Kansas guard Mario Chalmers confirmed on Sunday that he'll forego his senior season at KU to stay in the NBA draft.

After his first individual workout with NBA teams, Mario Chalmers told Phoenix Suns reporters he'd be keeping his name in the 2008 NBA Draft.
He had no change of heart after his fifth workout - Saturday's session in New Orleans - and on Sunday announced he'd definitely played his last game at KU.
"In my past five workouts, I have impressed the scouts and general managers, showing them my capabilities to have success at the next level," said Chalmers, who like teammate Darrell Arthur declared for the draft shortly after KU's national-title victory over Memphis but did not sign with an agent.
He and Arthur - who also is remaining in the June 26 draft - had until today to withdraw from the draft if they wished to play again in college.
KU's Brandon Rush declared for the draft in April and signed with an agent, eliminating early any chance of returning for a final season.
"Being at Kansas has made me a better player and better person," said Chalmers, who also worked out for Denver, Cleveland and Washington. "I want to thank all the fans, the coaches and players who have helped me in my three years at KU. I will always be a Jayhawk and will come back and visit every chance I get."
KU director of basketball operations Ronnie Chalmers approved of his son's decision.
"This has been part of Mario's dream, to play at the next level," Ronnie Chalmers said. "He has accomplished his goals at Kansas. He wanted to come here and win a national championship, and he did. His mother (Almarie) and I are happy to be able to see him live this dream."
KU coach Bill Self was not surprised by Chalmers' decision. Self told the Journal-World on June 11, "he's staying in the draft."
"Even though this was official (Sunday), we anticipated this back in April when he declared without an agent," Self said. "We are excited for Mario's draft prospects. From what we have gathered his stock has climbed. We wish Mario the very best, and we will anxiously be waiting to see where all of our guys will be drafted."
Draftexpress.com predicts Chalmers will be tapped No. 26 in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs. The Web site has Rush being tapped No. 15 by Phoenix and Arthur 18th by Washington.
ESPN's Chad Ford has Arthur being tapped No. 14 by Golden State, Rush 15th by Phoenix and Chalmers 22nd by Orlando.
¢ Rebuilding/reloading job ahead: KU will return just four scholarship players off last year's national-title team. They are Cole Aldrich, Sherron Collins, Brady Morningstar and Tyrel Reed.
The Jayhawks have added juco players Tyrone Appleton and Mario Little, prep schoolers Marcus and Markieff Morris and high schoolers Travis Releford, Tyshawn Taylor and Quintrell Thomas in recruiting. Also back are walkons Matt Kleinmann, Brennan Bechard, Chase Buford and Conner Teahan.
"Even with all the losses," Self said, "we've got one of the best guards and big men in the conference coming back, in my eyes at least. We have some stuff to build around, just not numbers to build around. Some of those other guys (on KU roster) are going to be pretty good."
Had Chalmers returned, "we'd have been Top 10 (rated). We (now) might be pretty good by the end of the year."
Self remains enthusiastic about the 2008-09 Jayhawk team, despite losing his eight scholarship players.
"With the number of guys we're losing, we've got to get the young guys to step up and play like men maybe a little before they are ready to," Self said. "It'll be fun. It'll be challenging."
¢ Robinson in Charlotte: KU's Russell Robinson today will hold his first individual workout for an NBA team, with the Charlotte Bobcats.
"We'll see how that goes," Robinson said. "A couple other teams are interested. I'll play hard, and good things will happen. All it takes is one (team) to love you," Robinson added. "There's always summer league (if he doesn't get drafted). My agent is confident. I'm confident for sure. We'll go out there and see what we can do."

I can't believe I am posting a K-State comment (sign of maturity?), but it's too bad about B. Walker of KSU. Good athlete but bad luck. Maybe his mishap might help a few 'Hawks move up a spot (plus I don't want to see him back at Silo Tech).

Chalmers has been my favorite Hawk since I saw him at the McD's game in 2005. He's definitely going to be missed, but I'm excited to see him in the League next year. I'm also pumped about the KU team next year. We will have 11 scholarship guys, which is not very many when you think about it, but we should have a good team by the end. I ask everyone again to remember that this team is new and will be figuring each other out early in the season, so don't panic if December is a little bumpy. Remember the early days of the Chalmers-Rush-Wright group? Some thought that the entire history of Kansas basketball was going up in smoke. Be patient with these new guys and watch them grow as a team. Trust Coach Self. Remember the guy that some were clamoring to have fired twenty six months ago after being felled by Bradley? See the guy that is the toast of the town now? Same guy. Trust what he is doing. He is replacing six of his top eight rotation guys. Give him time to get these guys playing basketball the way it should be played. And most of all, enjoy the success that is surrounding us and our guys. A national championship. Julian having a huge second half of the season. Three probable first round picks. Paul Pierce possibly closing in on an NBA title and cementing his place among the best scorers on the planet. A reloaded team for next season. Enjoy it. Soak it all in. Rock chalk.

Anyone know where you can get the DVD of the Championship Game? Also, there used to be a Year End Highlight video that some company made following each basketball season. Anyone know where to find that? I need as many DVD's of this past year as possible. I agree justanotherfan, I have a feeling we'll be in the Final Four 2 more times within the next 3-4 years. I bet we win another title within the next 5.

MGJayhawk....I ordered everything from SI, but the KUathletics.com sight has the DVD as well. The end of year review called "Rock Chalk Championship" was very well done with lots of player interviews, top 20 plays of the regular season, lots of locker room speeches. A must have imo.

Both are (were) advertised on the KUAthletics page. Season recap is really good (called Rock Chalk Championship) and narrated by Harlan. Final Four by CBS is not as good, but it does show the entire championship game. The KU-UNC game only partially. Check CBS if the Final Four is no longer available at KUAthletics.

Regarding the KU-UNC semi-final game: the CBS version is a big disappointment. It omits large portions of the big run in the first half, where Cole Aldrich excelled. Very disappointing because this was one the standout games in KU basketball history, imho. Try to find the entire game via an alternative source.

Who can blame Mario when you see Rondo and Farmar "battling" for an NBA title? It also makes RossRob look like he deserves a shot in the WWE...I mean the NBA.

It'll be interesting to see if the Spurs take him (and don't trade him). No matter where he goes, he'll be a role player, but with the Spurs would they dare replace Vaughn with Chalmers? IMHO:Chalmers = Vaughn defensivelyChalmers >> Vaughn shootingVaughn >> Chalmers ball handlingVaughn definitely is a liability when he comes in the game and San Antonio is trailing. Chalmers could help there if he doesn't cave to defensive pressure.

No surprise here. Mario has earned this and I also wish him great success in the NBA.A note today on Draftexpress.com that Arthur is missing from his scheduled NBA workouts for teams:"-A few teams we spoke with this weekend were wondering about the whereabouts of Darrell Arthur. The Kansas power forward reportedly canceled workouts with the Clippers (#7), Philadelphia (#16), Toronto (#17) and Indiana (#11) after working out for Seattle (#4, 24) and Sacramento (#12). Arthur has not hired an agent and is reportedly conducting all his business through his mother and AAU coach, although he will surely stay in the draft. One NBA team we spoke to had a hard time figuring out where he was and whether or not he'll be showing up for their workout, as he did not bother to cancel or notify anyone of his plans. There were talks of a potential back and/or hamstring injury, leading some to question if anything funny is going on. He was reportedly 100% healthy when he worked out for Sacramento on Friday. Arthur's camp could not be reached for comment."

For whatever it's worth, I've got both the above mentioned championship videos and quite honestly they both are good and bad.The CBS version (The Official 2008 NCAA Championship) does omit lots of the semi final game and it is also very poor quality - definitely not HD. However, it has pretty much the entire championship game with no commercials. The Rock Chalk Championship features alot more interviews and great memories from every game of the season including some nice Late Night stuff. The Big 12 tourney and first 4 games of the NCAA were featured as well. However, there wasn't enough semi-final and championship game coverage for me. Finally, there were some very emotional scenes from the celebration with the team at the stadium and the parade - pretty cool.I would recommend both videos - it's a long summer and the Royals aren't going anywhere again :).

Thanks Melrank, great Reviews.Sounds like UNC will be the 'Perfect Team' next year. Wow, are they loaded. Just like the Patriots, UNLV with Larry Johnson, and the Memphis Tigers this year, let's see if they crack under pressure. Even as a rebuilding team next year, I think we'll have a lot of fun with no pressure. However, here are my (fun) predictions: 22-8, 3 seed in Big 12 tourney, 5 seed in NCAA, Final 16. Not bad?? Am I aiming too low?

About the KU DVDs: I agree that the "Rock Chalk Championship" is a good, emotional video. I cried when I saw Russell with tears during senior night. We all know he put it all out there every night...I wish him well in the NBA tryouts--he could be an assist-artist like Steve Nash, and I think physically tougher, too...But I digress--The CBSsports Championship video I have not seen, but can pass along "ditto" from many people who said the UNC game skips every 10pts, which is a shame, to see a team of no-namers+Mr. Rush totally handle those ACC/espn darlings Tarheels. BOTH videos being sold in Dillons stores across kansas in their own cardboard display. Some else posted pursuing getting your own 'copy' of the UNC and/or Memphis games by alternative sources: I know a few people who for their own viewing enjoyment, have downloaded their dvr-recorded games onto DVD-R or DVD-RW, for simply more convenient storage of that program. Believe me it is possible, from what I have heard... :D

For the complete UNC game, I think we just need to wait. NCAA on Demand sells most complete NCAA tournament games for about $20 each, but they still don't have the 2008 games available. I'm not sure how long it takes them to produce them, but the 2007 games are the latest ones available.http://www.ncaaondemand.com/
