2008 March 11 Spring Football press conference
Kansas University's third non-conference game of the 2008 football season, a road tilt at South Florida, was moved Tuesday from Saturday Sept. 13 to Friday Sept. 12. It will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
The Jayhawks open the season with home dates against Florida International (Aug. 31) and Louisiana Tech (Sept. 6). The non-conference season will conclude with a game against Sam Houston State in Lawrence on Sept. 20. That will be followed with the first of two bye weeks heading into Big 12 play.
KU's last road non-conference game, coincidentally, was also played on a Friday night. The Jayhawks lost to Toledo, 37-31, in double overtime in 2006. That game was also shown on ESPN2.

For a while, the rumor was it was going to be pushed back to be the first game of the season, not just for the two teams, but for the entire of Division I. That would have been extra cool... but this is cool enough. Lets get some early national exposure so we can prove to all the doubters the 2007-2008 Orange Bowl Champion Jayhawks were not a fluke. Rock Chalk!

This is definitely good news. I recall they had been looking at moving it up to late August at one point, but the schools couldn't agree on a date. This should work well for both schools, especially KU. You can't have too many quality non-conference road games on your resume.

This is awesome. We will definitely have some conference games on national TV but to get early exposure is great too. Hopefully we can land some ballers out of talent rich Florida after we clown on USF.

That goes to show we are getting some respect now! Should be a good test for KU.

I'm quite confident that this KU team will make a better showing than the last one to appear on a Friday night.
I'm psyched because I'm planning on going to the game and now I can get in another game on Saturday.
