I just rewatched the final four game v. UNC tonight. Rush, while he had his off moments, is just one fantastic player. While putting up 25 he picked up 7 boards (most of them tough) and played outstanding d. that kid has a lot coming to him in the league.

Not that he doesn't obviously have offensive skills, but I believe it will be Rush's D that gets him the recognition at the next level.

I really thought he came on in the tournament in getting to the basket with some moves I hadn't seen in his entire career at KU.

Don't play D in the NBA!? Have you been watching the playoffs? If so, tell me how teams are winning by barely scoring 80 points.

keithmiles05-I guess you have never watched S Antonio play. Bowen and Duncan are relentless defensively. Boston plays great defense as does Detroit.

MOST teams don't play (much) defense in the NBA, but the top 5 or 6 really do.

keithmiles05 - they don't play defense in Denver... but scouts value defensive skills a lot more these days.

Yes, I hate to keep piling on the criticism, but can look no further but at Boston and former 'Hawk Paul Pierce, who has been receiving numerous compliments on his defense from the announcers on both LeBron James as well as Tashawn? Prince in the Conference Finals. We will now see how he does in the Finals trying to lock down on Odom and win his first NBA title. So please refrain from putting your foot in your mouth when saying the NBA doesn't play defense.

Here's the skinny on defense in the NBA...Of COURSE guys play defense in the NBA! The truth is, however, MOST of them don't play it with a lot of intensity. The average player will tell you they got after it more in college than in the pros. As with many other things, the truth is somewhere in the middle (of the arguments being made on both sides in these posts).

People still badmouthing the NBA and all it stands for haven't watched a game over the past couple years. The NBA is MUCH improved fundamentally than it was just 5 to 10 years ago.

I wouldnt badmouth the NBA, just rather say I prefer the 'intensity' of the college game better. It is clear, due to the long 80game NBA season, that it must be played at a different intensity compared to what great, intense games we are seeing in the NBA playoffs. Frankly, this playoff intensity is what makes such standout performances by Pierce and other star players that much more memorable. It is what made Michael Jordan a legend. Heck, watching the Detroit/Celtics games and seeing the concept of team and individual defense got a half-smile out of me. But make no mistake: it cannot compare to the huge grin and pride I got watching the 07-08 KU team play that smothering defense we all saw--and to see that concept get it's justified reward! So special, that nothing compares.

That's why Rush is projected after the lottery, to a playoff team that has scorers and needs someone that can play lockdown defense and also score when left uncovered (Bowen and Prince are the best examples).

What?! Bowen as an example for Rush. Bowen can only dream to be half as good as Rush offensively. And, Rush will turn out to be better than Bowen defensively.
