., Nov. 18 in Allen Fieldhouse. Earlier it was believed Gulf Coast would play KU the 16th with UMKC visiting the 18th.
