Now that Xavier Henry has visited both Kansas University and Memphis, all that remains is for Rivals.com's No. 3-rated player to make a final decision on a school.
There's no timetable or deadline for the decision, Henry's mom, former KU player Barbara Adkins, said Monday night.
"He just got back from his visit (to KU) yesterday. He is going to take a few days, look at positives and negatives and go from there. He doesn't really have a date in mind," said Adkins, who indicated the announcement ultimately would be made on ESPNU.
The network doesn't need much advance notice, so TV scheduling is not a factor in when Xavier's decision will be revealed, she said.
"It's not like they have given him a date. There's no pressure from them," Adkins said.
She said no decision has yet been made.
"He likes both schools and coaches," Adkins said. "Both coaches (Bill Self, John Calipari) are giving him space. We'll talk as a family and let him tell us what he's thinking."
Adkins said her son is not feeling any stress as the Nov. 12-19 early-signing period nears.
"He doesn't tense up or anything like that. He has school, a lot of things going on. He's rehabbing as well," she said.
Henry suffered an assortment of injuries on the AAU circuit last summer. ESPN.com recently reported that Henry suffers from Osgood-Schlatter disease, which causes swelling and pain just below the knee over the shin bone.
In April, Henry bumped knees with a teammate, which caused a flare-up of the Osgood-Schlatter, ESPN.com says. When he returned to the court a few weeks later, he split a bone in his ankle but continued to play. It's expected he'll be ready for the start of the high school season in November.

His knee condition is nothing to be concerned about. It's something that a high percentage of young athletes have while they're growing. And his ankle injury is most likely not much more serious than the stess fractures Sherron and Darrell had last year. It's not like he has a history of torn ACL's a la Billy Walker. Plus, these kids are playing ball basically year round. They go hard from November through mid March. Play a few AAU tournaments in the spring. Hit the AAU circuit all summer, then rest a little in the fall. The argument that he's not going to be able to stand a 30-40 game college season holds no water. He had said he wanted to decided before the early signing period and I wouldn't be surprised to hear from this this week, and I always wouldn't be surprised if he waits till mid-November. He doesn't want to make a rash decision or anything based on his emotions. He wants to make an informed decision based on what will position him best to play playing for money 2 years from now.Sign now or sign later. It doesn't matter, I think we can wait for Xavier.

Let's not be stupid here. We definitely want X. It's one of the biggest decisions of his life. He doesn't need to make a decision at the whim of a bunch of fanatical internet posters. As far as I'm concerned, he can have as long as he wants as long as he picks KU. :-)

My concern with XH is that Sherron Collins was a star 3 sport star in HS. He had no history of injuries or even mising a game. He now plays a single sport (don't cout the ladies in this total) and is the most injury prone KU play in more than a decade. Most of Sherron's problems are weight aggrevated and I don't see that in XH. No way Sherron could last in an NBA season.Sherron need to play at least a full season every game before the NBA is going to throw money at him.The jury is out on XH. He played more BB this past year than ever before. He also missed more games than ever before. The AAU circuit is more physical than HS and only time will tell if his body matures and adjusts.Go Hawks!

Xavier, If you are reading this website, which you probably may be doing, please understand that the wide range of emotions expressed by KU Nation [anger and frustration to sheer joy and adoration] regarding your decision is a love well-placed in KU by all of us. It is a tribute to our school that such intense emotion can be illicited by it's students and alums. You're about to make the biggest decision of your young life. Look deep down inside yourself. Don't worry what your parents think or your brother thinks, or Coach Cal or Coach Self or Memphis fans or KU Nation thinks. Your only obligation is to yourself; to make the decision that will make you happiest. As you well know, at Kansas we are all family and, like family, you can always go home. Best of luck in making the truly best decision for yourself, but no matter what, down deep, you will always be a Jayhawk.

Don't worry about this disease, folks! I also had Osgood-Schlatter's Disease when I was a kid. It is nothing more than one part of the knee growing faster than another part. And while it is painful, it is not serious, and PlasticJHawk is correct, a high percentage of young athletes have it and eventually grow out of it.If X cut back on his AAU schedule and played less pick-up games, he will be fine.I would love to see X playing here, and hope he chooses KU!

College is a huge decision for a kid. They SHOULD take their time making that decision, especially since these guys, because of basketball, have options. When I was in college, I was trying to pick a law school out of four options. This decision would affect my career positioning for years to come (much like Henry's decision will affect his life). I was almost sure that I would make a decision by the time I returned from my last visit (on a Friday). Except that on Friday, I was up in the air, caught between three schools. So I slept on it. Saturday, I filled out the paperwork for a school, but didn't put it in the envelope. Sunday I filled out the paperwork for a different school, put it in the envelope, but didn't stamp it. Monday I made my decision and filled out THAT school's paperwork. I had the luxury of making that decision in private, so no one could say that I milked the process, or that I was a drama queen. X doesn't have that luxury, but he deserves the time and courtesy to make the best decision for himself. If that is KU, welcome to the Hill. If it's Memphis, good luck to him. Either way, we will have a very strong basketball team.

ShazamI agree that KU has better coaching and I think Self is one of the best at developing guards to play in the NBA. Self teaches the best D in the game and NBA wants kids that can shut down the opponent. Plus we have a better schedule than Memphis. To be the best you have to play the best. Reaction, Speed, Timing and Game Speed are all important to developing your game. Memphis is going to blow everyone out in Conference USA like KU v Washburn. KU will be playing on the edge versus ou, osu, t a&m, and Texas.

jcheif...you are very misinformed... just because Xavier is taking his time to decide where he wants to go to college does not make him a "ME ME ME" kid. further, it doesnt mean that he is a "ME ME ME" player either. anyone that has seen him play will tell you that he is a very team oriented player. he seldom presses his game and is good to play with the flow of the game and with his team. what has Xavier done that is SOO wrong? he is considering a different school... big deal. a lot of recruits consider 5!! other's flip flop and then bail at the last minute? BRush's recruitment was much more of a spectacle than this and i don't hear anyone questioning his commitment to the team? Darrell committed elsewhere and then changed his mind because of a dream... Xavier has said for the past year or so that it is KU or Memphis. he hasn't milked the recruitment of other schools (led them on only to bask in the free stuff like SO MANY other recruits of his caliber do). he only wants to make the right decision. if it's ku... great. if it is not, we will be fine and we should wish Xavier the best.

Can't walk well, can't cut and run, can't climb stairs without wincing... just about as painful as you could hope for.Depending on how much time he lets the swelling go down and if he puts no pressure on the inflamed area, he should be golden in about 3 months. Kids heal quickly and that's about how long it took me to 'grow' out of it.btw- We can wait for X if that is what it takes. He's a good kid with a lot of pressure on him. You people who are hating on this kid are pathetic... He is not a drama queen!! He is actually overly humble for all the hype that has surrounded him since the 7th Grade. Locally, back then, he was the only thing people were talking about in OKC. He is known around here for his rare (among big time players) work in the class room and his rare respect for other people. This kid was raised right and it is very well known. Whether he chooses KU or Memphis, he has earned the right to go where he wants, stay as long (or short) as he wants, and then get paid. If you have ever seen him play in person, he carries himself extremely well both on and then also off the court. Aside from all of the talent/skill, the most impressive thing about Xavier is his demeanor and attitude. He carries himself with great pride but also with great humility. Anyone who posts to the contrary is obviously misinformed and ignorant. I want Xavier to play at KU but will always wish him well as he deserves it!Rockchalk

It would be great to have Xavier for one year, but I think we're going to be really good either way. At Kansas, Xavier would get great exposure for scouts, and he would get the best coaching in the country. Memphis had more talent on paper than Kansas, but Kansas had the better coaching, and that made the difference. Any coach can take a top recruit and run their offense through them and get them noticed by the NBA, but it take a real coach to take players and make them better on defense and get them to play as a team. That's what Self does, and that would be best for Xavier.

Henry can go join the "family" as he calls Memphis. Kansas? He says it's just a bunch of average players where he could stand out yet blend in whatever that means. Memphis appears to have a leg up for some stupid reason. I can't wait until we play Memphis next year and stomp those losers yet again. Out coached, out-hustled, deeeeep with talent - again. I don't know that I believe he hasn't made a decision. In fact, I'll guess he has and we'll all know what it is by the end of the month. As for one and done, he certainly has that type of talent, but you never what will happen. Bill Self will continue to recruit Top 25 national players and that means we will always have early departure syndrome. I'm OK with that since that's what it takes to win titles. Not to mention when kids leave, that means we're always in the hunt for next year's top talent. Reloading isn't a concept that troubles Bill Self at all. And how could anyone justifiably question his recruiting strategies? I'd take Snaer over Cheek, BTW. If it came to that decision.

In case he does well in college as expected, he would ensure a high (or higher) draft status.

There's nothing whatsoever about this process that indicates that Xavier is a "drama queen." He has every right to take as long as he needs to make a decision. Would you have preferred that we move on and not let DA come here because he was being a "drama queen" and took a long time to decide? What about Brandon?I echo what Sommersby and jross said about Xavier and his dad. I was at KU when Carl was there, and I still consider him one of the most underrated KU players of all time. An absolute stud who didn't get nearly enough credit because his first year KU sucked and his second year KU was only borderline top 25.One of my greatest memories of KU basketball from my time as a student was being in Manhattan (second row behind the KU bench) to see CH hit a shot from the corner with two seconds left that beat the Mildcats. That was the first win of the "streak" in Manhattan. It would be tremendous if Xavier comes here. But if not, every indication is that he has a lot of class and character and I wish him the best at Memphis. That doesn't make me less of a KU fan because I don't call him a "drama queen" or some other equally nasty and pointless name.

Yes, Yes, Yes! Basketball season is just around the corner and it's time for me to make my entrance into 2008-2009 KU Basketball Blog season. Woooohooooooo! A lot of debate going on about "X". This is what I do know. It is absolutely fantastic that we have the #1, #3, #7, #9, #11, #15, and #16 recruits looking at KU. I've always been one of those type of people that is always about the "Team" first. I've always thought that you can you can get a little lower profile recruit that would make the dynamics of the "Team" a lot better. I'm starting to change my opinon on that theory solely based on the skills of Bill Self. Self has a way of making really good "Individual" players gel as team (Hence our 2008 National Championship team). Recruits are starting to take notice of this and see it as a way to bolster their NBA draft stock. On the list of recruits in the Top 20 that have KU on their list; there is only one recruit I would stay away from. That would be Stephenson. He is a headcase and his selfish attitude and play don't bode well for KU. On the flip side, if there was coach out there to change that mindset of public perception of Stephenson; it would be Coach Self. I've never been a fan of one and done players, but if you have the right mix and the talent of Xavier Henry; I wouldn't pass on that for the world. Any of those guys in the Top 20 would be good additions to our rosters as long as they can be "Team" players. It's all about getting the right mix of players (No matter how long they Stay) and sometimes you win (Like we did last year) and sometimes you lose (Self's first couple of years when he had all the transfers). Like everybody else I want "X" in a KU uniform. He is a good kid and would do KU pround no matter if he stayed all 4 years (Very unlikely) or just stuck around for a year.

I agree with DSommersby. I, too, was at those games with my kids and both players, Kelly Knight, an undersized center with sore knees but always the biggest heart on the floor, and the talented Carl Henry. If nothing else, my heart hopes that Xavier is part of the continuing tradition. I hope he comes.

Yes, we will be fine without Henry, but we will be great with him. I ,too, feel anxious with the uncertainty, but like blogthis said, we'll be fine without him. So, give the young man some time and space. It's not even early signing period yet.

No doubt Jaybate. Now that is a wonderful idea! I bet X's parents would love to move back to their old stumping ground and be able to watch X play in person every game. They would be qualified for assistant coaches (at least Carl Henry is). I think Carl has been running/ coaching basketball programs in OK City all these years.Com'on down.

Flahawk...How is Sherron Collins injury prone? Just because he was injured most of last season doesnt automatically make him injury prone...with that said i could care less if he missed the whole season and then make the plays he made in the championship game..without that steal and three in the corner we wouldnt have won that game..so get off his back...

quit bickering and talking trash on Xavier -- let the guy make his choice when he wants to. He's a good player and I'm sure when it comes down to it, we would all take him on KU. I hope he comes, just quit talking smack on the dude.

I had Osgood-Schlatter's Disease, too. It's no big deal and he should grow out of it about the time he starts playing in college. It does suck when most coffee tables are right at the level of the swelling and you bang in to them. It sounds like his was getting better before he banged one of the bones. Bottom line, it's something you grow out of, and if not you can still play with it if you take some aspirin and ice it afterwards.

Xavier is a great player and I like his family's KU ties, but we don't need him. He will be one and done; I'd rather see Self land players who will contribute for at least 3 years.

Early signing period doesn't start for another couple of weeks. Even if X made a choice, it's not binding until the signing period starts, and he actually sends that letter. This also means that Johnson and Robinson, while they have both made oral commitments, are not bound to wear crimson and blue until they sign LOI's. X has neither flipped nor flopped. He has said that he hasn't made a decision, but that it is down to two, and he plans to sign in the early period. We will all know what we want to know in another two or three weeks.
