Kansas senior receiver Dexton Fields will miss Saturday's game against visiting Louisiana Tech due to injury, coach Mark Mangino said Wednesday evening.
"He won't play this week," said Mangino, who added that he hopes to have Fields back for the Jayhawks' Sept. 12 game against South Florida. "I can tell you that there's no fracture, but he's in no way ready to play this Saturday, for sure."
Fields, who was the team leader in receptions in 2007, left Saturday's victory over Florida International late in the first quarter with what appeared to be a left leg/foot injury. He caught one pass for negative three yards before being helped off the field.
In his place, true freshman Daymond Patterson will likely see increased playing time. In his first collegiate game last week, Patterson caught three passes for 22 yards, in addition to returning a punt for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, starting right offensive tackle Jeremiah Hatch, who sat out last week's game because of an apparent injury, has spent the week practicing with the team and could play Saturday.
"He's practiced all week," Mangino said. "We feel good about what we see. There hasn't been a whole lot of after-effects from post-practice. Probably. we'll work him through tomorrow's practice and if he looks sharp and he's pain-free, we'll start him."

I want to see Hatch play this week, and am optimistic he can. He should be a big help. He needs to get some PT on the field before the So. Florida game, where KU will be greatly tested.

Not having Fields against South Florida could be huge. I hope he's good to go by then. This is a game that I'm beginning to worry about. Also, our tackles better learn quickly because they will have their hands full against George Selvie when we go to Tampa.

Beginning to worry? Haha I AM worried... But it has nothing to do with the first week. I know this is going to be an absolute battle and we will have to bring our A++ game to win.

ESPN re-ran the La Tech - Miss St game the other night at like 3am. Got to see most of the 2nd half. Mississippi State looked pretty bad...and I wasn't impressed with La Tech's offensive line. I think our defense will keep points scored at bay. Also...we have a lot of depth at wide receiver. Fields will be missed...but Brisco, Meier, Patterson, and Wilson are capable of getting the job done. Would like to see Quigley get more carries. Rock Chalk !!!

Wow. Six posts here. Dugan if you want to get the ball rolling you just need to throw in something about marijuana. That seems to do the trick. Because I'm not even going to bother counting the posts on the Mario, Darrell story. They are infinite. How about "Dexton gets high over the middle and injures leg".Personally I'd much rather talk about the possibility of losing Dexton. They didn't even press any charges over there. No marijuana found. Ha. What are we talking about?Dexton, get it better man. We DO need you.
