Border Showdown Recap

6Sports' Kevin Romary takes a look at how KU pulled out a comeback victory against Mizzou on Saturday.

2008 KU-MU football

Stuckey’s big day

Perhaps still smarting from last year’s Border War outcome — during which Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel completed 40 of 49 passes on the Kansas University secondary — Jayhawks junior safety Darrell Stuckey took it upon himself Saturday to ruin Daniel’s afternoon almost single-handedly.

Stuckey, a Kansas City, Kan., native, finished with a team-high six tackles, intercepted two Daniel passes and forced and recovered a fumble by the former Heisman finalist to help Kansas top the Tigers, 40-37, for the first time in three years.

“Stuckey played an amazing game,” said KU cornerback Justin Thornton, reciting his teammate’s stat line to a handful of reporters. “All (that) in the same game, so that must have been great for him.”

Tigers bitten by injury bug

In addition to the sizable welt left on its collective ego, the Missouri football team also left Kansas City on Saturday with some tangible bumps and bruises.

Defensive back Castine Bridges left midway through due to a right knee injury, while All-American candidate Jeremy Maclin, a receiver, had to be helped from the field after making a catch early in the fourth quarter. Maclin, who finished the game with 123 yards and a touchdown receiving, was able to return, but saw limited action down the stretch.

Standout tight end Chase Coffman, meanwhile, was used sparingly, sitting out for significant stretches at a time, but still managed six catches for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

Reesing breaks own record

Reesing’s school record for passing yards in a season didn’t prove too terribly durable.

A year after throwing for a Kansas-best 3,486 yards, the junior quarterback topped his own mark Saturday, throwing for 375 yards to give him 3,575 for the season.

In addition, he broke his own school records for completions (302), attempts (460) and total offense in a season (3,761).

HAHA...Dugie is making excuses for Misery, his alma mater. Maclin had a catch on Mizzou's final td drive as well as the kick return at the end. He did not see limited action. And Coffman was not used sparingly. Why are listing all of these "injuries" that misery had and not mentioning our injuries in the KU Football Notebook. Keep making excusing Dugie for why your pathetic tigers couldn't win the big game again. Mizzou=annual underachievers. Go back to Columbia Dugie. We don't need your terrible writing. Rock Chalk!

Oh for God sake. Is it possible to get ONE article by Dugan without some imbecile referring to where he went to school? In the process of giving a lot of information, he mentions Mizzou's injuries. There is nothing biased about that!

I guess Coffman hurting so badly was why he had to push off against Patterson in the end zone to get Misery's first touchdown of the game.

I agree with both of you.Don't care where he went to school and tired of hearing about it, BUT.....Very bizarre to have the other teams injury report in the notebook.Dugan, we don't give a care about Missouri's injury report. They're a bunch of losers. They are going to get destroyed next week and we'll enjoy every bit of it.Put your injury report in the Columbia paper.Where is our injury report? What bowl game officials were at the game yesterday? What did they have to say after the game? Are we a lock for the Insight or is their another possibility?Who might we play in the Insight or other games?I've given you the benefit of the doubt on your education, but come on, add value or go home.

Worthless article, whoever signs your paycheck should be fired. Looks like we're going to the Insight bowl projected to play Wisconsin. A great chance to showcase KU football but unfortunately that Bowl Game is aired on the NFL Network. These bowl games are a great chance for young future recruits to get a look at schools they may be interested in. Heck I dont even subscribe to the Nfl network how many potential recruits are going to get it and if they do think to go to that channel to watch cfb? NFL should stick to showing the NFL!

Springtx, you make good points.I don't think it's a matter of bias, but it certainly could be a lot more comprehensive.

I also don't care where you went to school. This is a poor effort. Tell us something we don't know.

KU lost another recruit to Nebraska. Kevin Young, the DE out of Olathe, took a trip to Lincoln and switched his commitment. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! We have to keep these local people home.

Well, wait just a minute, we MIGHT be able to pull off the bowl game in front of us...The Alamo Bowl anybody? We beat Mizzou, if they lose again in the Big 12 Championship... we could be going back to San Antonio to make history (again?)And jyhwk1187, yes, the Insight Bowl is on the NFL network. Better pray we can achieve the Alamo Bowl for coverage on ESPN instead.

That would be fun to watch the tiggers get pounded next week, and then get an Alamo Bowl bid in front of them. It would be comical to hear what whining they would come up with then.As for Young, it sucks to lose a quality KS player, but it is still early in the process. Can't imagine this didn't have something to do with the 4 losses in the middle. Saturday has got to help a lot, and a strong bowl game after the extra month of healing and practice ould be just the boost we need heading into the brunt of the recruiting season. It is still a good day to be a Jayhawk!

Actorman I could not disagree more with you. Please open your eyes and re-read the article. It's full of MU bias......from Booger-eater's stats from last season's game (why?) to calling him "the former Heisman finalist" (again, ancient history not needed to be rehashed). And that's just the first two paragraphs!

that really stinks about Young....a big, tall DE that can run...he would have been a nice bookend. how can we keep losing all of our commits? obviously, they weren't that strong.....we need to keep the guys that really believe...and maybe we'll switch someone else.
