Mangino not thinking about shootout
Although Kansas University's 11 a.m. meeting with visiting Texas Tech on Saturday has all the makings of an old-fashioned shootout - two teams ranked in the top 10 nationally in pass offense and bottom 20 nationally in pass defense - Jayhawks coach Mark Mangino made it clear Monday that he won't be content with a lacking defensive effort from his team.
"We're not giving up anything on defense," Mangino said. "You got to get your defense ready to play, no matter who you're playing. You can't go into a game saying we're going to try to out-score people. That's not sound, fundamental football, (and) it gets you in trouble."
Leach: I'm not a PC
Informed Monday that some of the computer calculations in the recently-released BCS standings do not look favorably upon his Texas Tech team, Red Raiders coach Mike Leach unleashed a humorous diatribe against technological advancement in American society.
"I try to avoid computers as much as I can," said Leach, whose team is 7-0 (3-0 in the Big 12) and ranked eighth nationally. "Obviously, you need somebody around that knows how to run a computer, and your video is on computer. But to me, anything involving computers is very frustrating and so I ignore it every step that I can."
Small world
For the second straight week and the third time this season, Mangino will find himself lined up across from a former colleague.
Having already gone against South Florida's Jim Leavitt (who served with Mangino as an assistant at Kansas State in the 1990s) and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, Mangino will now take on Leach, with whom he worked as a member of Stoops' staff at Oklahoma in 1999.

Well, if it's gonna be basketball on grass, here's to the Hawks playing a full court press!...

From looking at the defense this year, I can not concur that the defense was prepared for a single game. The efforts of Coach Bowen prior to games has been ineffective and game time changes have been few or not effective witht he exception of the 2nd half of ISU game.COach Mangino could have fooled me with the use of a out-score them strategy. The offense is so fat ahead of the defense that you wonder how they can legitimately scrimmage each other. On defense with the exception of Stuckey and Holt no one is having a year close to last year. The LBs have lost a step, the DL are small and slow and don't even mention the lack of tackling by the secondary.Looks like an out score them strategy is all KU has, wheather they like it or not.TTech 59KU 48Game ime 4 hours and 14 minutes

I don't see the score reaching quite that high. We play much better at home.Expect both teams closer to 30, I would say.

And KU will win.

KU will win.TTwill not have their way with us the way OU did.Look for our pass rush to be more effective.

Our talent is pretty close to TT's. They may have a little more team speed, but it's pretty close. They, like us, get the "leftover" Texas kids. I don't like the match-up between our back 7 against TT's skill people. But, I doubt if TT likes the matchup of their back 7 against our skill people, either.TT's offense is predicated on YAC and their QB won't get much pressure because most passes are very short. Our DBs have to tackle better than they did against OU.....It's a tough job to bring down a great athlete running at full speed in the open field. Our defensive ends have to contain because they run that wide receiver in motion sweep pretty well. Their running backs are more than adequate. If Nebraska and aTm can pile up yards and points on TT, we should be able to. We have to convert over 50% on third downs to keep the chains moving. This might come down to which team can force the other team to punt 3 times. We need to win the turnover battle, too.

we play better at home because we havent played a good team at home since 2006 when Adarrius Bowman put up 300 recieving yards, i think we lose 49-41

You forget. We beat Adarius Bowman the very next year at his own house. We didn't used to beat good teams at home because we simply weren't good enough to do it.Even though our team has taken a slight step backward this year, I still think they are much, much better than the last time we played a team of TT's caliber at home.
