Tuesday morning, at Kansas City’s Marriott Downtown, the Kansas University football team arrived at its annual meeting with the Big 12 media in a way it never had before: as the main attraction.

Two of the Big 12 Conference’s three new head football coaches took their turn at the podium Monday, selling themselves and their programs to the masses at Media Days. One man replaces an NFL coach who failed miserably in college. The other returns to the college game after a long stay in the NFL.

Missouri talks about taking 'next step'

With his 2008 Cotton Bowl Championship ring displayed prominently on his right hand, Missouri University sophomore Jeremy Maclin sat tall and laughed with reporters. Down the hall to his right, senior quarterback Chase Daniel tossed his moxie onto media members who lined up eight deep to get a piece of the MU quarterback, some with more success than many of the tacklers Daniel danced around a season ago.

Woodling: Woodling: Kivisto rallied before

These are tough times for Tom Kivisto, and that saddens me because Kivisto fills a unique niche in Kansas University athletics. Kivisto is the only KU athlete in my memory who was booed repeatedly on the basketball floor, yet years later donated millions of dollars to his alma mater. Kivisto, who was removed last week as president and CEO of his Tulsa-based energy company, came to KU as a highly touted point guard out of a suburban Chicago high school.

Kansas to hold weight-room sale

Kansas Athletics will hold a weight-room sale every Wednesday from July 30-Aug. 20 at the Anderson Family Strength and Conditioning Center.
