Welcome to your new KUsports.com

Welcome to the new KUsports.com. We're excited to get everyone into our new digs. And forgive us if you hear the sound of hammering and sawing for a little while.

There's much that's new - but we wanted to point out a few features to get you started.

Fan discussions page

See the stories, blogs, videos and more that Jayhawk fans are talking about.

Videos

So many KUsports.com videos, so little time. (But really: what else are you gonna do? Work?)

Your own KUsports.com blog

You know you've got something to say. G'head: make a name for yourself.

Your KUsports.com profile

Your latest comments, blog posts, discussions, favorites - your KUsports.com home.

Fan avatars

The outward expression of your inner Jayhawk. (Don't go crazy, though: you don't want to know what happens to users who abuse their avatar feature.)

***

Of course, this wouldn't be KUsports.com if folks didn't say what's on their mind - so, at the bottom of every page, you'll find a feedback form to let us know if something seems out of whack, or is flat out busted, or if there's something you really like or something you'd like to see.

Or, if you like, you can leave your comments in the space below.

thanks for keeping the site user friendly and still the best place for hawk fans to air it out.

Very nice! One thing, is there a "print view" for the stories?

@txrockchalk -- the print view will be along a bit later today. Glad you like the new digs!David RyanOnline editorial projects manager

The website is too slow.Speed this thing up!

davidryan (David Ryan) says...

@keithmiles05 -- you might be hitting the site when we're restarting things after little fixes. That should decrease as the day goes on. In general, the servers running KUsports.com are quite a bit faster than the ones running the site's previous incarnation.

Excellent!! ... I'll try to submit this as a bug, but when I entered my graduation date on editing my profile, it kept coming up "Enter Valid Date" ... Is "1992" not a valid date anymore? ;-)

@ColdCoffee - odd. We'll get that fixed pronto.

@ColdCoffee-Jesse Newell actually got the same problem. Weird how those bugs pop up. Thanks for passing it along.

are they going to bring back the "next up" quick look that used to be at the top right of the page.

November 18, 2008 at 10:58 a.m. ( | suggest removal )

davidryan (David Ryan) says...

@chuckberry32 - there's a Next Game box in the upper right of the front page; and at the moment, during live game coverage, you'll see the front page go blue and bring out the current game updates. When there's no live game updates going on, you'll see the Next game box.

jimcdenver (anonymous) says...

I like the new look. I agree about the slow load times--very slow on our DSL here at work. David, like chuckberry32, I couldn't find the Next Game box either. Is that on the Men's BB home page or the overall KU Sports homepage?

November 18, 2008 at 12:16 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

jkealing (Jonathan Kealing) says...

Jim-The Next Game Box disappears during live game updates. It will return once the live game has completed. It'll be in the same spot you've come to expect it. We're also working to get a little piece of it to remain visible during live games. Stay tuned.

Just from an aesthetic POV, I'd lke to see the masthead have a little more identity/prominence. Right now, it sort of looks 'apologetic' in its demure state. I'm not suggesting being garrish but I think the cock needs to crow a little bit.

@Jonathan KealingOn the bottom of the old site you guys had a section that showed "recently commented articles." I enjoy reading the comments and that was a quick way to view and link to the articles had the most comment activity. Any chance of having that feature on the new site? otw....I definitely like the upgrades. Nice job!

NH_JHawk — Look for the red box on the right that is labeled "Active Discussions." I think that's what you're looking for.

As a long time kusports.com reader I think the new sight pales in comparison to the old. It doesn't seem quite as well organized, doesn't look as inviting, and now I won't be able to check it as fast. Will take some getting used to.

mmlaughsatnerds (anonymous) says...

I agree with mrsmomom...also (and maybe this was done), how about a banner or headline that a "new look" is coming? I laud you for wanting to improve the site, but was reader feedback involved? Were there complaints about the old version? I thought the old version was easy to navigate. The site update made me realize that kusports is a daily routine for me, and that I (in addition to others, probably) don't like unannounced change. Still, I'm catching on to some of the new features and layout and think it will grow on me.

Jesse -Yes indeed that's it! Thank you. If it wasn't right there in front of my face then I probably would've found it much easier. lol....

jkealing (Jonathan Kealing) says...

mmlaughsatnerds-We had a story on our homepage for three days last week letting people know it was coming. It included screen shots and information about what was changing. Feedback from dozens of users was overwhelmingly positive. As for why the change was needed: the site just didn't work as it needed to. Video and other multimedia were impossible to find. Story pages were too narrow and didn't take advantage of the proliferation of larger monitors with higher screen resolution. The story pages didn't communicate with story pages at LJWorld.com. In short, there was stuff wrong with old KUSports.com and we really did want to make all our users aware of the changes. I apologize if you missed it. It was actually posted on the day of the basketball game last week.Jonathan KealingOnline editor

Ok...I'm not a big fan of the new site. One of the best features was the "Upcoming Games" display on the right hand side. That was the reason I went to this site first, before I went to another site like ESPN.com. I'm disappointed with the change.

thecheat-The upcoming game feature will still be there, except during live game updates. There's some bugs in it, but we're working on it.Jonathan KealingOnline editor

I too had to go to another site to find out who we were playing and on what channel. Living out of town, your listing of day, time and channels was my favorite way to find the game -- and also look for stories of interest.
