House recognizes KU

The U.S. House of Representatives was expected to pass a resolution Monday night congratulating the KU football team for its 2007 season, which concluded with a 24-21 victory over Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

The resolution originally was submitted by Kansas representative Nancy Boyda on behalf of herself, Dennis Moore, Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt. It was referred to the Committee on Education and Labor.

Interesting note about the resolution, submitted on Jan. 29: The score of the game was incorrectly listed as 24-20, and All-America cornerback Aqib Talib's first name was spelled "Aquib."

KU expects both those facts to be corrected in the final version.

Mortensen watched

KU linebacker Joe Mortensen has been named to the watch list for the 2008 Rotary Lombardi Award.

Mortensen, KU's middle linebacker, had 106 tackles in 2007 after making the switch from outside linebacker.

However, Mortensen was seen on crutches at Saturday's awards banquet with a brace on his left knee.

Mortensen was playing through a knee injury late in the 2007 season, but it actually was his right knee causing his problems then.

Pro Day today

Many NFL scouts are expected to be in Lawrence today as KU conducts its annual pro day.

Several former Jayhawks - including Talib, Anthony Collins, Derek Fine, Marcus Henry and Brandon McAnderson - are expected to work out this morning in hopes of luring the interest of professional teams.

At least two former Jayhawks - Talib and Collins - are certain to get selected in the NFL Draft, which starts April 26 in New York.

Its no wonder Congresses approval rating is lower than a president who is in the 8th of year of his administration.
Is it really that hard to read a scoreboard.

We pay taxes to have our representatives pass frivolous resolutions like this?!

We need to go back to the way Congress was originally envisioned in the old days. Men (and women) who keep their day jobs and go to Washington for a couple of short sessions each year to take care of urgent business. That way their idle minds won't have time to think up ways they can interfere (read: more taxes and regulations) in our lives.

The Founders' of this nation did not intend for people to become career politicians!!

Harry S. Truman might have been a Missourian, but at least when his term was up, he returned to working the land on his farm ... and didn't conduct some cockamamie book tour!!

No, it's for far more important reasons like sending thousands of people to their deaths in Iraq (not to mention killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis).

Did anyone else order the football season in review from kustore.com? I did and still have not got the damn thing! Everbody else I know has got theirs that didn't order it from there. I'm pissed!

Does anyone realize this is a sports site and not a political one?
I guess I'll have to be the only one who loves KU FB enough to comment on the actual team.....Did anyone ever think that Fine would get invited to the combine, and then actually do very well? I think he may actually get drafted. Henry may go in the late rounds and if B-Mac gets picked up that would almost double the number of Hawks in the NFL!
