Collins displays leadership abilities

Before the Kansas men's season even started, junior guard Sherron Collins was the default leader.

One of the best rebounders in the high school Class of 2009 will be playing basketball at Kansas University next season.

He's Thomas Robinson, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound senior forward from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., who signed a national letter of intent and faxed it to Bill Self's office at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, the first day of the week-long early signing period.

"This guy is a rebounder first - rebounder, defender, runner, jumper," Self said late Wednesday afternoon.

"It's hard to say anybody is athletic as 'Shady' (Darrell Arthur), but his motor, his quickness is kind of in that class of 'Shady' and Darnell (Jackson)," Self added.

Self spoke in glowing terms about Robinson, Rivals.com's No. 18-ranked player who chose KU over Memphis and others.

"He goes after every ball. He probably has as good a motor as anybody we've had since we've been here. He maybe has a chance to be about as good a rebounder as there is in this senior class," Self said of Robinson, who averaged 16 points and 13 boards his junior year at Riverdale Baptist High in Marlboro, Md.

"His skill set is improving all the time. He's a good passer, good ball-handler. His shot is improving. He's a prototypical athletic four-man."

Self was asked if Robinson compared to say, Dennis Rodman, who made a living grabbing every available rebound during a long NBA career.

"If there's ever been a human being that had a motor better than Dennis, I don't know who it is," Self said. "Thomas has a motor ... if you are going to make comparisons, that is one you could probably make."

Also ... "I'm not saying he's Tyler Hansbrough, but he goes after the ball like Tyler does," Self said, comparing Robinson to the North Carolina standout.

Robinson - he orally committed to KU on Oct. 10 - has heard he reminds some of the NBA's Tyson Chandler and Dwight Howard.

"Forwards who are versatile and can step out and hit the 15-footer and are also good down low," said Robinson, who said he brings "energy and hard work on defense, rebounding."

Self said he and his assistant coaches took note of Robinson's work ethic at last July's Reebok Underclass Camp.

"Some coaches want to do away with summer recruiting and there's some valid reasoning to that. This is one of the times if we didn't have summer recruiting we might not have known enough about Thomas to get him," Self said.

Robinson attended KU's national championship ring ceremony Sept. 19 in Allen Fieldhouse and was an easy sell after that weekend visit.

"I explained what we were thinking about doing in recruiting and one of his responses was, 'I don't have to commit before Sunday (on visit), do I?' He was ready to go," Self said. "His mom slowed the process down. She wanted him to be sure. I didn't disagree with her on that. That's when he took another visit to Memphis that confirmed everything he felt in the first place. He fell in love with this place when he visited."

Robinson said he liked Memphis a lot, but "I didn't have the sense of 'home' like I did (at KU)."

Robinson and his mom, Lisa, already feel a bond with KU, Self said.

"I talked to Lisa about sending in the letter-of-intent and she said, 'How did we do last night?''' Self said, impressed she used the word 'we' in asking about the Jayhawks' game against Emporia State. "Thomas always says 'we' whenever he talks to us."

Self on Monday will receive a signed letter-of-intent from Elijah Johnson, a 6-2 guard from Las Vegas' Cheyenne High. Self has two scholarships to give, but would like to corral either three or four players because of the likelihood of losing players to the pros.

"We hope to get two more in the fall, but I don't know if that will happen. There would have to be something unforeseen," Self said. "I positively anticipate signing two. We're hopeful for a third."

¢

Snaer to announce Friday: Michael Snaer, a 6-4 senior shooting guard from Rancho Verde High in Moreno Valley, Calif., will reveal his college choice Friday on ESPNU, network officials reported.

Snaer will be featured on ESPNU's College Basketball Signing Day Special to be broadcast from 3 to 5 p.m. Central time Friday. One of the show's publicists said the Snaer portion of the show would likely start about 4 p.m.

Snaer said earlier this week he's considering KU, Florida State and Marquette.

ESPNU says additional guests will include Xavier Henry, the 6-6 guard from Putnam City (Okla.) High, who will choose between KU and Memphis in the spring, as well as John Henson (North Carolina) and Abdul Gaddy (Washington).

¢

Get Motivated: Self was one of the speakers at the Get Motivated Seminar Wednesday at Sprint Center.

"There were 21,000 people there. It was different than speaking to a lot of civic groups at lunchtime," Self said. "I did tell them, 'Only in America can you have such an underdog and a historic feat this month.'

"Somebody yelled: 'Go Obama!' I said, 'No, no, no, not about a measley presidential election, (just) the fact of the matter I would actually be asked to speak at a Get Motivated Seminar with these other headliners,''' he joked.

Speakers included Rudy Giuliani, Colin Powell, Robert Schuller, Zig Ziglar and Tony Gonzalez.

¢

Injury update: KU junior Mario Little, who remains on crutches as he keeps all weight off a stress fracture in his lower left leg, likely will not appear in a game until mid-December, Self said.

"Even if everything goes well, he will not be on the court three more weeks," Self said. "He is getting better, but not enough to move the target date back."

¢

Big men: Self explained he no longer was in the market for a big man when Robinson committed. Thus, Oklahoma City McGuiness senior center Daniel Orton committed to Kentucky. Orton is out until February or March following recent knee surgery.

"We told them both we'd take one inside guy. When Thomas committed then we quit recruiting all other big guys," Self said. "That (injury) is unfortunate but it certainly would not have factored into recruiting him in any way, shape or form. I hope he gets back healthy to finish his high school career and have a great career playing for Billy (Gillispie) at Kentucky."

If you are reading any of these posts Michael Snaer, please do not make the mistake of choosing FSU or Marquette on Friday. Neither school will offer you the national exposure, superior coaching, gametime atmosphere or national championship possibilities as the University of Kansas. We would love nothing more than for you to help bring another championship to KU while advancing your skills to become ready for a long career in the NBA. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!

If somebody asked you to do a national TV interview, and you were in high school, you'd probably do it. It makes the ratings better for ESPN(u). Plus, it is intruiging to the audience, if Snaer does choose KU, to see how Henry will answer the question, "well, that looks like the last scholarship at KU, so are you going to Memphis?"Of course, we know, he knows, and especially Self knows, there will be a spot available for him next year, no matter how late he waits to sign. So that will be an interesting interview, considering he'll have to choose his words wisely.Henry being there says a lot for his friendship with Snaer. You get the feeling they are buddies and are thinking of playing on the same team before the NBA. Last I checked, the only common school left on their list was...KU

Snear last visited FSU, and I get the feeling that he will end up there. Even though we are (BY FAR) the best school on his list, I just feel like he's not headed our way. It'll be interesting to see the X interview. They will have to ask him the questions that we have all been wondering... Who is leading, When do you think you'll know?..., etc. I wish that he would fool us all and decide (unexpectedly) on Friday. I could just see it now, they cut to X, he's wearing a KU hat, the interviewer says, "Xavier, I see you have a Kansas hat on, does that mean anything?" X says, "Not much, just that I'm going to Kansas."One can dream...

Texas has 2 top 20 guys already. there are ways around limits. probably 5 or 10 guys who have not been around when the scholarship time comes next year.... CJ, Micah, Padgett, Giddens, Omar Wilks, Galindo. Never say we only have 2 to give. HA. Branden was very late deal. can see X and Snaer easy... Wall may be a stretch. We all saw last night things may be better this year than expected. Self knows you have to mix 4 star and 5 star players to win title . fab five won how many?? UNLV another example. Teams have to bring in a tough strong guy like Russel R to go with Darrell Authur. Jackson to go with Rush. Sasha to go with Mario. Self is the best there is. We did not win it all with Paul Pierce! UNC is not to be crowned yet. Our big men exposed what can happen to Tyler when other teams have more than one big man that plays D.

I hope Snaer picks KU, but I am not entirely optimistic. His bottom line is immediate playing time. Even though KU is loaded at the wing now, he is an elite player who would contribute immediately - but will he take a look at the holes at FSU and jump on board there as the "franchise player"? The argument looks great for KU, but I'm not so sure he will bite.

Look at the way Self lined KU up for the national championship. 2 of those players we didn't have room for. Fell together at the last minute. These things can be lucky sometimes (defections, etc) but believe me, Self is looking for a way to get this walk off game 7 grand slam. Just like he did 3 years ago. Kids have stepped away from their scholarships before to gain an awesome recruit. Its the epitome of taking one for the team. It's not unheard of, it's legal, and Self is very aware of his deck of cards. It very well could happen, however it might not. Only time will tell. The bottom line is that all 3 kids know there is a place for them at KU.

I don't mind all this if its all theater; that is, if he's already told Self, fellow Okie ballers Buzz Williams and Leonard Hamilton he's coming and this is being done just to try to pump up the three teams' recruiting profile in LA, regardless of who gets Snaer. But...If Snaer really is keeping Self guessing, then this is bogus. The only reason I'm pessimistic about Snaer is that ESPN has NEVER done KU a favor EVER!!!! Dick and Digger never give us the respect we deserve. I'll never forget the disgracefully unprofessional way Vitale underreported our championship win by focusing on Calipari screwing up in the Final Four babeeeeeey. He couldn't handle the way we slapped his beloved and be-hyped Tyler and humiliated UNC. Digger, of course, is eternally a subhuman life form playing to Big 10+1 and Big East audiences. ESPN is never our friend. At best they report us when they have to. This is a deal they do not have to report. Therefore, I am inclined to think they are reporting it, largely because it will help their market ratings in LA and in another major market, like Florida. I can't see any other reason for them to cover it under those circumstances. On the other hand, I could see Self play along with the charade to get big exposure for KU recruiting in LA, and help out his old buddies--Buzz Williams and Leonard Hamilton. LA has been a tough place for KU to recruit in lately, even with Kermit Townsend's connections. LA media have tended to black out KU since Roy's days of LA raiding, and without media exposure in LA it is just very tough to be taken seriously there. I could see Hamilton and Buzz Williams, the fellow Okie Ballers, thinking going along with the charade would get them exposure in LA, too. Regardless, something seems kind of contrived about all this.

KU never has the coverage nationwide that duke gets. if i go to vegas as i do each new years there is no guarantee that a casino will show the game if its on espnu or one of those channels. in fact if its not on the betting board it won,t be on period! even fsn west-which is big 12 and pac 10- may not show the game in favor of ariz. st and wash. so as i have pointed out before KU ath. dept. needs to step up and take charge. One thing many of you arent considering is how these kids view playing time. While im sure ALL of them see the pomp, circumstance, atmosphere, and such as things that would lean in KUs favor over almost any other school... the reality is 10 guys arent getting 35 minutes a night. And many of these High School stars have it in their minds that's what they "should" get when they come to play D-I basketball. You cant control what a kids "crew" and outside influences do to affect a kids mindset. And weather that kid has the capacity to see reality or the dillusion of it all. If I were recruiting against ku, the easist argument against going there is playing time. In fact, its about the only one an opposing school could make and gain traction Id think.Weather it was Roy, or Self now, KU sells itself. It doesnt hurt that they're both likeable guys (Self's greatest asset in "the game") and kids respond to whatever he's selling. We'll always be pulling from the top kids in the country no matter what. Weather its #5 or #55 probably doesnt matter as much as you'd think.

KU is on ESPN more than any other team, nationally, in the last 5 years. Whoever is saying ESPN splits apart the country doesn't understand how ESPN works. ESPN plays one game at a time. No splitting. Now, to be fair, ABC and CBS can split apart the country, they almost always go regional (Duke games almost never show in California for instance unless it's covered by ESPN because NC has taken their market thanks to Roy). All in all, KU, regional coverage and true national TV games combined, still gets more TV coverage than all the other schools. Memphis, for instance, gets one quarter of the national TV games KU is on. That's a lot less for an aspiring NBA player.

fihsch,You are soooooooooooooooo right about glassvac skill.Glassvac skill hinges on response to a small moving object with a wide range of speed, direction and acceleration change and approximating a path to it through ten moving players. Defending, by comparison, hinges on response to a single human in relation to one primary, and one or two, secondary players in trying to keep them from a fixed goal.Scoring, again by comparison, hinges on attacking a fixed goal.I argue rebounding is the most complicated, though not the most accurate and precise activity of the three. It requires lots of broad and intermediate focus quickly transitioning to narrow focus. Scoring requires the most accuracy and precision and most narrow focus with some intermediate and broad focus if you're also a disher. Defending requires almost equal amounts of narrow and intermediate focus. My brother was shorter than I was. He was not as good of a jumper as I was, and he could always outrebound me. And he rebounded well all the way to a state championship game back in the dark ages. Great rebounders have a cluster of characteristics other players seem not to have, or to have much less of. 1. They can triangulate spatially among the shooter, the basket and where they are and anticipate where the rebound will go much more reliably than the usual player. This is literally a hard wired capability that they can sharpen with practice and experience that others cannot match. It is as distinct an ability as shooting touch, or jumping ability, or speed.2. They have the instinct of a wrestler regarding body leverage; this allows them to move opponents around for position.

November 13, 2008 at 12:11 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

jaybate (anonymous) says...

3. They have extremely strong, sure, slightly oversized and soft hands. They are often as good at catching a football as a basketball, whether they choose to play football or not.4. They all seem to have considerable shoulder strength, which allows them to clamp down on and retain a ball which their hands are so good at catching.5. Rebounders tend to be conservative and reactive. They think people tend to miss shots, where as shooters tend to think they (at least themselves) make shots. Rebounders believe the way you get ahead in life is to exploit/capitalize on other persons mistakes. They like to see how things shape up BEFORE committing, but they then like to commit faster and quicker than the other guys. Put another way, most of them are not creators, or freelancers, even on offense, though again there are exceptions to this.7. They are very comfortable with the deception and ambiguity of consciously bending rules with finesse to achieve their ends. Stepping on feet, hipping, shoving, holding uniforms is something they are adroit at doing with subtlety. They even take pride in it.

November 13, 2008 at 12:12 p.m. ( | suggest removal )

jaybate (anonymous) says...

8. They view themselves and in fact are very reliable, unglamorous types with slightly lower self-esteem than their remarkable bundle of skills justifies. They intuitively like the idea of team play to leverage their competitive advantage, because they view themselves as less creative and glamorous than other players who can take control of a game with scoring, though again there are exceptions to this tendency for sure. Charles Barkley developed into a superstar who could do it all, but if you have ever heard him talk about his earliest years in the game, he thought of himself as largely a lunch pail rebounder type. And to this day Charles is politically conservative. People have always mistaken his flamboyance (conservatives can be very flamboyant, just ask Tom Wolfe) for the essentially conservative approach to his game. Charles ALWAYS played to his strengths and ALWAYS played within himself. He just happened to be one of the most gifted players of his size ever to play the game. Also, rebounders, unlike defenders and scorers, tend not to boast that they can "rebound your ass into the ground." They never say, "Hey, rookie, come in here and I'm going to take the rebound away from you." Rebounding is a reactive activity. They cannot dictate a rebounding event. Rebounders understand they can increase the odds of getting a rebound, but that they can't grab one unless someone else shoots. Shooter can create a shot. Defenders can attack an opponent. Rebounders have to wait. They are a different breed of cat. 9. All evidence some alpha male tendencies around the ball. This is mine and I WILL hurt you if you try to take it from me.

10. Can't prove this last one, of course, and intelligence is very tricky to measure, because there are so many different kinds, but anecdotally speaking, I observe they tend to have higher IQs than other players. Perhaps this allows them to process more strategic information about more of the players on the floor faster and then get to the rebound through traffic quicker than the others. By strategic information, I am talking about the kind of information you actually some what consciously evaluate, as opposed to the information that you are processing instinctually. Rebounders, unlike scorers, are focused on a moving, unpredictable target--the ball. They consider the fixed basketball goal as only one of many variables. Shooters in contrast are focused on a fixed target, and consider many variables (shooting, dishing, player movement and position) only to make the basket. Herein lies the most fundamental difference between rebounders and all other players. Rebounders are more adept at focusing on and responding to moving targets, whereas, scorers, say, are more adept at focusing on responding to a fixed target. It is a completely different orientation and apparently requires completely different kinds of world view, or processing tendency, to do well at. Both activities require wide and narrow focus, but rebounding by definition has the added complexity of a moving target as its end. Therefore, I suspect on average, rebounders tend to be slightly more intelligent, simply because they do tend to be able to process this higher level of spatial complexity on average, than scorers and other types of players. I am not saying rebounders tend to be geniuses, or 4.0 students--far from it. I'm just saying they tend to be among the brighter players on the team in my too small N sample for statistical significance. They might also tend to score higher on spatial reasoning testing. Of course we don't really need to test for any of this, because their rebounding skill is pretty self-evident.11. There is a recent addition to intelligence measuring called emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence correlates strongly to insight. It refers to how effectively you handle and manage the emotional responses of situations. Do you stay positive? Do you channel your emotions into making you work harder and more effectively, or do you let them distract you from your goal? Do you read other's emotions and understand how to use them to your advantage, or to the advantage of a group goal? And so on. Do you grasp humor and its function for relieving tention? Do you understand that emotion is a balance of feelings and that you can have too much or too little? My anecdotal experience is that consistently good rebounders tend to have high emotional intelligence.

Jumping, height, and weight, only become decisive advantages in rebounding, when a player also possesses all, or most all of the tendencies I have mentioned above.Put another way, many good rebounder are very mediocre in terms of jumping, height and weight at their respective positions. But I really can't think of one that does not possess most, if not all, of the tendancies above.Bill Bridges, Rodman and Charles Barkley exemplify the right tail of the rebounder distribution--the tail where rebounders are great regardless of size. They were rebounding geniuses if you will that were relatively short in height. All started out as very good rebounders for their size and developed into being brilliant rebounders. All were able to rebound against players much taller proving height was not a decisive factor. All were VERY strong and had great hands. All, but especially Bridges, were Alpha Male types. One developed himself into an adequate offensive player (Bridges), one developed into a great offensive player (Barkley) and one never developed much offense because he had no shooting touch (Rodman). All were of waaaaaaay above average intelligence and emotional intelligence, though each varied widely in terms of flamboyance and its manifestation. But these three, relatively short, rebounding geniuses possessed the same skill set (and I would argue rebounding IQ) I have enumerated that gifted tall rebounders (Bill Russell, Wilt, Walton, Shaq, and so on) have possessed. Bill, Wilt, Walton and Shaq for example were very, very smart men in most every strategic sense of the word smart and in many basic IQ senses of the word. When all is said and done, it seems to me that what sets rebounding and rebounders apart in the game is the focus on and interaction with a small, moving object (the ball) capable of huge ranges of speed and motion in all dimensions, rather than on a fixed object (the basket). It is the difference between contending with a fixed emplacement vs. a mobile opponent--the latter is by far the more complicated endeavor requiring more savvy at approximation and improvisation underway--the former requires by far the greater accuracy and precision in execution, at least after shot creation.

Let's not forget that Self and crew have been pretty good about getting guys that will be here longer than a "1 Year Showboating Tour". We aren't gonna win another one in a year of recruiting hot talent. You need 2-3 years of consistently recruiting hot talent that learns to play D, minimize turnovers and run our system together. So while it's probable that we'll get one (Wall, Snaer, or X) It's a slight possibility that we'll get two and it's unlikely but plausible we'll get three. Keep in mind there is one ball, 5 positions, 12 players, and only 40 minutes to go around. So while it's a problem we'd all welcome...it could end up being not as great in the long run. And to whomever wrote that Tuesday's game surprisingly showed we'll have a better year than expected. I'd say don't get to high and don't get too low. They are young...they will slack on defense, turn the ball over, lose focus many times this year. But that's the learning process...next year and the year after...look out!!

Personally, I don't understand why Wall wouldn't still come to KU even in spite of Johnson signing. Wall could very well run point while Johnson, played shooting guard. Snaer could be a third guard, which certainly wouldn't be new to KU. Rotate Cole (if he's still here) with the Morris twins and Robinson and I think you have a pretty elite squad. These kids don't seem to grasp that you don' have to score 30 points a game to be a #1 pick. NBA scouts have been doing this a long time. If you are talented, you get picked, period. Might as well win a championship while you're in college.

I've been a Jayhawk since 1966 and have lived and breathed Hawk basketball, but does anyone beside me see the possibility that KU may come in a strong second with all these kids?WALL - The rumors are true and his Mom guides him to BaylorHENRY - All the reasons for Memphis have been repeated ad nauseum.SNAER - Featured role and total PT at Florida State for the 2009/10 season.stephenson - Big City kid needs Big City lights and ends up staying at home at St.Johns.For all the talk and posts and theories and "inside info",I am getting a sick feeling that KU is going to be shut out of these kids. Not that we're hurting with Mr.Johnson and Mr.Robinson in the house, but one of these guys would have put us over the top. Please, please, please any of you bloggers out there ease my woes.

I`m not so sure we want Stephenson. I read Memphis quit recruiting him because of on/off court issues. Doesn`t sound like he`s a team player. I prefer Cheek over Stephenson anyway. As for Cheek and Wall, I believe they`re in Memphis for their visits this weekend or next. Memphis has a chance with Wall but I don`t think so with Cheek. Go KU!

JaybateAre you my old Stephenson Hall, KU dorm buddy, the now famous Bill James??? Like he, your analysii border on doctorate thesis quality. Your comments on rebounding reminded me of a conversation we had 40 years ago whereby he rationalized that rebounding was putting order to the random motion theory, and, like 40 years ago I didn't understand a word he said either.PS That's a complement, dude.

MOJHawk,Alas, no. You were a lucky devil to know him. Bill James is a giant, a Kansas treasure, everything that is good about sports fans and sports and a hero of mine. He of all KU persons ought to be in the KU sports hall of fame if he is not. I am such a huge admirer of his that I wish he were in the AFH museum.I used to play Ball Park Baseball at his place, or what I was told was his place. We saw him there. He was not yet famous, as I recall. I don't know if anyone but me remembers the place. You had to be pretty strange to go there. It was so far ahead of its time that its time has STILL not come. The small crowds were not quite jocks and not quite nerds. They were jock-nerds, a combination that I have never run into since. '27 Yankees vs. a team with Hack Wilson was concluded by my group of weirdos to be the two best teams of all time as of the early 70s. Beer and that wacky little random number generator in the middle of the table. Simpler times, eh?Rock Chalk!

Speculation is so much fun! Even if you turn out to be the one who guesses correctly, you may still never know why. My two cents goes like this: I don't like the fact that X is going to wait until spring to decide any more than the rest of the Jayhawk basketball world. But it is the right decision for him. Why? Because (barring injury) he is a one-and-done player. As such, it makes sense for him to watch KU and Memphis over the next few months to see how they each develop with their current players. Make a guess as to who will leave early from each program and then decide which team is best for his one year of college. He wants to be a lottery pick in the NBA draft and waiting is the shrewd approach on his part. Snaer on the other hand is at least a two(or three)year player in my opinion. His decision should be from a different perspective - more minutes on a weaker team or fewer minutes on a team that is a perennial power with a legitimate shot at a strong Final Four run. It still comes down to the old saw "You pays your money and takes your chances". No matter which players we do or don't get Self is a team first type of coach, and in my opinion that style is always more conducive to winning championships. One last comment/question - Name the last team, that had a one-and-done player, to win the Final Four?

The last team to win the national championship with a one-and-done player was North Carolina in 2005 with Marvin Williams. The last team to win (in) the Final Four with a one-and-done player was Memphis in 2008.The last team to win the national championship with at least a couple players who had been labeled one-and-done was Kansas in 2008.

tomhawk,Most would point to Syracuse in 2003 (Carmelo Anthony), but I would say UNC in 2005 (Marvin Williams). Obviously, the two Florida titles didn't have one and done guys. As for losing out on recruits, I'm not really that worried.Remember, we have a seven man class this year. We already have two top level guys for next year. We also have at least one guard for 2010 (Woolridge) who replaces one of this year's juco guys. There are five guards out there, all top 20 talents, that we are in the hunt for - Wall, Henry, Stephenson, Snaer, Cheek. Let's take them one by one.Wall - pure point guard with athleticism. Kind of a Derrick Rose, but allegedly a better passer (hard to tell on film, but he's great in transition). Two months ago, I would have tabbed him to go to either Baylor or Memphis, but now I'm thinking NC State. His mom is sick, and its apparent that they are close (he's from Raleigh). I say he stays home for a year, plays, then goes to the league to help support his mom. Henry - smooth wing guard, everyone knows the book on him. I think he's a Memphis guy. He can come in next year and replace Tyreke Evans seemlessly. Plus, I think he may want to spend some more time with his brother before he starts his NBA career (X seems like a family kind of guy to me). Stephenson - big, strong, tough, classic NYC game. Tons of interest. I see him as a Big East kind of player, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him surface at Pitt, and star in the Garden during the Big East tournament.Snaer - Maybe the most explosive athlete in the group. He's very well rounded and versatile. It looks like he's not going to UCLA. Two schools on his list don't make sense to me - Missouri and Florida State. They are there for a reason, but I'm not sure what that reason is. I think he picks one of those two.Cheek - He's my favorite of the group, obviously. He's a better shooter than the rest of the group. I think that's what KU needs, and more than that, he's got his buddy and backcourt mate from high school at KU. I think that's why he picks KU.
