President recognizes KU at Rose Garden
Nobody - not even the leader of the free world - knows just how rich the soon-to-be-professional members of Kansas University’s men’s basketball team will strike it. But none other than President Bush himself is sure at least some of the Jayhawks will be rolling in it. “I wish those of you going into pro ball the very best,” Bush said in a Rose Garden ceremony Tuesday recognizing the Jayhawks for their 2008 national championship. “Some of us are going to be out of work soon. I may be looking for loans.”

A&M lone conference survivor from regionals
Big 12 Conference baseball pride was in serious jeopardy last weekend. Of the six conference teams that made the NCAA Tournament, five of them were knocked out in the first weekend of regionals. Texas, which won national championships in 2002 and 2005, couldn’t keep its three-year title pattern within reach in 2008.
Beasley actually 6-81â4
Turns out, Michael Beasley is not 6-foot-10, as he was listed by Kansas State. He also isn’t 6-foot-7, as some of his detractors have suggested in recent weeks, either.
KU’s Gockel defeated
Kansas sophomore Meghan Gockel lost to Elizabeth Wendt in the first round of match play at the 2008 Women’s Southern Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon.
Naismith comes to life
The inventor of basketball will make an appearance this weekend in Lawrence. Not really, but a Kansas City, Mo., history professor will portray James A. Naismith, Kansas University’s first basketball coach, at a 3 p.m. event Saturday at Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.
Eleven Jayhawks all-region
Eleven members of the Kansas University track and field teams received a total of 14 all-region honors, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Tuesday.
Sloppy conditions damage scores
Monday night rains made for some long holes and high scores on the opening day of stroke play at the Kansas Golf Association Four-Ball Championship. It was most obvious for golfers playing Alvamar Country Club.

Question his policies or debate his legacy all you want. At least give President Bush props for this: He knows his Jayhawks. Or at least his speech writers do. During a brief ceremony Tuesday at the Rose Garden, Bush honored the 2008 men’s basketball national champions.

There were no major surprises involving the official measurements of Kansas University basketball players at last week’s NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando, Fla.

He checked eBay to see if anyone had placed a charitable bid on his signed No. 93 game jersey, framed with two action photos and a plaque denoting his accomplishments as a Kansas University football player.
